Does anyone else think this updated soup kitchen does not fit in and looks awful?
It looks like it was yanked out of a barbie doll house. YUCH. The old one had a rustic feel that fit right in on the farm. This thing sticks out like a sore thumb.
otoh, the pasta kitchen looks like they downsized it.
I think it looks awesome!
I do happen to be very fond of turquoise.
I have noticed that it seems to make it harder to see when your soup is ready though.
I love it too! I think its pretty cute ;)
I preferred the original soup kitchen because it looked vintage and homey. Now I need to find a hiding place for this new one because it does not look on my farm like it belongs.
Haven't a clue what may have prompted the change, but from one who prefers the original rustic looking one I hope this doesn't portend future upgrades to other machines as well.
IMO part of the HD charm was the look which evoked childhood memories of the love, affection, & incredible food that centered around Great Gran's kitchen which was dominated by a gigantic iron stove, pie safe, flour box, sideboard & the like.
I guess I'm becoming an old dinosaur, but as much as I like my modern conveniences, I don't want or need kitchen fixtures which coordinate with my nail polish...in real life or my HD game. Guess this machine will go into hiding now too.
Ladyj, im with you. The new kitchen is cute, but the older one was quaint and my preference. This one is to cartoony.
Where has the table gone from the Pasta Kitchen? I want my table and purple tablecloth back!! I worked hard for that starred tablecloth and Fred and Hilda looked oh-so-cute having their romantic dinner. Why, oh why was that changed? And as for the soup kitchen, the new visual sucks. Why do SC insist on fixing things that aren't broke?
Sad to say that I did not realise it had changed...... Note to self..... Pay more attention! :) Now I've seen it I'm disappointed that my achievement star appears to be missing.
I've planted a few trees around the new soup kitchen to partially hide it! Hope they are not going to change the old machines one by one to the new Barbie look, or (and this would be so cool) give people a choice between the 2 models.
I'm another that loved the old soup kitchen and hate the new one  the poster who said it was like something from barbie's house is spot on! I really really really hope we don't get 'upgrades' to all the other lovely rustic machines.
I'm going to have to hide mine in my woods now with the other monstrosities like the candle maker, smoothie maker and candy machine.
I want my old soup kitchen back :(
For those who have played The Sims it looks like it would match the kiddie oven perfectly.
I HATE it! It doesn't fit with the style of the other cooking machines at all, what on earth possessed them to redesign a single machine to make it stick out like a sore thumb? Ugh.
Another member of new soup kitchen hate club. It really is Barbie-like and from far it reminds me of sewing machine. Hidding machines behind trees suddenly seems like a great idea.
Hay day is broken for me, anyone care to post a picture? I'm curious.
I like the new look.
Here it is, new one vs. old one
Attachment 135742Attachment 135743
I'm with all of you that thinks it looks like barbies playhouse stove..lol. I hid mine partially behind a few cherry trees like I did my hatmaker. Are there more kids playing this game than I realize? I find it to be mostly played by adults but I could be wrong.
Glad this thread isn't overrun with "why all the negative posts..yada..yada" *rolls eyes* We all should be able to express our opinions good or bad without being called out on it.
WHY ALL THE NEGATIVE POSTS, YADDA YADDA?!?
Just kidding!
I, too, disapprove of the new Soup Kitchen. It does not fit in with most of the other machines. I liked the rustic, quaint style of the original design. Not sure why they chose a redesign of this machine in particular, as well...? If anything, change the darn UFO! lol.
*Gasp* I was so fixated on the way SC has wrecked my Pasta Kitchen, I didn't realise my table and tablecloth were missing from the soup kitchen as well! Please! Bring them back!

