Max those de and elixir collectors asap, these basically cover the losses for getting 3 starred every time.
Also make sure you at least get archers in your cc and spread your storages to make sure you get 3 starred with a 16 hour shield and they can't just take your loot with goblins and quit.

It's possible to upgrade all the way to TH10 just by collecting the collectors. No building defenses, no attacking, no buying gems. I have around 50 CoC accounts like that, many have already reached TH10. I did an AMA about it here: www.tiny.cc/ymsbAMA
It's gonna be pointless in my opinion unless you plan to war with it. It's gonna be tough to save elixir for your practice attacks that's for sure.
Better to just use warclans to practice attacks than do this.
It will work, but will also require lots of dedication.
My defenceless village, haven't spent any gems just pushed to champs for the bonus and I been hanging around here also because the loot bonus is good.

It is possible. I have 3 of them. A th10, th8 and a th6. The th10 has 240 camp with max cc already, w/o buying gems.

Yes its possible because i have a th7 account that only has lvl 1 cannon and walls (to clear out unwanted gold) I started un August and last night i started the lvl 2 dragon upgrade. The best way ive found is to plan your raiding time carefully. Pick your loot target and raid like hell before spending it.. use the achievement awards to get the gems for 3rd builder and then spend rest of gems you gain for barracks boosts. Easy barching or in my case i just mass archer attack and use my clan to constant donate me TH10 CC troops (mainly giants or Hogs work well)
I try to log off with as little amount of loot as possible and i wait till close to upgrade end before i do another mad raid session.
I have a defenseless, TH8 about to move to TH9. 4 builders, never been idle. I rarely boost barracks, but barching is essential. If you can rattle off an hour's worth of attacks before logging off you'll never be hurting for loot. The real key is that you can't just log on, raid once, then log off. The loot cap on what can be taken will be your best friend. Also make sure your actual storages are inside your TH, you don't want people just sniping your storages then quitting..or even just giving you a 12 hour shield...you need the 16 hour shield and use it appropriately. Most people will gladly take the 3 stars, so it's not typically an issue.
You also need to be careful about which bases you hit (mostly just collectors) and what trophy level. In an hour of unboosted barracks I can typically clear a million or more of each resource. That's enough that you aren't hurting for loot. I snipe snipe snipe THs, then use half an army on full collectors, then back to sniping as I search...that way I keep my trophy level constant. I rarely use a full army on any raid, just raid the elixir collectors and quit.
