Why are We (Clashers) so negative?

Someone mentioned in another thread that Hay Day just announced Sneek Peeks will be starting soon for their game so I went over to thier News section to check it out even though my farm has been dormant for months.

More interesting to me than the announcement we the reactions from and interactions between their members. They were all....happy and...friendly. The sad thing about it was that this was odd to me.

Where are the synical, snarky comments? Where are the trolls? Why are these people complimenting each other and getting along? This is very strange indeed.

Not to say there aren't friendly, helpful people here, there are, but more often than not they get picked on too for offering help. And I dont claim to be 100% innocent, I acknowledge I have made comments that were less than positive in the past. But what is it about this community vs. That community

Is it just a different breed of gamer that plays Hay Day? Is it that that game is less about competing with other gamers and more about cooperation? Or did I just catch them on a good day and they are as spiteful and synical as we are at times?

COC forum used to be more helpful, friendlier, and constructive. Within the last few months I find it has become much more sarcastic, cynical, spiteful, and negative. I am not sure if it was due to kids on summer break, moderation style, evolution of the forum community as the game matures, or over flow from "elite" war community drama. I miss the old coc forums.

Perhaps many of us are tired after the 200,000th iteration of "OMG FIX MATCHING!" posted by players with invariably rushed clans? It's mainly the same stuff here over and over until there is an update, so I can't imagine why anyone would be chippy about that...

I think you have a point there, but the problem is people take the same chippy attitude and over generalize it to other topics that are totally relevant and are just totally dismissive. For example, I have made suggestions on how to redo trophies offering at high leagues (titan 2+), but these threads invariably gets shouted down by people who have never even been to titan 2 (and thus knows absolutely NOTHING about the topic) and insist everything is working fine ...

Some comments based on a very short stint playing Hay Day quite a while ago, I also haven't spent time over there so it really is guessing

Clash of Clans is a competitive game where as Hay Day is not, you build your farm, buy some auctioned stuff from others and carry on, this has a number of implications with regards to forum posts it removes
-Mismatch complaints
-Most bunny complaints
-Person 1 townhall/20 levels above me crushed me complaints
-Troops going the wrong way complaints

I'm sure there are many more but basically by being competitive people want to win/do well. If they don't win they are often unhappy leading to complaints that get voiced on the forums.

Also not sure on numbers as it doesn't show anymore but Clash has a larger user/forum base and even if there is only 1 jerk/troll for every 100 people those trolls stand out, while most of the 100 you will never notice.

I'd have to agree with this - I just visited the Hay Day forums to that News announcement to see what you were talking about. Here's a couple phrases I saw: "...Can't wait to see what your creative...minds have come up with," and "You're a hoot."

I didn't notice the difference until I visited a couple of threads on the Clash forums and saw comments like "Get a life" and "this idea stinks" (nothing else, just 'this idea stinks').

While I am guilty of being very sarcastic myself, I do agree we should all at least respect each other. And I know I'm going to get flamed for this eventually, but I truly think the forum will be a better place if we're kind to each other :)

I agree and have been trying to be more patient with trolls of late. I'll have to put in more effort and try to remind myself more. I hope more will take the initiative as well.

Here's my two cents:
First off, the games themselves are very different in genre. While Hay Day is a peaceful game where you grow crops and trade with other players, Clash is a game where you raid people's bases. That in itself is a major reason why Hay Dayers tend to be more positive, as their game is more friendly.(NOTE: This is not an insult at Hay Day. Some people like these types of games, some people don't. Same with Clash)
Secondly, there are a lot less people playing Clash than playing Hay Day. When you have more people in a group, the more likely the group will be negative, and the more trolls there will be.
Third, the complexity of the game itself. At its heart, Hay Day is much more simple than Clash(This isn't an insult either, sometimes the best games are simple games) Yes, there is no such thing as a "perfect game" But since Hay Day doesn't require as much material as Clash, it is much closer to said "finished product." When there are less things in a game to worry about, there are a lot of less things for people to complain about. Thus people make more complaint threads in Clash.
And finally, since we Clashers see much more complaint threads than the Hay Day people, we tend to get more annoyed and therefore negative.

