Wall breakers and walking through buildings.

At the moment now, if someone masses wall breakers on you, they will choose a wall to attack and if any buildings are in the way, does not matter, the wall breakers will walk through them.

The issue.
I think this is a little overpowered. Wall breakers (and possibly goblins too) should have to have a clear path to the wall to break it. Ie only destroyed buildings or empty squares to walk on. Not just walk right through intact buildings as if they don't even exist. I think this really needs to by fixed.

Their favorite target is walls. That would mean giants would have to attack normal buildings before getting to a defense. This defeats the purpose of a favorite target.

Actually no. it just means they will work their way towards a favourite target. And not go off random in any ol direction. The favourite target will still exist. The attacker will just have to think a little more before deploying the troops.

That's still a huge nerf to the targeting of troops with specialized troops. Having those troops go on is what helps allow you to clear the path in many cases, such as wbs and giants.

You call it a nerf. I call it a balance change. Not everything that makes the game more challenging is bad. I'd rather make the battles more tactical rather then just spam your troops and hope for the best. Sure there is some tactics involved now. But my idea would expand on this.

So essence you can't skip buildings with units. You want at the core for example, you have to work your way in. Not just a few wall breakers and then mass goblins. I think that is fair. And everyone would benefit from this. Defenders have more/better base design options available this way. And attackers have a more challenging (in my opinion better) raid.

And by challenging I don't mean brick wall harder. I mean the attacker needs a little more thought. But easy bases would still be easy.

Wallbreakers do terrible damage to anything besides walls. So basically, if you drop wallbreakers and there is a building in front of the wall you want to break it will just waste its bomb.

Again, this is what the favorite target mechanism is designed to do. I don't understand why this is a problem, or something that needs to be changed. If they don't want to attack something, it makes perfect sense for them to walk right by it.

For example, a base with no empty space between their perimeter buildings (which is something I am almost doing right now actually) would effectively prevent wbs or giants from operating together with no other troops. What would they do? Why would they need to be limited to targeting areas that have already been cleared? I just don't see the improvement in gameplay.

You actually understand well. Despite the fact you claim that you don't. And having no space in the middle of your base so units have to fight their way in is the exact point. That is if the player chooses to have no free space within their core base. And by free space I mean the building itself. Not the 1 square perimeter around each building you can't spawn units onto. This 1 unit perimeter would be classified as free space. (can't spawn things on it still but units can walk in it anytime.)

And I will answer your why.
It's called base design. You choose to have space or no space within the core parts of your base. At the moment with the giants/WB's and other troops, it does not matter if the space is empty or not within your base as the WB's/giants/goblins just ignore anything you did place there. I just feel having space or not having space in your base should have some effect in gameplay. Well more than the minimal effect it has now.

And before anyone asks this idea won't make everyone have tightly packed bases. Having space within bases is still useful for funnelling and other things.

Spaces for teslas and traps are necessary, but aren't everywhere in a base. Everything would still get stuck on buildings that you don't want them to target.

I was saying that I think you would be creating a problem and I wasn't exactly sure what you were trying to solve by it. One quote was me commenting on the problem I didn't see, the other was me commenting on the effects of the proposed change, which I think are negative.


If monotony of base designing is your concern here, I don't think it's worth the tradeoff in this particular case. I would like to see something done about this, but this isn't a route I like.



Edit: To be clear, I don't see the problem you see as a problem in the same way. I think the wb change is what really standardized base design and that this isn't a good way around that. I like the favorite target mechanism as is. That's my 2 cents.

Hmmm, that's a perfect example of someone misquoting someone. He said he doesn't understand why the fact they walk by is a problem, not the "logic" behind your idea.

The whole point to wallbreakers is so they go after walls and straight towards them. Not clear a path. Then they would be pointless.

This just sounds like someone raging after being 3 stared by someone.

This makes about as much sense as defenses not being able to shoot over other buildings.

Your assumption is wrong. I just gave my opinion on things and how I see things is all. I know it is not a popular idea. Cause anything that makes it slightly more challenging to 3* those easy bases will be met with hate. (almost) free loot is a drug most people are addicted to.