I think it has a very fun retro 50's feel.
Boy am I glad I'm not related to some of you folks. Do you all treat everybody who gives you something like this?
Them : Here mom. I spent all week at school making you this new updated thing-a- ma-bob. The teacher said it was the best one she ever saw. I hope you like it
You all: oh my it's absolutely awful. I hate it. Why did you make it that color, it looks like it fell off a Barbie dream house truck.
I'm not saying we have to love everything, but put yourself in the shoes of the poor graphics guy who made this for us. Great way to smack him/her around! I am ashamed of so many of you (not all. Some of you have been very gracious) but have a heart!
Geez
Well, I love the new horse, Tiggs, but it has been overshadowed by "the poor graphics guy" fixing things that weren't broke in the first place.
Didn't they get the message with the whole brouhaha over Tom? Don't fix things that aren't broke!
I like the animations of the new soup kitchen but I must admit I preferred the grey scale, old color scheme of the soup kitchen. Was there a reason it was updated or did they just think people wanted it to look different?
Tigg... this ain't my kid. It's a game I spend money on. Graphics guy gets a paycheck, not mother's love. For the record, I'm not a fan of anything in this update.
I preferred the old soup kitchen. One of my favorite machines.
And I m sorry I bought the new white horses. They attack my other horses.
I love the autumn theme, though, if you want to hear something positive.
Fine. But the guy who fixes the bugs isn't the same guy who draws the designs and both are human beings. They both deserve more respect than they are being given. For the most part none of us playing all the time have the skills to do what these guys do. There is still no excuse to be mean. Period.
Tigg and her daughter Katie
I would like to join the "I don't care for the redesign of the soup kitchen" club, which includes membership in the "where's the table and chairs for the pasta kitchen" club.
I was pretty surprised (and this time, it wasn't a good surprise) to see the new soup kitchen. Like others have mentioned, the old design had a rustic, homey feel that fit right in with the other kitchen production machines. I didn't realize the table and chairs were missing from the pasta kitchen until someone in my NH mentioned it, and though it doesn't provide the extreme change of the soup kitchen, I prefer the eating space.
This isn't the first time SC has redesigned a machine, but the last time was a good bit before I began playing a little over 2 years ago. I saw pics of those old machines and those changes were great. This one, not so much.
Would really love to know the thought behind this change when there were/are so many other things that could have been a better use of their focus and talents.
I loved seeing my gnomes sharing a pasta dish. Now the lasagna is hanging in midair between them. No table. No chairs. Plus that soup kitchen is a horror show. Please lets get the 8 year old girl designer out of the design room pronto. Give her a Barbie house and leave my farm machines alone for Petes sake.
Tigg: Sorry, not in the mood to be gracious about this change. Why not clean the juicer up? Its gross. Why mess with a perfectly respectable soup kitchen is what I would like to know.
Pretty much all my machines were hidden anyway, lol.
I much preferred the old style look of the original and will be hiding it with trees,
It's like telling someone they have spinach stuck in between their teeth. Telling the truth as you see it is almost less cruel than letting them go forth and gross out the world with their dental "decor."
I preferred my old soup kitchen. I loved the way everything moved and worked. Although the flames on this new one are rather enjoyable.
It's cute but I preferred the old one too. The new soup kitchen sort of favors the style/design of the hatmaker to me.
Mine was already behind the trees...I'll have to pull it out and look closely, lol.
I kind of like the look of the new soup kitchen, but prefer the old one. The original went well with the cake oven and popcorn maker, where they all have the same iron stove look. And I liked that I could overlap the soup and popcorn machines and make it look like one long stovetop. Oh well, I'll get used to it.
Very disappointed in the redesign, which is not to my personal taste at all. I wonder if the game is headed toward attempting to have more appeal to younger players? Although toddler toy and Barbie dream house are certainly spot-on descriptions IMO, it is part of a game full of goofy whimsy and I will likely just follow others' lead and hide it if it annoys me too greatly.
Tigg -- you and I have been friends for a long time and I respect you. But I think this post unfairly personally attacks those who don't like the new soup kitchen redesign with an insult, followed by a gut-punch gotcha analogy that really does not apply.
Is deliberate, soul-destroying cruelty from a parent towards a young child really equal to impersonal opinions and observations that the new soup kitchen clashes with the overall rustic design of the farm machinery? REALLY?
