I'm a max def th9 farming walls and heroes, and given my heroes are now mostly asleep I find this is a good alternative when my heroes are sleeping, and I don't have my aq to snipe the de store.
Im farming walls with BAG usually, but when i get bored i go for DE with superqueen, or GiBArch/GiBAG.
I loot more or less 10K De a day and I'm a max TH8 player.
First of, don't use DE units and Spells, that defines the point to get as much DE as possible.
Second, you are going for a so called 2 star strategy to get to the DE Storage So this includes Giants and wizards and a small hand of archers to deal with CC units. If you have pekkas already, then you can add one to make it interesting. Spells are normally healing to keep the giants alive as long as possible and one rage for the wizards to hit that DE Storage before they get killed.
Im a heavy looter, I really dont care if I lose some elixir on the way, in my evening Farming I get it back in any way. So be prepared to lose some Elixir while you loot DE.
Finding tons of maxed drills ever since I was TH10 in C1/M3. Farming easily 20-40k DE per day, and don't even hit any storages except exposed ones. Gibarch + 1 hero for consistent 50%
I made at least 65,000 DE yesterday with GiBAG army in Silver 1 (no boosted barracks...with boosted barracks I'd assume at least 120,000). This has been an effective strategy for at least a week since I've been doing it.

At Th7 I found Giant/Wizard/Healer the best army for storage raids, including DE. I had no problem getting BK5 pretty quick.
I also did a lot of straight Barch looking for DE storage behind just 2 levels of walls - if you don't mind losing a ton of trophies, which I didn't care about, you can get to the DE storage but not much else. Clear the outer the buildings with barbs, break the wall send in archers to shoot over 2nd wall. Also pick off every exposed drill you can find, those little bits add up.
I found BAM pretty effective at TH8 but never really wanted to spend the DE building minions at TH7.
BAM, with the four finger strike technique.
Don't care how much I get, I boost when I use the four finger strike. Generally cause I got a babby in my lap, so no thought required. Just get dat loot.

giarch + WB gotta throw in some WB.. With some spells, maybe a couple valks or hogs for the lulz (cc of course) works for me when I can actually binge on farm runs.
