Virtual Bullies (To clarify I am talking about TH9s relentlessly picking on TH8s)

I am currently TH8, and a problem I have been suffering from is the fact that TH9s relentlessly attack me when I’m offline minding my own business, 3-star my base, and leave afterwards, taking several trophies and some of my hard-earned money with them.

Given the fact that this has been a part of the game so long, I have faith in Supercell that this is a balanced part of gameplay, or else they would have done something about it. That being said, there should be some way to stop these bullies from stealing my lunch money – or do I just grit my teeth and bear it?

And that leads me to a roadblock, which is: how do I deal with them? Revenging seems infeasible; lots of them have good base layouts that would be difficult, if not impossible, for me to reclaim my stolen money. And even if I could do the job, they're shielded most of the time – they’re farmers like me, rocking outside Town Halls. Don’t forget the fact that revenging one TH9 will not stop others from pillaging my village.
I am a fairly new TH8, so I am upgrading my Mortars, Wizard Towers, and especially Air Defenses. Although I only upgrade one Air Defense at a time, I assume this is enough of a weakness for a TH9 rocking Giant-Healer to come along and stomp my base — maybe if I stop upgrading Air Defenses Giant-Healer will be kept away? I don’t know.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

And I don’t know how helpful this information is, but I’ve dealt with this as a TH7, where TH8s would come along and bully me for my lunch money, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as now. While I was TH7, only three TH8s harassed me, while at TH8 I’ve had 20 TH9s come and harass me.

(A little note: as a result of suffering this trauma, I vowed never to attack anyone with a lower Town Hall than me, and only picking on people my own size. I don’t want anyone else to suffer what I suffered, and I especially don’t want to be the bully and inflict such trauma on them.)

But in the end, Clash of Clans is just a game, and I won’t get too upset if I just have to deal with this for the rest of my TH8 career. Though it certainly is annoying to the extreme.

That's just how the game works. You always go after weaker bases to take their loot and trophies.
As a TH9, I definitely look for TH8s to attack. Especially if the collectors are full.
A couple of suggestions if the action is getting too hot for you-
Set your TH out in a corner. Give it up. Accept the loss of only a couple trophies and the subsequent free shield you get. The loot loss is minimal and if you play in extended sessions, the trophy loss is negligible as well.
But, do not set up traps (bombs, teslas, etc) around your TH. that's just going to make players mad and you will be back to getting 3-starred again. It will also cost you a lot more loot.

Drop down in trophy levels. If you are in Crystal, drop back down to Gold. If you're in Gold, drop down to Silver. See if the action is a little more to your liking in a different trophy level.

Use up all of your resources before logging off. Those big, bright pink elixir storages act like a giant billboard screaming "RAID ME AND TAKE MY LOOT!!" Burn off everything you can. Build walls. Upgrade troops. Cook up high value troops in your barracks, even if you don't plan to use them. Anything to make your loot levels lower.

TH8s are definitely very handicapped at defense. The offense at TH9 is overly superior to TH8 defense with an extra 20 camp space, queen, more hero levels and extra 5 units in the CC- don't expect to ever properly defend against half-decent TH9s.

Instead, focus on evasion. Place your TH in the corner of the map, completely unprotected and surround it with decorations. Keep a builder free for loot dumps into walls and keep your storages empty when offline as much as possible.

TH8 wasn't too enjoyable in terms of base building and defense, so the best solution is to avoid TH9s altogether.

But the gap between TH9 and TH10 is nothing between 8 and 9. The increase in firepower is by far way too overpowered for TH8s to prevent.

As a TH8, you will never defend against a TH9. Against a TH9 that knows what it's doing..

That is very noble of you, but could you please go back to attacking th7s for loot? I am farming lavas and I'd like you to have more yourself when I come across your base :)

Big fish eat little fish, that's the circle of life. Once you hit th9 you're gonna be so happy when you stumble upon a juicy th8. I'm all for being a good samaritan and all, but loot is loot. If I can take it, I will take it.