This new soup kitchen is fun and retro 50s cool, and would be absolutely darling and perfect in the diner in the town. It would also look great in a restaurant game.
BUT -- On the farm, along the dirt road, outside, with the cow pens and the creaky grill and the old-timely ovens, it just looks strange.
As a professional graphic designer, the person who drew this up would know that already. We're not telling him/her anything s/he doesn't know in their art-hearts.
And there is no need to be ashamed of me -- I have done nothing shameful.
ok, lets cool it guys. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, lets respect that.
Also, lets remember to be constructive about the criticism we give. The developers would hardly do something just to annoy you, how would that benefit anyone?
Then why did they do it, Tink? It is obviously an unpopular change. Can we expect more of the same in the next update?
soup kitchen rules! 50s style oven is a perfect fit! feel free to update some of the other stalls :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
People always complain about something xD What is fine lol. I love the new design and colors. Keep it up:thumbsup:
Part of what folks love about HD is the high standards of the graphics and look of the elements. The machines (except the candy maker and hatmaker) look like they belong on a working farm that would have a 1930s delivery truck, a steam-powered riverboat, and a steam train.
So how does the new space-ages soup kitchen fit the RUSTIC FARM design of the rest of the machines (hat maker and candy maker aside)? That soup kitchen would be perfect inside the diner, but on a working farm, with antique ovens and rustic machines, it needs to fit into THAT environment. The old soup kitchen did.
I think the hatmaker needs a rustic makeover too -- it also looks like an indoor machine, not a thing that belongs outside on a working farm.
When my sister introduced me to the game I would spend ages zooming in close to her farm and would smile at the charm of the machines.
I agree that the soup kitchen, hat maker and candy machine, although cute in their own way (though not to my taste), do not fit the existing style.
I wouldn't assume that just because it seems unpopular on this forum does not mean it is not liked by the many many people who play the game.
If you're as old as I am you may remember a time when real life home appliances in pink, turquoise blue, sunshine yellow and avocado green were hugely popular. Washers, dryers, stoves, refrigerators.
I bought my KitchenAide mixer in turquoise blue because I loved the retro look of it.
And if you have actually had to cook on a black wood stove for years as I have, a little colour is always a plus.
Anyway, there is no accounting for taste or esthetics. What some people like others do not.
Just because you don't happen to like the look of something it isn't fair to criticize the designers.
I liked it the other one was similar to one of the ovens
Ugly, same as the hat maker, the candle maker and the sewing machine. I have them hidden.
Let's not forget the smoothie machine! Add it to the "doesn't fit the original design" list. And please SC, give our old soup kitchen and pasta table back! And if you feel the need to redesign machines, how about having a go at the smoothie, sewing, hat, etc machines? PLEASE!!! Make them fit in with the charming original style that drew so many of us into your game.
There is a precedent for redesigning machines. Somewhere there is a picture of the jam maker before it got a makeover. The original one fit in with the rustic overall feel of the farm. The jam maker was the first machine I hid behind trees. It has since been joined by hats, candy, smoothies and candles.
As someone said, the new soup kitchen with the skull-face white drawers would fit into the town. However, not on my farm. It was one of my favorites. Very sad.
It is interesting that there are farmers who like it. I suspect that means we can expect to see our farms slowly evolve in that direction.
Excuse me, but I did not criticise the designers, I merely said I wanted my tables and tablecloths back. OK I said the new soup kitchen design sucks, but I was VERY disappointed to lose my pasta kitchen table. It destroyed my whole aesthetics. How is it not legitimate to provide feedback, positive or negative - not that SC takes any notice of what we say? Is not the forum a microcosm of all players, or are the people on the forum a breed apart who think differently from all other HD players? There's a pretty good chance that it is a fairly representative sample of all players.
Another vote to have the old soup kitchen back please and a 'rustic' makeover for the other Barbie inspired machinery (sewing machine, candle maker, candy machine etc). It's a farm not Barbie World.
If SC graphic artists are redesigning all the rustic farm machines to look like they belong in a diner, instead of on a farm, here's my suggestion for the new cake oven:

