It still works, even better now with the upgrades to healers and giants since this was posted. Just outdated as Sharp has come up with better strategies now.

The loot system has changed, and there are other methods to get DE quicker (Loons)

i prefer sharp's strategy over loons as of now because of the 1 gem boosting. i've tried his other mini guide regarding loons/mins but it just takes too long to find a base worth raiding and most of the time, i spend more gold than i would like to farm for de.

This would be very unusual to be said before..I find a great amount of de much easier now than gold , gold is very hard

I wanna start getting my heroes up (currently Lvl 1) but I want to be able to alternate between gold farming and DE farming. I very much like the idea of using loons to farm DE up in Crystal / masters, but I can see a problem arising. It takes a while to push that far in cups to farm the DE, and if you do all your gold farming in gold league as I do, then alternating between the 2 could be tricky. If you spend a few days farming for high level heroes up in Masters / crystal, by the time you come back down the 7 day upgrade will have almost ended, and rising back up to farm in masters / crystal could take a while to reach again.

Is there a good DE farming spot where you can farm your gold and DE at the same range. Using BAM for gold and loons for DE?

I would say around 2000-2100, 1800-1900 is not bad either.