Having an AD upgrading is indeed a huge weakness against th9 attacks. You can better upgrade them all 3 at once and be over with it asap. Once they're maxed they will at least stop the poor th9 attackers.

That being said...Deal with it. It is a war game and picking on the weak is the name of the game. I applaud you for taking the stance and not attacking lower townhalls but I find it hard to believe you wouldn't attacked a loaded inactive TH7 collector base. You should just be happy TH8 farming is some of the easiest and most abundant farming there is. Yes you will get crushed by TH9 but you will be able to farm far more then you could possibly lose.

I got smacked around by TH9 when I was TH8 and I happily smash any loaded TH8 I come across as a max TH9 working on heroes and lava and thus the circle of life continues...*cue lion king song*

If you expend extra gold on walks etc. Then you won't ever get attacked. Stop hoarding loot, even a max th10 is viable to get attacked if it has loot. That's the best advice you'll ever receive. If you're into hoarding, then save up right before a builder opens so that you can spend it while you're online.
Other then that nothing else will save you from a th9, that's how the game works lol.

Let's put it this way, it is IMPOSSIBLE to stop a half decent TH9 with lvl 6 troops, AQ and 2 spells from completely steamrolling your base even if you have COMPLETELY maxed TH8 defenses and lvl 8 walls. The only way they failed is that they made huge mistakes which isn't dependent on your base design nor defense levels.

But let me tell you a secret. What do most people hit you for? Loot. So if you have no loot, there is no reason to hit you. So if possible spend all your loot before you log off and put your town hall right at the corner, so that even if you're wrecked, you have nothing to lose

That is how the game works, I must admit, I enjoy picking on TH8's

TH8 is the crappiest TH in my eyes. I just bit on my teeth and pushed hard on TH8, finished all upgrades on TH8 in 3 months, and immediately moved to TH9. Defending on a TH8 is a pain

Posts 11 & 12 will help you in the mean time and in between time. truly the only effective thing you can possibly do.

I was in those same shoes on my alt. it frustrated me to no end. Instead of taking the noble road you seem to want to walk down...

I started doing Pushups (upgraded my TH)
Strength and Conditioning (Acquired AQ, Leveled Camps, LAB, SF)
and took a Self Defense TaeKwonDo course (Upgraded CC, acquired X-Bows, TH9 defensive turrets)

I felt like TH9 with low leveled defense turrets (TH8 or lower) with the higher ceiling of TH9 capacity; AQ, 220 Camp space, 4 Spell que, CC, Xbows.. 4th Tesla and WT etc... is much better position to be in than even MAX TH8 with L 10 BK only.

added to that opinion is the relevance of posts 11 & 12, it will serve the same function as it would in TH8. plus with the lower leveled turrets you can more easily acquire the loot for those turrets, while you get them leveled up to max 8 or so..

its something to think about.
I know I hated that hopeless sinking feeling I kept getting every time I got mauled by a TH9.
There is literally NOTHING you can do... well there is one thing "Take it" but from the OP sounds like you are at the end of that rope already.

so Posts 11, & 12, if you stat at 8 for any significant time, or this one:cool: if you decide to go up. fight back with better and stronger weapons I say!

Don't have loot for them to steal. Switch gears and start dumping gold into your walls. Yes... STOP upgrading defenses. The best defense against getting raided is having no loot to steal. Pump elixir and dark into your lab and don't offer the loot up.

And I suggest attacking wealthy TH7s, it's not being a bully, it's playing the game.

You're a new TH8 and any time you're new to a TH, you're at the most vulnerable, so it'll only get better. Until the next TH upgrade!

