Donating to War Castles: Bug or Intentional Feature?

Hey guys,

The other day I noticed something really weird that caught me by surprise (I sometimes have slight OCD when it comes to bugs and minor things :P).

Basically, when you donate to a war castle, your "troops donated" count and your player experience level do not increase. At all. The season counter doesn't increase, and your total counter located in your profile doesn't increase.

(I haven't kept track of the "troops received" count of the receiving player, so I'm not sure if this is also unaffected, but I assume so.)

All I want to know is, is this intentional?? If so, why?

If it isn't intentional though, I would definitely want to see some changes made, especially regarding the experience and donation count aspect. The received doesn't matter as much. :smirk:

The way I understood this was that at the END of the preparation day, the game sees who donated what troops and rewards experience and / or increases their counters respectively. This process ignores troops that got dumped, which allows it to bypass potential abuse using the "dump and donate" method. This is genius. http://forum.supercell.net/images/smilies/thumbsup.png

I see what you mean... but can't Supercell just use the troop donating limit thing that is already used for regular donations? So if player A donates 6 archers to player B, who deletes them, then player A can't donate troops again. This can prevent abuse.

But idk, supercell should indeed add that.. Would also encourage all those who hide during war cc donations to donate more.

Yes, they just need to have two timers, one for donating to war cc, and one for donating to normal cc. Problem solved. And yes, the reason it doesn't count (though I've never seen an SC employee confirm this) is allegedly to curb abuse and get mass XP from people deleting/donating in a cycle. Of course what that fails to note is that those same players still need to wait for troops to train, or spend elixir on said troops. Nevermind the time spent on both sides to get a handful of XP. Maybe if somebody automated the process it could be an issue, but that's about it...

I agree that war donations should not give XP, but they ARE real donations, and they should count, both in the clan roster, and the FIN achievement.

High donations helps for recruiting, and it helps us know who is contributing as well. The credit should be shown somewhere.

Yeah the timer idea seems great! It slows potential abuse and exp farming while also allowing war donating to remain flexible and for the same player to donate again if he / she mistapped the first time(s).

Well, I guess technically experience doesn't really matter at the moment (other than for some minor decoration unlocks). But I really want them to count in the various counters, and I agree with your point.

Yes...this is discouraging.
I say only count the max troop capacity player A donates to player B in one donation limit.
SC should include it in the next update

Do troop donations in Clan Wars count towards achievements?

Troop donations made in Clan Wars will not count toward the Friend in Need achievement (or yield XP).

We'd like to make sure your clan mates donate Clan War troops for a single purpose: to win the War. We want Clashers to be motivated by the cause, and not for gems and achievements. We're not saying that every player would donate troops without consideration (most Clashers are loyal), but many would give away the cheapest troops available (like Goblins) simply to climb the achievement ladder.


Now that you can drop unwanted Clan War troops, this would be far too easy to exploit, especially given that, in Clan Wars, there is no cool down period between donations.


Again, most Clashers honor sportsmanlike behavior, but there are players who make the most of loopholes. We don't want fair players to feel like they're getting the raw end of the deal. We believe this to be a reasonable resolution.

Exactly my thought as to why it is not done. The people would make use of the cheapest troops and would fill every cc every time. Unless other people (leader/coleader) could remove the troops from the Ccs that have bad troops this whole idea would never work. If you have not noticed yet, almost every single achievement is exempt from being raised during wars except the war stars and loot won. Now I do not understand why ITs and xbows destroyed in war do not count but they nonetheless do not.

Having only the final donated troops count at the start of war is a new idea that could improve the feature. Not a programmer so not sure how difficult it would be to track that over a 24 hour period.

Thanks for the insight. I do believe that changes (such as the one suggested by AeroCloud) can be made that simultaneously prevent loopholes from being exploited and reward players who contribute.

The achievements all say "in multiplayer battles", which refers to regular matchmaking (and maybe revenge?) matches. I guess wars don't count as multiplayer battles.

I'm guessing that donated war troops could potentially be linked to player tags, which bypasses problems caused by people who change their name. I imagine that the programming wouldn't be too difficult compared to some of the new things Supercell is constantly releasing :smirk:

It is a shame that people are not motivated to donate to war clan castles due to there not being a reward, however there isn't much choice due to the way it could be exploited as aforementioned. However, if the xp and rewards only counted for troops in the clan castle at the END of preparation day, this feature could really work and motivate people to actually put decent stuff in the clan castle or else people will just remove it and they won't get the xp. This also fixes the exploit that people could dump and donate.

I really hope Supercell implements this into the game. It would make keeping track of clan members' actual donation counts so much easier.

War is just a mini game within clash...surely you don't need extra credit for the handful of troops you donate to yoyr fellow warriors?! There are two achievement exclusively devoted to war activities...I think that's plenty recognition for those who war.

Even though I like that idea, I still think current system is right

Because in a clan war cc, the clan interest is to have the best troops the clan can provide to win the war

So basically only max troops or high th players donate. That means the lower players even though want to help clan won't be able to and thus, they won't be able to gain xp or get troop donation added.

I think it's fine as is. We donate plenty to war cc. But I don't think we should ask for it to count. We only want best troops in defense, so lower players will get left out even if they had every intention to be part of it and help out

So it shouldn't be added imo. War should never be about troop donation or loot. It's just for sake of clan and to enjoy with clan members in combined effort.

I disagree with your point. Why shouldn't you be rewarded, or at least recognized, for donating towards war CCs? I spend hundreds of thousands of elixir, as well as training time that could have been used for farming troops, every two days just to donate dragons to half of my clan's war bases. And I get zero credit whatsoever?

And even if you aren't rewarded experience, the troops you donate to war castles should still definitely be counted in seasonal donation counts, right? This makes it easier for leaders to keep track of how much people are actually donating.

