TH8 Clan War army choice

Hello I'd like to have some advice from experimented TH8 clashers or higher level, so here's my issue :

I am mid TH8 and I'm sick of using dragon attacks over and over, they are currently level 2(Drag) and I tried to get them up to level 3 but I keep getting attacked by higher levels and I don't play often, so I upgraded Wizard to level 5 instead and I'd like to know which alternative units I should use, Some people (both friends and random clashers on the internet) suggested me to use Hog Riders and some GoWiPe. I was thinking going for GoWiPe since I upgraded both Dark Barracks to level 3 and I'm only 1 level ahead to get the Golem unlocked, and I also have 2 level 9 Barracks 1 level ahead from unlocking the Pekkas but the thing that bothers me is that I'll have to manage to get 3M elixir for the Pekka lv2 then 6M elixir to get the Pekka lv 3 and 60k dark elixir for the Golem lv2.
My Hog Riders are level 2 but a friend told me to upgrade them to level 4 and I never used them before, I can upgrade them to lv3 with 30k dark elixir then 40k for the lv4 with a total of 70k dark elixir just 10k above the Golem lv2 but the GoWiPe seems more exciting to use also I need to put a lot more effort to get the GoWiPe.
So which one ? GoWiPe or Hog Riders ?

[Additional:] I have issues getting ressources because I didn't played the game for 2 months and only started to play again a few weeks ago, and I totally forgot how to play ♥♥♥♥, and I had a favourite trophy range but I forgot it I think it was around 1100 and I used to get 200k gold 200k elixir, up to 350k each in average. I only get 150k each now and I'm below that 1100 trophy range and I use Barch both lv 5 and 4 respectively, does anyone have farming tips for me ?

Your friend is right, hogs only become a viable war option when trained upto lvl4 and above. I'd leave well alone until you've achieved that goal

GoWiPe is a good alternative, some bases more suitable than others. You're likely at a stage where your PEKKA and Golem are both lvl1...that's ok as you're presumably attacking mid TH8's in your current situation but I'd suggest powering those up as soon as you can.

What you have to think about and remember is that gowipe is known as the 2 star strategy. It can often gain three if used either really well on the right base, or with luck. Hogs on the other hand is more versatile. I Had used hogs most of my th 8 career and has a better chance in long run of getting the three. However hogs can also be a 1 star only if not used properly or unlucky. Altogether I would get the hogs up quickly since they are better to use until other ways to war can be found. Just remember to bring all heals and watch for the GBs. Also, be sure to kill the cc troops first.

I agree with Rahle. Gowipe is a consistent 2 stars, sometimes 3. Hogs are either a 1 or 3 star. Probably more 1 star until you get the hang of it. Thing is if your having trouble upgrading dragons, then your going to have much more trouble upgrading these troops (hogs twice, pekkas, golems - both twice)

Myself and several others in our clan all did drags lvl3 first before the long time consuming path towards hogs and gowipe.

Get your hogs to lvl 4 and then you can 3 star th8s.GoWiPe is a 2 star strategy because golems , pekkas,bk are so slow you will not have time for cleanup

The quickest way is to go with Hogs attack. Hogs are east to get to lvl 4, yes it a bit difficult to manage 3 stars at first but once you learn to study and judge the patters of bases for GBs then you will be rocking, its a very fun attack. After that move you Pekka to Lvl 3 which would take about 22 days from lvl1 to lvl3, in the mean time collect for Golem and then bam! you are ready for GoWiPe. Just make sure you have your Heal spell up to lvl 5 before you get to Pekka.

Level 3 Hogs can wreck TH 8 bases with some skills and level 4 ones are unstoppable.

That being said, you should upgrade your hogs as soon as possible. GoWiPe, as everyone else has pointed out, is a consistent two star strategy, but bringing backend Balloons/Hogs could easily turn this into a three star strategy.

I highly recommend watch YouTube vidoes (Powerbang Gaming, Onehive) to learn how to use hogs.

Did dragons first then two times hogs and then wizzwizz. Hogs work perfectly for me

I just reached TH8 a month ago and I upgraded these already: Wiz 5, Drag 3, Arch 5, currently Hog 3.

I upgraded dragon because I thought it would be a 3 star strategy against mid-high TH8. Who knows the dragons are sometimes unreliable esp with ADs lvl 6.

I switched to Gowipe depends on the base. I only used Golem lvl 1, Pekka lvl 1 and Wiz lvl 5 and it still works fine if u can guide your Golems and Pekkas to the core correctly.

I can't wait to unlock Hog lvl 4 to try those Gohowi attacks. :D

I'm mid TH8 and only now have I managed to work out Hogs pathing and when and WHERE to PRE-HEAL them( I love using them on the right bases)..
I did the drags lvl3 bit from start of TH8 and got bored like yourself (after going the whole of TH7 with them.

So like most say farm hard and get your Hogs to lvl4 asap(you'll struggle at 1st but when you nail your 1st 3 star attack, you'll be so elatted)
GOWIPE at TH8 is OK even with gol,s n Pekka at lvl1(still take out bases for 2 stars)

BUT FOR ME IT,S HOGS ALL THE WAY..