This is one thing nobody realises, rushing actually improves your defenses. But no, people keep telling me that I'll be wrecked because I rush. I wish I was wrecked more often, but nope, never happens

To add on, 4 storages, even with weaker defenses are easier to defend and protect

Why not attack lower town halls then you if they have loot? It's how the game works and how to get loot easier. If you don't want to take advantage of being able to take tons of loot from a th level below you then your just putting yourself at a disadvantage. It's not bullying it's how the game works and how supercell wants it to be. Also I'm a mid town hall 8 also and there's no way for any town hall 8 to stop a town hall 9 from getting your loot unless that person has no idea what he's doing. Try to put your town hall outside with no traps around it to try to minimize the amount of full out attacks on your base. As a mid town hall I found out that elixir is easily the easiest resource to get and keep stored up. When it comes to dark elixir and gold your gonna get attacked for it if you have a lot. What league are you in? Try gold 3, that's where I've had some success recently. If your in silver I recommend going up a league. Some of the more powerful players hang out there now I think. If your in masters then drop to at least crystal 3. If your in crystal then drop to gold. If you refuse to attack any people with a lower town hall then you how do you suppose to get loot as a new person to that town hall level. When you get to town hall 9 are you gonna only attack town hall 9's with only town hall 8 troops still? Good luck succeeding that way. Also I wouldn't call something like a higher town hall then you attacking you inflicting trauma or virtual bullying. Once again it's how the game works and how it's played. Anyways if you keep doing what your doing then that's fine but attacking any base that has a lot of loot that you can take is the smart way to go and the easiest way and most efficient way.

TL;DR

When you're a th9 you will rely on th8s to get all your elixer. Understand the food chain. You will be there one day and all will be fine.

Thats what the loot penalty is for btw

We all had to suffer through the "bullying" from TH9's while getting our bases up to snuff. There is a huge difference in offensive capability from 8 to 9. It's crappy but it'll pass. When you get to TH9 I guarantee you will absolutely bomb on TH8's to get the vast amount of loot needed for the multitude of upgrades. hang in there man and clan on!

TH in corner is the best defense/easiest you can get. And the higher the trophies you have the better it becomes.

So assuming you have TH in corner, also put some decorations around it (so that attacker knows it isnt trapped) and then start climbing trophies. I purposely kept all my storages full as a late TH8 (just for the lulz). I even stopped attacking altogether. Did my resources went down? LOL, no. They kept going up, I was upgrading skulls with loot from mines while having all storages maxed. Ridiculous huh?

The higher trophies you have the safer your resources will be (well, up to a point). In master 3 my loot was extremely safe, with 9/10 attacks taking only TH. There are tons of other TH8 in higher leagues desperately looking for TH snipes, so the odds of getting a snipe only are extremely high.

At one point I even started accumulating loot in collectors as well, just to test how far I could go before getting base flattened. I got TH snipes while offering 500k loot each! XD

Also, the league bonus will help you keep to your promise of "not attack lower TH" far more easily. With 100k/100k/500 loot bonus it is far easier to spend 200k elix and 1k DE armies and still make profits.

Get used to it. We all dealt with it.

I feel your pain. In my humble opinion, TH8 was the most difficult of all. Exactly as you describe and I as well made the oath of no bullying lower THs ( no need to with the number of amateur 9s floating around having the skill and IQ lower than an aardvark during mating season)

Stick with your 8 all the way through and you'll be going to TH9 with more skill and higher advanced base than the vast majority of 9s.

Design a base with lures, traps, snares, tricks. Remember to utilize your giant killers...cannon and archers...develop kill zones and ways to lure giants etc into. Skull walls help as do skeletons.

And develop a strategy to knock off mid developed and below 9s. towards the end of my 8, I enjoyed attacking 9s...almost entirely.

It can be done....and by the "sound" of your post, you one who will do.it

Isn't it already accepted that strategic rushing is the best? But then again strategic rushing is only valid if you can put in the time and attack a lot. Like in your case right?

You want to see why people say rushing is bad? Click next a few times when you are searching for loot and watch all the th9 and th10's with bad walls and weak defences. They are the rushers that gets wrecked.

I would say that it is a very big gap between TH9 and TH10. As for firepower, it is much easier for a TH8 to 2 star a TH9 compared to a TH9 trying to 2 star a TH10 with Infernos. And the main reason for this is simply, as a TH9, you can't use Heal Spells on a TH10 with Multi Infernos and of course you have no access to Freeze.

At least you can gowipe them. TH9 have no way of retaliating against TH10, full stop.