TL;DR The genres, number of users, complexity, and complaint threads because of said complexity are the root.

I'm the same way. I don't know how many times lately I've started a reply and thought better of it but other times I have blasted first and regretted it or at least thought I could have responded differently. Trolls will troll but I hope that just by pointing it out it might make some people think twice before posting "toxic" comments. There are ways to get points across without attacking and I think we all, myself included, need to be reminded of this from time to time. Not saying we have to love everyone and sing kumbaya but a b8t more respect can go a long way.

This (and many others similar to it), time and time and time again, are one of the major contributors to my cynicism. It's not an excuse, just a reason.

Hay Day has zero raiding, zero chance of loosing any resources (maybe an occasional misclick when selling), zero issues with their crops or animals misbehaving, and honestly, what in Hay Day is stressful? Meanwhile, back in clash of clan land things are not always so peachy keen.

Can you log onto you hay day farm and see someone just took a thousand quarts of your hard earned milk with no way of defending such an attack? Then when they finally remove such method, the milk thieves complain about getting it back.

There are probably 2 groups here--the people whining about matchups and the people who are just annoyed at the people whining about matchups.

Cause hay days for girls!

Two cents (ok 25 cents) from a relative newbie to forums:

I have only been active on forums for a few weeks (commenting, posting, and even having the odd conversation with really interesting people I never would have imagined I'd be talking to). :smirk:

People on different threads instantly noticed I was new and have been quite patient, informative, helpful, and welcoming. Somehow I have like 27 "friends" and they aren't all just there to add to their numbers, lol. All (or almost all) have replied to conversations or started them, etc.

These people (in my experience) far outweigh the few who seem to be looking for a fight about something, which I am thankful for. Even the goofy back-and-forth on the BvG game thing, seems to be able to remain good-natured fun in spite of how "competitive" we can all be in-game.

I must say that while the toxic ppl are out there (and I now am able to recognize some threads to just stay away from at times), I have found that others generally make it clear (and fast) that that kind of nonsense is unwelcome. I've seen lots of mods and GS around keeping things running smoothly.

Therefore I feel much more comfortable hanging out in the forums when the clan activity is slow. If you asked me about game forums a couple of months ago, I never would have thought of being part of it.

So thanks, y'all. And thanks OP for starting the discussion.

Competition brings out the worst in people. The more competitive a game, the worse the people that it attracts. I had someone show me this game at a party one night and a few days later I found myself bored and foolishly downloaded it without doing proper research. Had I looked into it at all I would have noticed it reeks of PvP play. There is almost no way to play this game without harming another person. That is the worst style of gameplay there can be and it attracts the worst kind of people. I, unfortunately, found myself addicted to it (as often happens to me with video games which is why I had stopped playing them) and haven't been able to give it up even though it has no redeeming qualities. Merely suggesting that they add a way to gather resources without attacking others (and being attacked yourself) is met with scorn on the forums because games like this attract competitive people with negative attitudes.

You just generalized thousands of people in one group, not all clashers are negative, I've had nice talks with other people that both sides respected each others opinions (for example my talk that I never finished with Chitlins37) and was polite to each other, there are plenty of nice people roaming the forums willing to help or have polite discussions with others, it's just where you look to go find them and if your polite to each other.

Of course if you start some drama or participate in some flame war then your going to see lots of negative people, other times post just have a hard time conveying tone and you might misread it with the wrong tone.

What does the Boom Beach sub forum look like? Like people have said, CoC is a warring, competitive game, well Hay Day (HD?) is a more peaceful farming game. And CoC has a bigger community presence, so therefore more negativity will arise. I'm sure if you dig down into HDs forum far enough, you might find some negative things.

Very true, I know there are good, helpful clashers on these forums, and appreciate them. I just found it odd how much more positive the general tone was over there compared to here, then I found it odd (and a bit sad) that I found it odd.

