Townhall 9.5 Questions

Hey all, I have been hanging out at TH 9 for about 8 months making sure I got all my research done and most of my walls to lvl 9. I pushed go on TH 10 finally last week and I'm a couple days out. I will be the only TH 10 in my clan and I don't want to mess up our war matchups unnecessarily. So I have been reading about TH 9.5. Seems like a great plan for now. There doesn't seem to be a very good guide for it I have found. A few videos and quick writeups only. If anyone has some good resources they can post that would be great.

Now obviously you don't want to get your Infernos or the 3rd Xbow. That is very consistent in all the things I have read.

There also seems to be agreement that you can go ahead with all your traps and upgrade them.

The question I have is around your new archer tower and cannon and existing upgrading defenses to TH levels.

I am planning on not placing my lvl 1 Archer Tower or Cannon but I'm unsure whether I could upgrade the existing ones to TH 10 levels. How much will this impact match making? I figure getting all my traps to TH 10 level will take me a while anyway so the pressure is not there. Do people have some real world experiences they can share or info on this part of the defensive upgrading of TH 9.5?

At some point you will start rarely, then occasionally, and finally regularly pulling a TH10 with infernos. For a while your base will round down to max TH9, but once you've accumulated enough offensive upgrades it will roundup new TH10 with infernos.

Once this happens you should also build infernos ASAP as otherwise you are costing your clan a star (you only 2 them vs they 3 you). Since you're the top base on the map, it's obvious when this happens. You'll have to determine what frequency of losing a potential star justifies the infernos.

Note that if your clan doesn't regularly 2 star the top few opponents right now, you're not actually giving up a star, so delaying infernos is still suggested until it starts making a difference. (they're pretty heavy defensively and doing so will upgrade the opponent also, worth it if it saves a star, not worth it if it doesn't) The time to build them in this case is when you start being 3 starred too often for comfort in close matches. If they're blowing you away, it's probably better to keep defenses lower, but if it's close it will probably decrease their score by a star.

I just went to 10 as well and I was a maxed TH9 except l didn't
have all my lavas and my heros were 20/25

I built lab, spell factory and clan castle (still going) as well as gold mine
elixer pump and DE drill. I did add the archer tower and cannon.

I'll bring all these up to TH 9 levels before I add the 3rd x bow or infernos (or new traps)

I have been 9.2 for a month or so now, and have to say the concept doesn't work anymore.

In theory adndweight you are still TH9, but in war you will see many rushed THs with infernos designed to beat the weight system.

To one up the system, or to keep pace, skip most of your TH9 D to pair with infernos when you get there.

I'm currently not getting 3 starred in wars ever. 1 or 2 depending on the war. I do see what you are saying that at some point if I start getting 3'd as a TH 9.5 then it's not helping in the war and I should add the defenses to hold them off at 2 or less.

I'm curious about the comment that it's not really working for matching these days as well as it used to. Has supercell fixed this loophole somehow?

My main question is really what to do with my new archer tower and cannon. Leave them or build them? What would impact the matching more? A lvl 12-13 Archer tower or a new Archer tower at lvl 4 or 5. Hard to know I guess exactly.

I think I will stick to not building the Archer Tower and Cannon and will focus on Traps and bumping up some of my existing defenses. If I can match with clans with solid TH9s and maybe the odd rushed TH10 I think it will be okay. I will at least have Freeze spells to better deal with Infernos if I come across them in wars.

you are answering your own question. if you aren't getting three starred now, don't build anything else new until you start to get three starred consistently. If you get a bad draw, you can always rent a pair of infernos for the war, if you have gold to spare

Focus on heros and offense, so you can beast the opponents top guys. Spells, camps, cc, troops, heros.

Hope you saved a ton of elix...

A really well designed anti 3*** th9 is hard for th10s. As the highest th9 in my clan I always expect a loser GoWiPe army from the opposing th10 players. So far I have never been 3***d. As I have higher heros than most th10 players i have been pitted against K21/Q25 I put my queen behind a wall next to the CC with angels in it and she never dies. It almost makes me want to put the TH more towards the center and see if it could even be an anti 2** base. Angels in the CC help me more than any other troop like Dragons that just seem to disappear under a poison/rage combo

If you work on lvl11 walls, build IT's. If you're not working on lvl11 walls, you,re rushed and might as well stay at 9.5. If the latter, upgrade all offensive buildings (spell fac, camps, cc, heroes) plus traps, no defense buildings. Best of luck

So far I did the trap upgrades and left the archer and cannon alone. I hit go on one camp, spell, lab and clan castle so far. Then the update happened and I had to consider the new walls. In the end I decided to build them. I understand walls don't factor in that huge in war matchups so I have built them to lvl 7 so far.

First war we matched on the weekend with no TH 10s in the opposing clan. Starting another war tonight, will let you know if we stay matched with no TH10s. I'm hoping at worst we get a rushed TH10 which now that I have Freeze I should have no trouble 2 starring.