In this game as you progress forward, tides turn. I mean for example before DE zapping was gone, as a TH7 people would zap TH10's DE. But when they get up to Town Hall 10 suddenly they get caught up with new TH7s zapping their DE.
Same with attacking. Soon enough you will be TH9 with powerful troops that can destroy TH8s, but TH10 will make short work of you. But after you finish that, you get to be Town Hall 10 and wreck TH9s for all their loot. You just have to hold on and try to move up the chain. Sure enough TH9-10 can wreck lower Town Halls but this power comes at a price - they have to pay massive amounts of resources to access these maxed troops and defenses. Also for them, finding loot is much harder than at TH7 and 8.
Its just how the game works, its like a chain. You just have to accept that the only way to stop being attacked by TH9s is to accept it and move up.

It's what all, or at least a good majority, of high lv. have went through too. We were also TH 8 once, always getting crushed by lv.6 giants and AQ and all that jazz. I remember being far into my lv. 8 walls and feeling invincible, only to have a TH 9 with basic barch and high lv. heroes stomp thrugh my base with the helps of a few heals and a jump. That's just how the game is, how it's designed. You start at the bottom of the food chain, then work your way up. I'm rarely attacked anymore and I stomp all over TH 8's from time to time, but I'm just trying to enjoy the fruits of my labor because I went through the exact same thing you're going through. You'll just have to grit your teeth and take it. This is just my opinion, but anyways, I wish you the best of luck, don't give up! You'll get raided and you'll be angry sometimes, wondering why they used such a powerful army on you instead of someone else, but you can do it, I believe in you. :D

I virtually eliminated raids at THe by following a few simple strategies, some of which have already been mentioned.

1. I got 5 builders at TH7. This enabled me to get my early TH8 up and running and improve new defenses rapidly.

2. After early upgrades were complete I settled into a 2-part upgrade plan. The first assigned one builder to the BK, one to barracks, one to ADs and one to mortars. This left a builder free to build walls with extra gold. When mortars were done I switched to WTs.

3. After the BK reached lvl 10 I moved his builder to defense upgrades. I never had more than 3 defenses upgrading at once. This kept my defenses relatively effective at all times. Again I had a builder free to burn excess gold on walls.

As a result I had all skulls several weeks prior to achieving TH9. And since I never had excess gold I never got raided, unless elixir accumulated.

Too funny. Th8's are the worst offenders for trapping their th's and you know what they say about karma.

TH8 was my worst time. However I found a strat that worked well for me.

I went up to gold 1/crystal 3 and put my town hall outside. Leaving your TH outside at a lower trophy range often means little as people are down there for the loot. Many people are traveling up and down via gold1 so a TH outside meant I got sniped about 80% of the time.

I had the luxury of boosting also so get about 2 mill gold/elix and then boost your way to an upgrade.

You have to raid a TH lower, otherwise it takes too long.

If you were unaware

Raid the same or higher level than your TH and you get 100% loot
Raid a TH 1 level lower and you get 90%
Raid a TH2 levels lower and you get 50%
Raid a H 3 level lower and you get 25%

So yes Supercell have thought about it and is a very good reason to max stuff before going up a TH and also the reason you do not see many TH10 attack you.

Just upgrade th7 to the max and you would have been sorted

Defense-wise TH8s are more hopeless defending against their natural predator than 9s. But yeah, TH8s can definitely and easily 2 max TH9s.

OP, you are going about it wrong. At TH8, yes, you get bullied, but the loot will never be as easy for you as it is now. That's because you don't need a lot of dark elixir, so you can hang out in lower leagues and feast off of the TH7 and TH8 collector bases. When I was TH8 a year ago, hanging out in Gold I or II, I got two million-loot raids in the same week. Now as a TH9, I hang out in Crystal for the d.e., and I can go for four months or more without scoring a million loot in a single raid. The loot will get harder for you at higher TH levels, so you should be feasting on those TH7s.

Don't worry about getting raided -- that is what keeps the Clash economy going. If you are active, you should have no problem farming for 2 million loot per day. So if you lose 400K to attackers, what's the problem?