I think a combination of impatience [as updates now tend to take a good 2-3 months] and members tired of the repetition. Inevitably with new members constantly joining many topics will be rehashed time and time again.

We as members just have to try ignore those topics that bring out the negative behavior.

There are still every day some great discussions going on in here.

This is spot on. Genre is different, therefore it attracts a different audience. Hay Day is much more laid back and ''casual'' than Clash, I put that in quotes because there are always obsessive players in every game.

Whole heartedly agree, some of us that are on throughout the day sometimes forget that there are members that don't frequent the forums as often and may not realize some of the same comments pop up daily or that Genetal isnt the place for recruitment. I k ow I jave been guilty of posting snide comments in response to those repeat threads, but there is a better way to handle it and I will try my best to keep a positive attitude going forward.

I'm not being negative but Hay Day is about as appealing as a bath in cold oxtail soup. Maybe they are all too bored to troll.

There really is a dark underbelly in the Hay Day forum community. Nah, I'm just kidding, Hay Day is all rainbows and unicorns and magical adventures out on the farm.

The forums will change when SC wants it to change. Moderation can change the tone quickly if SC wants it changed.

There is day and night, sad and happy, right or left, agree or disagree. just respect to each others.

Hi guys!

This is a really great discussion. My personal opinion.... No matter what the tone of any of the 3 games is...there is ALWAYS a way to get your point across respectfully...and we should all be trying for that. :)

Let's keep THIS thread respectful and on track so that the discussion can continue.

It is simply because they are more comparable to the circlejerking sheep (feverent agreement, not the other thing. Thanks Radmins.) who are all nice to each other and don't have things like different opinions section of Reddit AKA /r/leagueoflegends whereas you people on the CoC section try really hard to be like the edgy, fedora-worshipping, buzzword abusing, bad meme-spewing, cynical half of Reddit as if they are cool or something.

I think because they are , well, a new game and don't know the hidden stuffs yet. Once i learned about the time scam i lost all trust in SC. Maybe people are less kind and friendly because they are just sad about stuff like that and others.

And that attitude (of yours) is part of the problem being discussed here.

the fact that people haven't been to Titan 2 does NOT mean they know nothing about the topic at all, and being dismissive of people's views on that sort of ground is very much a part of the issue being referred to by the OP.

Obviously, those saying "it is fine" or equivalent are just wrong, although I didn't notice many of those in your threads.

Sarcasm is the best advise people can give u suppose,no ones ever happy about an update,and with everyone calling each other a kid,guess more children here than adults (not to forget teens like me)

It's the nature of the beast. People feel safe and anonymous on their tablets and phones so they are generally more negative or challenging than they would be face to face. It's no different to how perfectly respectable people behave in their cars...sticking up fingers to other middle aged motorists and swearing profusely when their congregation would be horrified.
The irony is a vast majority of the people who rage on here are almost certainly very young given the posts and with the odd exception will have hardly spent anything on the game. They are therefore stamping their little feet about a free game being provided to them by others.
The more reasoned, thoughtfully critical posts (generally not exclusively) come from the people who have paid money..and as consumers they are absolutely right to air their views both positive and negative. SC gets a lot right and some things wrong...don't get me started on the bloody cat pictures...what's that all about.
Overall the forums make my work day go by a little quicker and the trolls make me smile....Clash on.

Discussions can meander from one point to another often ending only loosely linked to the original OP.

The thing is, the points you were making, according to OP, do not apply to Hay Day.

This is the only reason for the inception of this thread: Why do these points do not apply to Hay Day.

With your post, you just put all forumers (haydayers (?) and clashers) into one pot, whereas the OP and this thread are saying exactly the opposite.

I don't play HayDay but is the crop duster available in Derby 'when upgrading', without gemming it?

It's simple, moaners will always moan. These people expect the world to be given to them and when it doesn't happen they get all upset because Supercell didn't tailor the game exactly to their needs. They need it easy because they're not up to the challenge of adapting, adopting to improve who they are.