We need a new Dairy, like this real old Braums store from Oklahoma City -- except the building should be in teal and hot pink and yellow. With sparkles and flowers and neon fireworks -- in other words, appropriate to a space-age Googie farm.
http://i.imgur.com/PZwwFbV.jpg
And new cows to go with the new dairy:
http://i.imgur.com/sVFuMJi.jpg
and new pigs too --
http://i.imgur.com/gKLv0Hl.jpg
Suuuuuure, these new things don't really match stylistically, and they don't go together in a harmonious vision, but we are OBVIOUSLY not doing THAT anymore.
What are YOUR suggestions for what should be the next redesign away from something that looks like it actually might belong on a farm?
Here's my suggestion for the next new town building -- its sleek modern design will contrast sharply with the homey cute and visually descriptive nature of the existing town buildings, begging the existential question, "WHYYYYYYYY am I here???? What is my purpose?? Why am I putting THIS thing HERE????"

Better than that old fishing hut that we see at every private lake in the world, right? Something nice for Angus :) (the old fisherman)
What is it? Who knows.
Does it fit with the rustic fish camp theme? Who cares?
Can the ducks use it too? Don't be quackers.

Oh, the wonders we conceive when we free ourselves from the straitjackets of coherent visions and you know, visual environment planning and design :)

I saw this and literally spat Pepsi through my nose all over the floor! I'm sending you my cleaning bill, Perky, bless your little agitating Texan heart!
Now get back on your meds, & quit giving SC any more fuel for future makeover fires! ;););) Don't make me have to draw that line in the sand!;);)
Sorry about your floor, Jem but that's what you get when you drink Pepsi. Disgusting stuff.
And why does it have to be "a line in the sand," Jem? Why do we have to confine ourselves to these old ways of thinking and doing, even if they make sense, visually and thematically and even metaphorically.
why can't we do this instead????
http://i.imgur.com/vrHQf6J.jpg
Don't make me draw a bull in the kitchen -- we have had a souper amount of kitchen bull today, I think, already.
Why should we accept a belching old creaky steam train in town, when we can have something new and (allegedly) spiffy just for the sake of having something new and (allegedly) spiffy, whether it enhances the game or not.

You crack me up! Just too many new-fangled contraptions for this old fogey, I reckon. Just call me a dinosaur, & speaking of dinosaurs, I understand art is in the eye of the beholder, but that Picasso more resembled Barney at a reading desk more than a kitchen bull....
OMG! Was that a subliminal way of getting me to endorse purple as a new color for the sushi bar? You clever boots, you! ;);) If you hear kicking & screaming, it's probably just an old triceratops somewhere!
I like the newly-designed soup kitchen because the previous version looks too much like the popcorn machine, IMO.
Thank you game designers for the new, shiny soup kitchen.
If you missed the previous version, check out the link below.

Perky, thanks for making me laugh! It's the first time I've laughed over HayDay for several days.
Now to get back on track and start to enjoy farming again...
I prefer the new one. I always felt like when they made the soup kitchen they couldn't be bothered to come up with any ideas, so they just re-used the popcorn maker and threw a pot on it. This looks like they spent some time on it.
I have mixed feelings. I loved the cast iron look of the old soup kitchen, and enjoyed the animation.
I love, love, love the animation on this one. The gas flames are too cool, and I like seeing inside the pot as the lid lifts. The pot is cute, too.
I miss the understated cast iron, very much, and am concerned about what this might portend for the other nice pieces; but I am grateful to find something really nice to enjoy about Soup Kitchen version 2.

Sparkly, I just saw your post. I've been eyeing that turquoise Kitchen Aide mixer with wistful longing. Congratulations! I'll bet you love it!:caticon:
You made me laugh when you mentioned Avocado Green appliances! My first 3 apartments were loaded with Avocado green. The last one even added Avocado green wall-to-wall carpeting and throw-up Avocado green bathroom sinks, toilets and bathtubs. Turquoise I love. Avocado Green? I'd run screaming for the hills:saywhat::D!

