Exact shape of Earthquake area of effect?

I believe that the radius is 4 (please correct me if I'm wrong). On the diagonal of CoC's square grid layout, the math says that's 2.83, which could/should mean 3 squares are affected. If you're trying to place the EQ spell precisely, to hit multiple walls into multiple compartments, it's important to know specifics. For instance, is the center of the spell based on a square or on the intersection of the grid lines?

This gets too complicated and boring for the vast majority of gamers. The easiest solution would be a map showing the center point where the spell is dropped and showing the tiles affected by the spell.

If it says its effect is 8 tiles....then it effects 8 tiles from where you drop it....so 4 tiles every direction (360 degrees). I hope this helps, if not search for Euclid on Wikipedia.

Don't think that's quite right. Game mechanics seem to be you can only target a tile (can't target right between tiles) so it affects the target tile + how large a radius? Taking a common situation, a wall/canon/wall, will targeting the wall on one side take out the wall on the other side? I don't think so, but maybe I've just botched it when trying. Interested in hearing if anyone's made this work / has been able to place between tiles.

I have done extensive testing over the last few weeks in pekkas playhouse.

Yes, the biggest area is 8 tiles.

The question becomes, when I drop the EQ on a tile, which direction goes how many tiles?

The answer is this:

Pick a tile to drop EQ on and you will have the tiles line up to make a solid tile radius @ NW, NE, SE and SW

The area will affect 3 wall segments both SE and SW from the drop point and 4 tiles NE and NW of the drop point.

Feel free to test it yourself.

I always look at inner ring of mortar. Gives u perfect radius of how ur eq should land/hit.

This makes sense because I've been confused by it.

A typical situation is wall/defensive building/wall/defensive building/wall which gives u 1+3+1+3+1=9 tiles. I've heard that the range is 7 tiles, ie you hit it on the "1" in the middle, the line of walls, it should only go 3 tiles up and down and not touch any of the utter or inner walls. But I raid with EQs at least 10 times per day for several months now, and sometimes you get a bigger hole than 7 tiles.

Very interesting, I'll try it later today. Very plausible to me, squares the circle between "cannot place in between tiles" and "8 tile diameter".

I guess the final point would be that the dead center of the circle appears to be the N point of the tile you drop it on.
