Upgrading walls to level 9 costs twice as much as upgrading walls to level 8. 500k * 250 = 125 million and 1 mil * 250 = 250 mil no matter how you look at it. Not to mention the fact that TH8s only have 225 walls to upgrade, not 250 like TH9s.
You mean to tell me you can't farm at least 500k gold in one session? How many raids does it take you to save up 500k? Seems a bit easier to me than trying to save up 1 mil increments for level 9 walls and 3 mil increments for level 10 walls.
And if TH9 has such a huge advantage over TH8, what's stopping you from upgrading to TH9?
If you're farming 15 mil within a few hours at TH9, what's stopping you from farming 15 mil within a few hours at TH8? Well, TH9s can spend the elixir they farm on walls if they choose, you might say. So what's stopping you from upgrading to TH9 so you can spend 1 mil elixir on a lego for every skull you farm with gold?
Oh, but you want to stay at TH8 to enjoy the special protections that TH8s get from being raided by TH10s (lower matchmaking priority, and a 50% loot penalty for any TH10 that does happen to find you). Or maybe you want to be able to continue raiding those weak TH7s without the 50% loot penalty you'd have against them as a TH9.
There are both pros and cons to either staying at a lower town hall level or moving up. This is the way it should be. You shouldn't be able to have the protections of being a lower town hall while enjoying the benefits of being a higher town hall at the same time at the expense of all the other players higher than you.
And if they did that, you would definitely see the reasons why levels 7 and 8 were removed from being upgraded with elixir. In fact, I'm pretty sure you would be begging them to revert it within the first week of it being implemented.
I can understand why you would want this to make it easier for yourself right now in the present because you weren't a higher town hall level back when elixir for level 7 and 8 walls was possible. You don't have any first-hand experience of the damage it did to the economy. You're also not thinking about the future when you'll be a TH9 and eventually a TH10 and the problems you would experience if this were to happen again. You should be happy that it's not going to happen again, too, so that you'll be able to continue playing the game at higher levels.
