The unthinkable

Lately, I have been reading posts about trapped Town Halls and how much everybody hates them, and further, if someone sees one of these THs, they proceed to annihilate them to teach them a lesson.

Yesterday morning I decided to do a small test case to see if the rest of the clash community would do the same as all of you would have. I trapped my TH with four Hidden Teslas and proceeded to break my shield after every successful attack.

From a small sample of 27 attacks on my base, 11 dropped their troops, seen that it was trapped and moved on giving me a total of 264 trophies; the remaining 16 threw down the majority of troops (one dropped 24 L6 Giants) at the Teslas in panic and ended up getting my TH for the 4-11 trophies, this lost me 113 trophies.

I learned a couple of things from this en devour; First, Trapping a TH is a good way to earn a significant amount of trophies quickly; Second, these forums are filled with some of the most aggressive clashers anywhere.

My TH is now back to the corner surrounded with vegetation and a white flag no longer trapped. I felt bad every time those teslas popped up.

For reference, I am a defencively maxed TH9 (now) in Crystal I.

Might be true in C1... I can tell you I never missed a trapped TH in champs, and I guess most people up there are able to take any trapped tesla down without the need for 26 lvl6 Giants. I usually only need to use 5 barbs + 5 arch per lvl 8 tesla and I'm good to go.

I found a TH 9 yesterday with an outside TH that looked trapped. So I did what good forumer would do, launch a full attack on the other side (he had 100k gold and 150k elixir. I'm in M2).

I kept 30 barbarians for when I would reach his TH in the end.

Surprise, the TH had 2 level 7 teslas besides it.

In the end, 70% destruction. 2 stars. Left 40k gold and 30k elixir.

I hope he liked the replay. Hope he wasn't looking for trophies :D

You're right about getting cups quickly. Trapping is also the quickest way to achieving unbreakable. Personally I have no issue coming across trappers, sometimes I hand them the victory, sometimes I don't. It depends on the loot available and the army I have. Quite often I have just king and queen while the rest are cooking, and I am just nexting for snipes and some easy win bonus. A lot of the 'anger' and boasting I read on here is largely from internet tough guys who need to realise they are just pixels on a screen to the rest of us. Nothing I read from these guys will surprise, shock or impress me compared to what I see and hear in real life. That said it can entertain and make chuckle at times.

Not sure how you made so many defences. I am in c2 and every time I got an attack with the same tactic I just got powered through and still lost the the battle. My problem may have been that I only used 2 level 7 tesla. I however once realized that I was not going to get defences and got wrecked once for good measure went back to the flowers and torches around my th. Only trapped as a test since I found 5 trapped th in a row one day while roaming for snipes while army trained.

Anyone know if dropping down to silver 3 or lower and either trapping or leaving my th inside will get a lot of defense? Would like to try for the defense achievement soon, but fear with the new match making I may be too late to make it easy.

You have to remember that I purposely broke my shield after a successful attack giving me more opportunities to get a win. They all didn't come one after another. I would not do this on a regular basis since I don't have that much time to monitor the game. A lot of the attackers were able to get my TH after expending more troops then they planned. I would say half the wins came from (as someone stated earlier) clashers waiting on their army to finish training looking for a cheap snipe.

I think it helps that I have maxed defencive structures, it may make someone think longer about going for the additional star.

Trapping a TH is only a good way to earn trophies at low trophy levels like C1. At that level you still get tons of people who don't care about trophies at all, so they see the traps pop up around the TH and just quit (because they don't care about trophies and were just trying to help a farmer out). Once you hit a higher level where anybody actually cares about trophies all that happens is that people see the traps pop up, are unwilling to lose the trophies by quitting, have to spend part of their army getting the TH, so they just say "screw it" and do a full-on attack for 2-3 stars instead of taking the easy 1.

I think it's less about having aggressive attackers on the forum and probably more about having people on the forum who have at some point been significantly higher than C1 in trophies...where quitting just because a TH is trapped isn't really an attractive option. On one of my accts (defenseless TH7) I'd just quit if I saw a trapped TH. I don't care about the trophies down there, if you want trophies you can have them. When I'm climbing in trophies on my TH10 though I care about trophies and am unwilling to simply quit and hand over trophies...the best alternative option is just launching a full attack.

In C1 as a TH9 I think you're right. I would imagine you're getting hit by a lot of lower TH9s, 8s, and 7s in C1. The same applies to TH8s that are down in gold, they're just getting sniped by opponents who likely won't be 3 starring them anyways, so giving up or expending troops are their only good options.

I think if you did the same in M1 you'd find significantly different results. I think it has more to do with your based compared to the trophy level than it does forumers being more aggressive.

I'm on my way to MI now, so I'll try it again and see the results, just for curiosity. It shouldn't take me that long to get up there...I'll post the results with some screenshots this time maybe.