Also as others have pointed out, if you have at least four builders, you should put any extra gold into walls before you log off. (If you don't have four builders yet, start saving those gems.)

nailed it pretty well.

I do the same way, I don't care for the TH level, if theres a nice amount of reachable loot I take whatever I can.
Doesn't matter if I meet a rushed T10, a maxed T7 or an almost equal. Easy good loot, just mine.

Been pushing with late T8, got smashed every attack above Crystal 1, no chance to save any loot, also I got matched against mid T9s and T10 mostly on attacks.

Stayed at Crystal 3 most time with an alltime overflow.
So even if the matchmaking should not include trophys that heavy, somehow it does.


Knowing what TO talks about, back when I started T8 I got smashed a lot too, I decided to focus on splashers to defend against most farming combos, low HP and mass.
Followed by walls and traps, single targets last.
Qued in ADs for war reasons.

I'm TH 8, I spend what I gain if I can otherwise I avoid filling my storages to such a level that I become a worthwhile target. I also time my raiding sessions to when a builder is about to become free so I'd gain what I need plus extra to cover what I might lose if I'm 3 starred. I time it so if I'm 3 starred a builder will have finished a job before the my free shield runs out.

If you plan your builders right, there's basically no reason to have any gold/lix to steal.

Now de, that was fun to protect... saving tens of thousands to have the aq snipe it off was frustrating, but stick with the golden rule, loot more than youd lose then log off, stick your th in a corner with decor around it.

When you're th9, beating up on juicy th8s, I expect to see an apology thread for all the 8s you're bullying.

I am max TH8, and 4 out of the 39 defenses (log goes back 11 days) are actual attacks, the rest are snipes.

I've been sitting at over 5 million elixir for over 2 weeks. Same with dark - sitting at 46k and that is after spending 30k to upgrade EQ spell to level 2.

I've been at Crystal 3 for a while, and the snipes are almost instantaneous. I break my shield pretty often just to do pointless raids.

I finished my walls last week and just finished my little bombs, so I've been gold poor. Will soon have enough gold that I imagine I'll be a viable target for people to attack.

Just keep at it. In a few months, you will be the TH9 that keeps harassing TH8s.

Doesn't matter how you plan your builders. At TH7 & TH8, any highly active player will be on max elixir most of the time.

My TH8 defense log goes back 20d 3h 4m.

All snipes except for 3 full on pummelings by TH9s, been hangin out in G1.
A few more attempts at rolling me, but CC troops saved the day.
Not too bad IMO.

What layout do you use?

Don't worry, I smash th9s for you. Same as you as a th8 smash 7s and 7s smash 6s. Do you get it yet?

lol....was never at max elixir at TH8 until I maxed everything out.

You know, I keep hearing people say that there is all this excess elixir at TH8 - there are 4 barracks to upgrade, valks and golems to unlock, every troop to upgrade, spells to upgrade, gold storage to upgrade, and 2nd dark drill to build and upgrade. Basically there are only 2 things that don't get upgraded at TH8 (camps and spell factory).

TH8 elixir costs are just over 67 million!

I don't know, maybe I'm doing something wrong. I'm pretty active, and I've done it on 4 accounts and have never been at max elixir until the very end.

I feel sorry for you. But most likely when you get to town hall 9, you will be doing the same thing. It's the food chain.

Okay. I'm th8.5. What trophy range do u think I'll get raided n not sniped the most? Really wanna try out my base designs.

Btw, yeah as a starting th8 you can do nothing about getting smashed to the ground. Plus wait till th9 with their AQ get all your DE. I had to wait 2 weeks to store 35k DE. But ill agree I was hanging out at Crystal 3 with my th8 inside my base when that happened

TH7s bully TH6s, 8s bully 7s, 9s bully 8s, 10s bully 9s. I see no issue here?

I am a fairly new TH8, so I am upgrading my Mortars, Wizard Towers, and especially Air Defenses. Although I only upgrade one Air Defense at a time, I assume this is enough of a weakness for a TH9 rocking Giant-Healer to come along and stomp my base — maybe if I stop upgrading Air Defenses Giant-Healer will be kept away? I don’t know.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

And I don’t know how helpful this information is, but I’ve dealt with this as a TH7, where TH8s would come along and bully me for my lunch money, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as now. While I was TH7, only three TH8s harassed me, while at TH8 I’ve had 20 TH9s come and harass me.

