Assuming he has 5 builders and he plays ALOT, completing all lv8 walls at his lv is more than possible without gems. The haters who can't achieve this accomplishment love to blame gems for hard work and dedication.

After you are done with maxing out, don't hesitate. To be honest, at 1500 trophies, farming is actually quite great(due to summer inactive bases). I have found some raids today that have been up to 500k gold and 500k elixir.. Rare, but nowadays finding a 200+/200+ raid is quite easy. Stay at about 1560-1600 and your golden.

Also, once you can hold 220 troops, use this army composition:

8 giants.
8 wall breakers.
44 goblins.
60 archers.
60 barbarians.

Works great for me. Best army composition I have ever used. Hope this helped.

I'd say at TH8, farming between 1100-1300 is way better for looting resouces. I can loot around 1 mil each resource per hour at that range.
