Is the game getting too complicated?

Let's consider a (certainly non-exhaustive) set of rules/facts about the game, including some out of the announced upcoming update:

-Giant bombs do some damage, except they do 50% more damage on hogs.
-Minions do not trigger seeking air mines (the black ones), but they do trigger air bombs (the red ones).
-Teslas do some damage, but they do extra damage to PEKKAs, which in fact is their favorite target: as soon as a tesla senses a PEKKA in its range, it will drop its current target and target it instead.
-Healing spells have a reduced effect on heroes.
-The lava hound will no longer be hitting air targets... but what about the lava pups? Will they be hitting air targets?
-The trigger radius of a tesla is smaller than its hitting range.

Special cases and exceptions; this seems to be the way CoC is now going. I suggest that gameplay be simplified, before it becomes way too complicated. Some specific suggestions:

-Minions trigger seeking air mines as well.
-Teslas no longer favor PEKKAs as targets and no longer do extra damage to them.
-Healing spells have the same effect on heroes as on any other troop.

A Tesla will not drop another troop to target PEKKA's though if there is a PEKKA in it's range it will prioritise it over other targets.

These are all small ways that SC has used to balance the game. It is a strategy game, and players who are smart notice these

if giant bombs didn't do extra damage to Hogs, TH8 warring will be as easy as TH7:facepalm:

Consider most of those are written ingame, I don't see how it can be complicated

-I'd rather not spend the re-arm cost for it just to kill one minion
-This way GoWiPe would be too strong
-They have already the ability to gain or preserve some health
-I don't see much of a difference
-To me it's ok the way it is now

On topic : they are perfectly balanced

I agree, but when they didn't do extra damage, defenses also had less hp's, heroes could be lured to a corner and dealt with, and there were no skeleton traps.

In war it is difficult from TH8 up to 3 star an advanced base at your level, that's the way it should be. This is a very well balanced game currently with TH9 the most fun to war at.

The game needs to be complicated because to master it is supposed to literally take years. When you compare this to a sophisticated RPG like Skyrim or Fallout it is child's play but to hold peoples interest for as long as this game has to, to survive, it needs to challenge people and continue to evolve....ticks both boxes for me..:smirk:

Had this discussion with some clan mates yesterday and we overall agreed that there was a balanced number of costum mechanics within troops and defenses.

I personally think there should be more, more mechanics equals more strategies and something else to master and know.

If you are a kid who wants simples games well... I dont play hayday but it seems simple enough for kids to enjoy.

I find a large part of the answers above offensive and reportable. The purpose of this forum is the exchange of ideas, and anything we write herein should aim to make the game better. Insults certainly do not improve the game and discourage players from speaking their mind.

To those who did consider my ideas and replied in earnest: even though we disagree, I certainly value and respect your opinion.

Hmm. The originator of this discussion has a point.
this game is way too complicated, I also find tying my own shoes difficult - but my mummy will do it for me as doing it twice is just so hard AND boring.
i find eating with a knife and fork too difficult and complicated too... But my mummy bought me a nice spoon and bib...

i I hear the App Store even has a section called - easy to win games.. Why not try your hand at an easy game. Maybe where it's not complicated. I don't know. Try a driving game, or I hear there's a simulated farming game... You could pretend it's clash farming if you write clash of clan on your screen using crayon....

I for one do not think the game is too complicated. Everything the game has to offer, its little knicks and knacks, are learned at differect stages of the game.

1. Giant bomb damage is learned at th7/8 when a player starts playing with hog riders. Maybe th6 even if the player uses hog riders in their cc.

2. Minions triggering particular air traps is learned at th7/8 when a player starts using them in loonion/bam raids.

3. Teslas damage to pekkas is learned when a player starts using gowipe in mid/late th8. Also teslas range/trigger radius.

4. The healing spell being not so effective on heroes is learned at th7.

5. Lava hound behavior is learned at th9.


If a player spends an appropriate amount of time at each town hall level then no part of the game will become complicated or hard. If a player goes from town hall 1 straight to town hall 10, then they're going to have a frustrating time learning everything the game has to offer.

I love Skyrim and Fallout, but I wouldn't put them as examples as complexity. You can literally mash one button in Skyrim to ♥♥♥♥ n slash through everything, and every quest is basically follow the arrow and kill everyone there. Fallout is similar, but a second button is handy.

Clash actually takes a little thought. Sure, it's not rocket science, but you can't play it as a button smasher and win.

It does Bethesda a massive disservice to claim those games are point and mash. Yes you can fly through them doing that and miss a massive amount of the game-play, skills, upgrades, character development etc.. Same with Fallout..Clash is perfectly balanced in my view....I guess we broadly agree actually so I'll get the round in...peanuts?

Some could argue Skyrim and Fallout have been simplified down to cater to the lowest common denominator.

Haha, you sound like my brother. I had full completion on Skyrim except for the stuff that was bugged (console). I skip those boring dialogs and cut scenes too. :D

OP: I'm not a natural at strategy, so I agree that for some of us it is challenging to deal with the pace of changes. I do see the need for the changes, however, and find it fun learning how to implement new strategies. Thus the reason I visit the forums so often, haha.

I wouldn't say it is too complicated, but I would say some mechanics aren't made very clear. Heroes being healed for only half is definitely something I have had to tell people in the past. Also pekkas being prioritized, but not switched to. I assume a lot of the things I know are because I frequent the forums.

so is Hay Day. I quit after my cows run away. No milk for barn. To make butter. Combine with wheat. Make cookies. Then to the pie oven + bla bla bla ... :rolleyes: I didn't know "farming" is that hard.

yea its a bit complicated sc should also fix all in the list and make hogs,giants,gobs,lavahound,and golem just attack the nearest building instead of making them target a certain i mean after all its too hard to read in game.
