I am a mid TH9 and find very very few bases where I can win more trophies than I can lose. I can find a huge amount where I can win between one and four trophies but lose between 29 and 36 even on mid or advanced TH10s. Now with raiding being so much harder since the update, there is very little incentive for me to try anything other than snipes, and they are few and far between. I am in M1 but am going to drop.
The trophies depend on the difference between the target's trophies and yours. If they are currently above you, you win a lot/lose a little. If they are below you win less/lose more.
And yes, the offers you see will be unbalanced in places, because the population of unshielded targets is limited. The system is trying to find TH9s for you - there are very few unshielded TH9s in M1, and even fewer above. There are plenty in M3 though (judging from my nexting easily 10 times as many).
Why are there so few? Partly because there probably are fewer TH9s in M1 and above. Quite a few of the guys in my clan like M3, but not so much higher masters. But mainly because in M1 and above any TH9 is going to get attacked pretty quickly for trophies and/or the loot bonus. Even if the base has TH inside and poor loot, some TH10 will smash it for trophies, or barch 50% for the champ bonus. Either way it gets shielded very quickly. It gets worse as you go up. There are plenty of unshielded TH10s from about 3200 up to I guess about 3400 or 3500. Above that any base gets hit for trophies very fast. So if you press next from 3500 and up, almost every target, even the max-TH10s will offer you a very small number of trophies. Unless you are lucky to be the first to see someone who just went offline - in which case it might be someone above you and you get a sensible trophy offer
Adding to what Onyx said, the higher you go, the more interested opponents are in trophies. Many a player might pass up attacking you if the trophy offer is not good enough.
I don't doubt a formula of sorts is being used for calculating the trophy gain/loss for winning/losing a raid. What I find strange is that when nexting I find an easy lower TH lvl base which potentially offers more trophies for 3 stars than a higher level base I have no chance in gaining even 1 star.
This is what SC told me, but the evidence I have of Higher TH, higher trophies, more advanced troops only yielding 2-4 trophies contradicts this. Also, revenge attacks on a higher base that has higher trophies, etc also yields no trophies recovered. So no reason to revenge.Quote:

And thanks to the other posters too. I am definitely on my way down, although the loot bonus was good for upgrading walls.

To be equally blunt: if the evidence contradicts statements made; then the statements are wrong, unless you are a politician. I only mentioned the th and troops to point out that there is no way they are a lower base. I am not talking about 20-30 trophy difference either; I am talking about them being in a higher league as well. "Nexting for 20 minutes" only further reinforces that there is more to it than what has been simplistically stated since the computer is supposedly matching you up.Quote:
