I think your strategy is definitely good for the early levels, waiting to level up to have enough money for the new machines. The machines are costly and it is best to save up enough to buy them when you have levelled up.

just to point out for the original post: the truck orders involve two different achievements:

Beep Beep 1-3: awards 6 diamonds total for sending away total number of trucks (no time limit)

Turbo Trucker 1-3 which KwonChu mentioned: You must send these orders within 30 minutes. The counter starts over to 0 for number one, two, and three so they are not added to each other.