I don't know how your clan works, but my clan wars with a few TH9s and many TH8s. My clan is lv5 and our TH8s can contribute by donating max wizards and balloons, while our TH9s usually do the dragons (but since lv4 and lv5 dragons don't have too much of a difference in stats, our TH8s can donate dragons as well). Anyway, it's natural that the higher level players can help out the lower level players. Almost no clans are completely equal in terms of donations and requests anyway.

I spend hundreds of thousands of elixir, as well as training time that could have been used for farming troops, every two days just to donate dragons to half of my clan's war bases. You said it- 'combined effort '..When there is a credit for your effort, there will be more of a combined effort.
And even if your clan mates don't join you in donating, you will be rewarded for your efforts at least

Well then dont be the guy that donates to al of the castles if it bugs you so much. If your clan doesnt have enough ppl to donate to war cc's...maybe its time to have a chat with your warriors.

It tickles me how everyone wants credit for normal things...you wanna war, you gotta fill war cc's. War is team sport , so everyone with decent level troops should participate, thus no one member has to do all the donating alone. So if your clan has any team spirit the you'd only donate a handful troops each war... and wow all over sudden it's no longer a big deal that needs extra counters and bells and whistles.

You guys make me laugh...seriously XD

I have hardly posted in here but have been reading and following the forum for a very long time. I completely agree with fette. I am the leader of my clan and happen to be a max defense and offense TH 10. We have a very wide range of bases in our clan ranging from about 5-6 TH 10s all the way down to a couple of TH 5s.... We have a rule that only coleaders with Max troops can donate to War castles. Consequently, I often donate 90% of the troops to the war castles. I have absolutely no complaints about this. I do not feel any need to be recognized, nor do I expect that I will ever recover the amount I spend on the war. So be it. When we go to war everyone is expected to train and use their best troops and to attack for the good of the clan. I am very quick to eliminate anybody that appears to be acting in a selfish manner. That would range from donating low level troops to war castles to gain xp, loot sniping in war... and even the glory hunters who attack way above the level where they can reasonably expect to get 3 stars.

In short, war is about the whole clan coming together toward a common goal. It is NOT for individual achievement.

If donating to war castles is a "normal thing", then why is donating to regular castles not a "normal thing"? Don't you see that changing the current system will encourage people to donate so one guy doesn't have to do all the donating?

If you disagree that's fine. I don't care. Clearly there are a lot more people supporting this idea than those who don't, and it's usually the majority that wins. Supercell can always make it an optional feature if they want.

There are other clans with, for instance, all max TH10s, and some people donate troops while others don't. Clans like these need a more accurate way to track actual donations, including war donations, so that's what I'm trying to propose. I don't understand how this is "selfish"; on the other hand, this would actually encourage more people to donate (while abiding by their clan's donation rules) because they will know that they will be recognized for it.

Like I mentioned earlier, experience doesn't necessarily have be awarded if a lot of people are against it (which I don't understand because experience literally doesn't matter except for unlocking obstacles). I don't see anything wrong with implementing counter changes though.

This comes down to one thing--clan management. This would be even better accomplished with a log of who donated what.

Handful of troops? I burn anywhere from 800k to a million elixir, and 3-5k DE every two days, on defensive clan castles alone. That's a little more than a handful.

None of supercells comments make sense. There is already a LIMIT to the amount of troops you can donate to any one war CC. The most you could do is give each player this amount.

WE NEED these troops added to our donations and we also NEED to know who added what troops to what war cc. Why is this not done already?

Exactly! Many clans use elite troops such as max dragons and lava hounds (among others, such as wizards and balloons or occasionally witches) for defense. Not only does this cost massive amounts of elixir and dark elixir, but the training time is also a major factor: every two days players like me have to dedicate hours to just training troops to donate! That time could have went towards training farming troops.

Yes, exactly. AeroCloud's proposal would tie all loose ends and make things work perfectly.

I'd always wondered about this, I'm glad you brought it up.

I don't think it's a bug, but neither do I know why they would intentionally do that... It's not an exploitable feature, since you can only donate 6 troops per CC, per war. As someone who uses plenty Dragons to fill war CCs, I'd be really happy if they made those donations count as well.

Here is some clarification based on what previous forum members have posted: Supercell intends for war donations to not count because it can be abused. Although you can donate 6 troops (or 5 or 8 depending on your clan level) per CC, the receiver can instantly dump them, which could lead to abuse where one person keeps on donating and the other keeps on deleting the troops. This is why Supercell decided not to count war donations as part of regular donations.

Therefore, AeroCloud's suggestion of simply seeing who donated what at the end of prep day can tie all loose ends and be a viable solution. :D

You could abuse the power of being able to delete the troops from the war clan castle and people could keep leveling up very quickly.

Are there really people so concerned about "level" that they would waste the lix/de involved just to level up more quickly?

Level is essentially meaningless, why on earth would anybody do that?

I can just about understand it until the gem achievements are reached, but that is different because you actually get a tangible benefit.

But I think if we really do need to keep track of donations and how many each did donate etc for better management for those clans that has tough time with loyalty or high players who refuse to donate..

I think I have an idea that could fix that issue which can help with everything and yet not change anything about current ways



Just add a troop counter next to war timer in profile to show how many troops has been donated to current war. This counter will get reset each war end time


This way,
1. you will get recognized for your effort.
2. Xp won't be added.
3. No friend in need change(as this can help to check their activeness)
4. You can track who is donating how much each war
5. Everyone wins?

Which is exactly why AeroCloud's suggestion solves this issue: if you only count troops at the end of the prep day, any troops donated and then dumped will be ignored.

What do you mean? If you're talking about the current system, then yes war donations do not add to your troops donated counter or to your experience level. I want to change that :D
