Getting Your Clan Out of Clash

Hopefully I haven't been bogging the forum down too much with my threads, but you guys have been really helpful so far in getting me some good ideas and therefore more questions/topics I'd like some input on as I continue making tweaks to my own clan. Plus, hopefully there will be others with similar questions that could benefit from having a discussion to look over.

So my question is this: How do you get your clan out of clash? After reading a number of posts here I've decided to try out Band and to set up a website for the clan. I announced that we're using Band as an outside IM service for the clan, but I'm not sure the best way to get people using it. I don't want to make it a requirement for my clan, but I can definitely see the benefit and so I want to encourage members to use these outside services to help our clan improve. Any thoughts on how I can get other clan members to use outside apps and websites without making it a clan requirement? Thanks!

Just ask them weather or not they want to sign up. May as well try with them.

Just say 'So who is interested in joining our Band chatroom?' If they say no, they say no, hard luck. No harm in trying, mate.

For new members, put it in as part of your rules not as a rule but as a suggestion. I set out the rules for new members then I finish off by telling them that we use an outside app for clan and family chat for which I encourage them to sign up and use. Most do.

For existing members, send out several clanmails and talk individually to your Cos and elders as it is important for your core membership to use. When people see that there have been discussions going on in a group chat, they tend to want to get in themselves. Some don't care so let them be.

Scott - That sounds about like what I've done so far. Got one member signed up--waiting for more to come.

Sean007 - The point strategically is coordinating war attacks and making sure in instances where people need a request filled quickly (e.g. - for war, but for one reason or another they don't have much time to play for a specific war). The point generally is to get people talking more and build up our clan's social ties so we can have a better experience in the clan generally speaking.

CalicoTora - First, background: My "clan" is technically two--a main clan where the core members are and a feeder for new members to join in (with a few core members there for support). I'm currently testing the idea within the main clan only to see if it gains any traction. So I'll definitely try to inform incoming members about it, but that's a good idea about sending another few messages. I guess my only concern with that is not bombarding people so they feel badgered, but I know it'll take some reminding as I haven't even gotten my irl friend in the clan to join and I've been bugging him about it quite a bit the past few days.

Lett, I know you run a war clan, and as a fellow war clan leader I feel that having an out-of-game communication app is essential and should be a requirement for all clan members. In other types of clans its not as needed, but in a war clan organisation and communication are much more important. When we implemented our out of game chat nobody quit because of it either, everybody downloaded and uses it, and they are all glad that we decided to get one too.

Having half the people in the clan inside the app and half not is a nightmare sometimes, which you will find out quickly enough, and is the worst solution imo. You either have a required communication app, or you don't use one.

I may eventually get to that point, Wiliest, though if so then I'll likely do it in stages, starting out by having it as a suggestion to try and get the ball rolling, then requiring it for co-leaders before rolling it out to the entire clan. I'll consider it though! :)