With this update I really like it, but it's driving me nuts hearing people complain about such small and trivial items like the league badges have changed so its a bad update or I don't like the new lava colour for level 11 walls so I'm going to rate this game a 1/5.

I have to agree with Johnny, there's a few threads up right now on subjects the participants have zero knowledge but that doesn't stop them from knowing all about the subject. I have never been to Titan, therefore I do not offer my thoughts on a subject I know nothing about. I wish everyone would do that.

Especially towards newer, inexperienced players asking honest questions and getting snapped at by annoyed forumers "THIS thread again, rolls eyes" complaining to use search feature etc etc. This just turns people off from the game and forums both, I'm sure.

i dont know about hayday but i agree with OP about negativity and sarcasm in coc forums.
u can find lot of people reposting same post only to create buzz.80% of them even dont read the post before commenting and always wants to show their superiority.
just hoping everyone give respect to each other in forums.we are small family of 20k active forumer(not inactive) and should respect each other and keep environment of forum healthy.

The reason is that they're a LOT more people on the CoC forums than on Hay Day. Which increases the trolls\person ratio. Also, Hay Day forums may have a dark side.

From now on, I'm gonna be as nice as I possibly can....mark my words!

I only ever complaint when that no responce/ troopdropping / spelldropping bug was in the game for 2 mounths straight, dont blame the the people who complain, blame the multi million company who messed up and decided not to fix it because they was "on vacation"
till this day i still call it a unproffesional move, and the guy who messed up on this huge bug must get fired, call me negative but its still my opinion.

besides that i agree, with OP and others 80% of all topics uphere is complaints by noobs who could had sorted out there problem by just using google and wasnt lazy scum. The rest of the complaints are deal with it topics. 1% is usefull topics

That only applies to thoughts about what the experience feels like. And I certainly wouldn't dream of commenting on that aspect.

The fact I have never been to Titan does NOT mean that I know nothing about WHY things are the way they are, and it is perfectly reasonable IMV to comment on the facts.

And dismissing somebody's knowledge as worthless just because they don't have direct personal experience is IMO a part of the problem referred to in the OP.

Several posts above talk about comparing clash and HayDay. That wasn't the point...the point was how people treat each other on the forums....

Thankful I've run into more helpful and friendly people (with a good dose of a sense of humour and fun) than flamers and haters. Save the destruction for the game, lol. As ppl are often fond of pointing out, forumers are a small percent of game users, so it's nice to see ppl helping each other out.

Sorry but I have to respectfully disagree. Let's say you have never been to titan, so how can you truly know what the unique problems are in titan 2+ if you have never been there? You may think you know (and want to share your thoughts), but unless you have been there you don't really know how it's like. It's great you want to share your feelings about a league you have never been to, but really are your assertions that titan 2 is fine constructive or valid in a thread where people who has been to titan 2+ ALL agreed it needs fixing and bringing exposure of the problem to the forum (and by doing so are asking the game maker for help)? Maybe the forum would be best served if people only talk about what they actually know about or ask questions if they don't (instead of bravado)?

A different type of people are in both games.We destroy,they help.That is the difference.We keep monsters they keep gentle animals.We are a warlike temperament.That is actually why coc has more players psychologically,war and battle interests the mind.Oh,and yes,we still shouldnt be toxic.We shouldnt be toxic but I cant say we will be peaceful.

Coming from the Hay Day community (June 2013) to Clash community (April 2014), I can assure you each game has its frustrating moment. Nothing worse than being zapped when you barely save enough DE for your hero or when you just missed buying that last item you needed to upgrade your barn. Both moment are bad enough to shout at the screen and/or throw your iPad away.

It is not always rainbow on Hay Day side, trust me, that forum exploded sometimes XD and badly.

The difference, from my observation, lies in how people treat each other: with respect, without personal attack. Why? The audience and their background. Most Hay Day forumers are adults with family, kids, even grandkids. They can handle child's tantrum, have enough patience to explain, stay respectful even when they disagree, listen before speaking, be considerate of other's feelings. What are the forum trolls look like compare to the real life issues they are facing everyday? It might not worth their time feeding the troll or being nasty to others.


