Is TH8.5 Worth It If Not War Specialist?

A lot of people don't think period. They think that just because their placement on the war map is only determined by defenses, offense must not matter. I don't think you're necessarily getting your clan a more difficult war by going to .5. You are certainly pulling in a stronger opponent with a higher war score...but difficulty should incorporate both your opponents strength and also your strength. If you're building in a way in which your strength is maximized compared to the strength of the clan you're bringing in...wars should be easier (less difficult) even while bringing in an opponent that has a higher war weight and is stronger than a previous opponent would be.

If you and I both shoot free throws at 50% each, and we have a contest...is that easier or more difficult for you than if you shoot free throws at 90% and I shoot at 60%? It's easier if you're 90% and I'm 60%...even though I'm a stronger opponent than at 50%, because ease isn't just me or you, it's how we compare.

Offense wins wars. You can attack 2 bases, you only defend 1.

When we have one TH9 and so does opponent it's pretty hard doing otherwise XD

Beside that, being a TH7-TH8 oriented clan as far as most TH8s are tripled we have good chance at winning XD
We face very few clans who can constantly triple our TH8s
Last war won with 20 triples, 2 doubles and 3 singles. And we had less TH8s :cool:

An 8.5 cannot be three starred by a TH8, despite only added traps, one defense, and new walls. Yet an 8.5 can three star any and every TH8 and some lower TH9.

A lot of people have learned through first hand experience that going to TH9 and putting down your new defenses...particularly xbows...right away is suicide. 8.5 is not suicide.

PS: Collector levels matter. So do storages. Having more hit points to kill absolutely has an impact.

Yes you are increasingly your weight by doing offense only, I never said offense didnt impact war weight BUT the impact is much lower than if you had upgraded your offense AND defenses. You are allowing your attacking ability/offense strength to catch up to your TH level before you burden your clan with the full weight of that TH level. It works, I know because we do it, if you don't believe me thats fine but I'm not just spouting theory, We have only a few .5s in my clan but it absolutely seems to make a difference when someone goes the .5 route vs. going all in right away.

It's a very simple thing. You can increase your defensive ability in war far more quickly than offense. You drop two xbows day on of TH9, they are in your war map immediately. Same for new walls obviously, or any other new defenses. And maybe you add a level 1 or 2 archer queen that first day, maybe you even gem your spell factory finished for that fourth spell...you still in no way have a TH9 offense yet your war base strength is much closer to a 9 than it is to an 8. That's bad.
