For a farming th9 base should I put x bows ground only or ground and air.
Ground and air.
In general ground and air is the best because it will defend from all armies.
I've been a TH9 farmer in gold 2 for quite some time and I never get attacked by air, so both x-bows are always pointed at the ground. They have a much better range at ground only, so two bows cover my entire base.
As mentioned above, ground AND air is your best bet
it all really depends where you're farming. if you farm in the lower ranks, such as gold or silver, i would definitely suggest ground only, as the majority of you defenses will be against gibarch, barch, or some combo of ground only troops. if you are farming more in crystal for the loot bonus as well as the loot, i would suggest ground and air, or one of each, as air attacks start to become more common.
Ground only when farming.
Most people do not seem to realise that an xbow does not really do a lot more damage than an average cannon or archer tower. A lvl 3 x-bow has the same dps as a lvl 11 archer tower.
If you put that x-box on air and ground, it will also have the range of that lvl 11 archer tower (OK, one tile more).
What the x-box has going for it is the fantastic range, when put on ground. It covers 195 tiles when put on ground. While only 120 when on air and ground.
(yes, rapid firing is also an advantage of xbow against small troops).
If you are pushing, you need the extra air power to defend against lavaloonion and the like. But if you are farming in gold leagues, those armies won't bother you.
When farming in gold league I set them to ground only (and when one is upgrading) but I will put them on ground and air for pushing as lots of people bring lavaloonion and you need the extra power in the core of your base to fight them off.
