Why won't my troops attack the CC troops once lured?

I just finished an attack where I lured the CC (dragon, wiz, archer). I dropped troops right by the dragon after poisoning the wiz/arch. The troops just moved all the way to the border of the base and fired on structures instead of the dragon. Is this by design? The dragon was clearly closer

Did the dragon attacked them? beause I belived the cc troops attack then your troops.

Yes the dragon attacked them. My kill squad just totally ignored the dragon and attacked structures instead. I can't figure out why this happens. The dragon was right on top of them and they ignored him and walked to the edge of the base to attack structures. There must be a reason why this is happening. If its not by design, its a bug. I've had it happen many times.

I'm wondering if its something about dropping troops outside the playing field that causes this? The dragon was right on top of them though and they walk 6-7 spaces away and ignore it.

What troop was it?

if you can find a spot with no buildings around get it out there the feed the dragon a few barbs or a giant then your damage troops.....see guys in my clan struggle with this and it drives me nuts.

I dropped some archers around it. Half of which attacked it half of which ignored it. Then I dropped 7 wizards to finish it off and all but 2 started walking away from it. I usually am a dragon/air attack guy but this was an upgraded th9 base set up for hogs...packed in with no double gbombs. I ended up having to blow my queen who also ignored the dragon. 98% due to the dragon fiasco. It doesn't make any sense to me. I guess next time I bring an extra giant. One to pull, one to draw fire.

I still would like to know though. What is the me mechanism that causes this? If I drop a wizard for example 1-2 slots away right under the dragon, why would they walk 6-7 spaces away to attack a structure?

This is what I usually do. If i am using a barch army to farm and found out there are some cc troops in the castle, I drop a barb at the corner of the screen where i want to attack. When the barb dies from all the point damage, i send another barb and repeat this process until the troops are at the corner of the screen and THERE ARE NO OTHER BUILDINGS NEARBY. Then i drop a circle of archers behind and when the barb dies i drop another barb. This way, they will keep targeting the barbs and the archers will be left relatively unharmed.

I hear you. That's what I usually do. There wasn't a ton of room this time, but it seems like closest target rule was broken in this case. I just don't get it. If anyone has an explanation Id like to hear it. It seems like its a random thing where some troops just ignore CC troops even if they are clearly the closest object to target. Maybe it has to do with the dragon. The wizard had a sliver of health when I dropped and he was targeted straight off. The dragon was not.

I would also like to know why this happens. It is extremely irritating.