Everyone can have a bad day, but it won't make things better to vent your anger on somebody else.
Everyone was a newbie once and received help from other players, pay it forward to other newbies.

Surely, Clash is a game about attacking others, that shouldn't stop player being respectful towards each other. The forum is your place to express your opinion in a civil way and being heard after all.

PS: I would like to thank everyone for your effort to stay positive and not posting negative thoughts you might have in mind when all you want to do is shouting at the screen when reading forum. (Thanks for letting me play the game as well isntead of being more active on forum)

It might, but while I (and many others) certainly adhere to that, it isn't going to happen any time soon :(

But it certainly doesn't help the forum to dismiss what others say as worthless when all they are talking about is facts which they can perfectly well know without having experienced the situation.

Many people are sore losers and that bleeds through in many posts. The world has become rife with "everyone is a winner" and participation awards. Well in war, there is a winner and a loser. It is much easier to blame others than it is to take stock of your own mistakes and address them. Much of the forum is split between posts suggesting that there is no way to win and posts suggesting that people are not very skilled at the game. I still like the forum but it could use a more helpful and positive tone.

...and if you are really unhappy with the game...there are other ways to spend your free time.

This is within all gaming communities, the more competition the more arrogance, obnoxiousness, hostility, sarcasm there is. This isn't just a CoC related issue but any gaming community with a lot of competitiveness.

The style of game is different. Clash is about stealing and crushing people for your gain. It is also a much larger community, so you are going to get more personalities. Also, clash is a game of strategy, so you will see the same help posts a million times when they can just search it. There's also no reason or need to help anyone outside your clan family besides wanting YouTube views and such.

So basically, clash is just a different beast entirely. It is a game not based around helping others and being friendly, so you won't see that as much. Plus, we just like complaining and showing off how good we are.

I do like the super meta idea of us all being incredibly nice as an inside joke that nobody knows about.

Thats funny. The games are definitely marketed differently.

And there are good points being made that we Clashers, in general, do like to brag/show off our bases, attack skills, knowledge, etc. And I'm not saying our community can't be helpful because again there are some very helpful, positive members in the community.

I'm sure to an extent though the Hay Dayers (or whatever they call themselve) also take pride in their farm and other in game accomplishments they just seem to interact in a more positive way on the whole.

Given the nature of the games, we will never be just like them and they have no reason to be like us. Hopefully though enough of us can make the effort (and believe me I know its not always easy) to try and keep the toxicity to a minimum.

In clash of clans, fun depends on many events, like,

- flop raids
- missing de (dark elixir) storage in raid because of wall breaker or queen's AI
- loosing de because of raids and having hard time in saving de for big upgrades
- flop attack in war, loosing war, war pressure
- errors/glitches
- hard time in getting resources for big upgrades
- hard time in pushing trophy
- and list goes on
- recruiting warriors and managing them, dealing with bad apples
- coming on forum for assistance and meeting sarcastic people with useless comments
- list goes on

All this can convert a happy joe from :cool: -> :p -> :unsure: -> :straightface: -> :eek: -> :saywhat: ->:facepalm: -> :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I will admit that I have wondered about that and the responses to the updates on Facebook.

There are so many negative comments and so many announcements of people quitting because the game is so bad!

Which makes me wonder why hundreds of millions of people are playing such a terrible game that makes them so unhappy?

Personally, I love the game. It takes teamwork to be good at the wars and keeping on top of lots of little things and seeing that if everyone improves a tiny bit we all win wars. The wars attacks are subtle and take planning and practise.

I do think that the bunnies hopping around add to the cynicism. Because (personally) I avoided joining an elite war clan because I don't want to deal with that. In my mediocre levels, we can win with skill and that just feels better.

I hope the bunnies can be fixed because I would like to admire the top attackers and know that it is skill.

they want it all (and I do mean ALL), now (though yesterday would be better) and for free (though if Supercell would pay them they'd be ok with that... well on second thought probably not ... they would still find a reason to complain) !!!!!!!!!