Glade, I'm so sorry Fred and Hilda lost their romantic table for two! Your picture, with little Freda looking for a treat, is among my favorite HD pictures. That one is worthy of framing. :D:caticon::heart:
Then again i will cast your attention on the new washing machine you can buy now. Very old school :)
On one hand i love the new kitchen, on the other hand.... And the seat has gone :(
Pasta kitchen seemes changed too.
The cool thing about the seats in the pasta kitchen was that they allowed you to get right up close with other items: the gnomes looked like they were sitting at the table and you could place pavers beneath them so the kitchen looked more integrated into the general landscape. I believe the footprint is still the same, the profile is just smaller. My gnomes now have to stand to eat their pasta.
*Whistles* Guys, over here! We found her! I don't know how she escaped, but now that she's been out, she'll probably put up quite a fight, so don't forget to bring the white jacket...and yes, maybe a sedative, too.
And They're coming to take me away Ha Ha
They're coming to take me away ho ho, he he, ha ha
to the funny farm where life is beautiful all the time, and I'll be happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats
and they're coming to take me away ha ha!
As for you...in the Boys vs. Girls game, you are going down for taking that side...going down, I say!
LOL, we male forumers haven't won in the BvG thread in months and I think the drought will continue.
It's gotten so bad a female forumer is trash-talking on another thread. I would say "Bring it on!" but the female forumers don't need more motivation to beat us like a drum. :)
BTW, see my signature below.
I believe everyone survived the smelter and jam maker designs. I think there was a 12-step recovery program. Hang in there people!
https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5603/...294a8e2a68.jpg
I would really like the table and chairs back on the pasta kitchen. The pasta dishes hang in midair now. Its really strange looking. I'm not a fan at all of the Barbie Dream Kitchen soup maker. It doesnt match anything food production related except the blender. I dont count the candy maker as food. My opinion is all I have. I will still load product in it, pick up my soup and distribute it as needed but I will do it with eyes closed.
Ok, so after the first one, I laughed beacuse it was funny and clever, and echoed my sentiments exactly. Then smallchange's comment with the googly eyes made it even funnier. Anddddd then came the rest and I just lost itXDXDXDXDXDXD!!!!!!! THANK YOU for that! I haven't laughed this hard in monthssssss. Though the ugly monstrosity of a machine will stay behind a tree on my farm, your comments made it all the more bearable for those rare moments when part of it peeks through, or when i accidently move the tree elsewhere lol; not because I'll tolerate more, but because I'll probably be dieing of laughter all over again XD. Seriously, thank you for the free therapy:o. Makes me miss the forums a bit, then again, maybe not so much with all the craziness that's unfolded the last couple of days:saywhat:.
I really hope they read this read; lots of constructive criticism, and I would add to it that aesthetically, this machine "update", along with a few other machines....ahem, the UFO:straightface:, don't fit into the fabric of what makes HD HD, from a design, look, and feel perspective. Yes it's a special place where the crops never wither and the animals don't starve to death, but design team, please, let's not get carried away into an easy bake oven-my little pony-strawberry Shortcake world....:saywhat:.
Anyways, thank you for the awesome comedy:D.
Actually, I like this jam maker design better than the one we now have. I probably would have had the old version out on display, whereas the new one has been hidden behind trees since the day I bought it. My "new" soup kitchen is now also completely hidden behind a glorious stand of red trees.
Still really sad about my pasta kitchen table and chairs.
It is cute and I like turquoise, but I prefer the old rustic one. I cant understand redoing something and us needing new products. Like a taco maker, peaches, avocado, sour cream and such.
You know what would be amazingly cool? If the artists could freely design their hearts out for each machine.
Then the team could pick out their two favorites for each piece of production equipment. So, at greatly-increased memory-storage and computer processing requirements (my apologies SC) they allow us (through a little toggle button) to choose which version of each machine we like the best.
That way, one farm could have all wood and cast iron equipment, another farm could have UFO's and pastels. Farmers could even mix it up, if they wanted to. If they get bored with the look of a machine, they could press the little button and presto-chango, they have a new design.
If the option was free, everyone could customize their farms with freedom and joy (and not have to hide equipment behind trees). If it cost a few diamonds to change, that could help reimburse SC for the additional computer demands.
If this could be done, I'd love this feature!
:D
