Try reconnect Facebook and/or Google Play
In Settings.
Yes, I'm having the same problem with my GC friends not showing up. I log out & back in, nothing.
Please make sure you are logged in to Game Center and/or Facebook from your device. Check out our support pages for help how to make sure: http://supr.cl/HayDaySupport
Sometimes it just breaks up the connection, and you have to reconnect them.