(A little note: as a result of suffering this trauma, I vowed never to attack anyone with a lower Town Hall than me, and only picking on people my own size. I don’t want anyone else to suffer what I suffered, and I especially don’t want to be the bully and inflict such trauma on them.)

But in the end, Clash of Clans is just a game, and I won’t get too upset if I just have to deal with this for the rest of my TH8 career. Though it certainly is annoying to the extreme.

As you are a th8 you have only experienced one side so naturally your viewpoint might be a bit biased and skewed.........

When I was a TH8 it was incredibly frustrating how a TH9 was able to come in and take my loot uncontested.

The Archer Queen and beastly Level 6 Giants were the most frustrating to me, if the AQ was level 5 or higher she would suck twice as much.

To a lesser degree Level 6 Barch, the Jump Spell and being able to hold 4 Spells make it that much harder, the Level 6 Archers won't get 1 Shotted by your Mortars unless they are maxed I think. Barbs are meatier. Jump Spell guides them right to your DE Storage.

Xbows, AQ, another Wizard Tower, Tesla (if l7 esp) are especially hard to deal with when attacking a th9 with Barch or BAM, even GiBarch won't cut it sometimes.

Bases I skip unless there is close to 100k in each gold and elixir storage (so 700-800k total loot.) Are bases w spread out storages in 4 corners with a Wizard Tower defending 1 Gold and 1 Elixir Storage each.......

You could change your setup so each WT guards a Gold and Elixir Storage?

Also try not to keep a ton of loot on hand, that will help too.

Wizard Towers are the best defences against Barch,Bam, farming attacks since they attack multiplier troops at once fast doing decent DPS to kill them in a few shots.


TIP: WTs can only attack Ground OR Air troops each shot, no both. So if you deploy a flying troop like Minions while the WT is locked on to your Barbs the Minions can take it down without it shooting them down in 2-3 shots.

When you are th9 you will see that it's way harder to find loot, attacking th8s is pretty much your bread and butter. But

Wizard Towers will be your best friend in this problem good luck.

Well it did suck at early th8 for me(I had rushed to th8 even having a lvl1 and 3 air def with pink walls:saywhat:). but i learnt the game there. I say th8 is the turning point of the game, what you do and learn at th8 will make you either a successful player or one of the many terrible players thats out there.

Spent 8 months fixing that th rush so i remember my th8 time well.
Only time i started getting good was when i had all purple walls and a few skulls and mostly maxed defences.
You can defend against the early and mid th9s taking all your loot but you have to be prepared to lose up to 50% loot and maybe your de if you collect all 3 resources.
I often kept my loot as low as possible, my th outside(too low in trophy range and no one wants to th snipe)

Remember you can only defend based on what you have and your setup becomes key. You have 3 gold and elixir storages each, so you want to defend in a triangular direction. I used a good side funneling southern teaser(core completely open) with the base pushed to the top of the map to get the 3 sides. You can only defend against a certain main troop like giants. The top was too close to land a healer out of range of the air defs (All barch attacks failed just because of the sides teslas eating too much troops and if they tried numbers it was backed by a mortar. Use good funneling to direct giants away from your core, this gives any centre single target defence a chance to fire back against a queen.

If you try to defend against all troops, you will defend none:facepalm:. Maybe one dgb set near the core for hogs, then the common gihe barch. If someone wants to farm with dragons(good luck to them if you have lvl6 air defs) or a golem type army or something, then dont worry, just look at the cost of his army vs what he took.

When you uprgading a certain type of building, do all 3 or 4 at once if you can. Grit your teeth and the few days without your favourite buildings will be over in no time.

I never got 3 starred by a th9, staying between gold3 and gold1.

I miss the simplicity of th8 though (maxed th9 with legos now; you can find me on the th10 menu:D)
