Upgrading and .5 bases

Question? I have been reading so much about 8.5 and 9.5 bases, but was wondering.....Is it possible to upgrade TH to 9 and add the new artillery to farm base but not add to war base until stronger. Example: I am new TH 9 and do get my xbows, but never add to my war base, until I have upgraded troop and xbow. Will this still pull a lower base in war search? Anyone know or tried?

Nope, war algorithm takes into consideration your farm base

Even if you dont add the new defenses to your war base you will still be weighted as if they were placed. So to answer your question, no.
