Virtual Bullies (To clarify I am talking about TH9s relentlessly picking on TH8s)

I am currently TH8, and a problem I have been suffering from is the fact that TH9s relentlessly attack me when I’m offline minding my own business, 3-star my base, and leave afterwards, taking several trophies and some of my hard-earned money with them.

Given the fact that this has been a part of the game so long, I have faith in Supercell that this is a balanced part of gameplay, or else they would have done something about it. That being said, there should be some way to stop these bullies from stealing my lunch money – or do I just grit my teeth and bear it?

And that leads me to a roadblock, which is: how do I deal with them? Revenging seems infeasible; lots of them have good base layouts that would be difficult, if not impossible, for me to reclaim my stolen money. And even if I could do the job, they're shielded most of the time – they’re farmers like me, rocking outside Town Halls. Don’t forget the fact that revenging one TH9 will not stop others from pillaging my village.
I am a fairly new TH8, so I am upgrading my Mortars, Wizard Towers, and especially Air Defenses. Although I only upgrade one Air Defense at a time, I assume this is enough of a weakness for a TH9 rocking Giant-Healer to come along and stomp my base — maybe if I stop upgrading Air Defenses Giant-Healer will be kept away? I don’t know.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

And I don’t know how helpful this information is, but I’ve dealt with this as a TH7, where TH8s would come along and bully me for my lunch money, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as now. While I was TH7, only three TH8s harassed me, while at TH8 I’ve had 20 TH9s come and harass me.

(A little note: as a result of suffering this trauma, I vowed never to attack anyone with a lower Town Hall than me, and only picking on people my own size. I don’t want anyone else to suffer what I suffered, and I especially don’t want to be the bully and inflict such trauma on them.)

But in the end, Clash of Clans is just a game, and I won’t get too upset if I just have to deal with this for the rest of my TH8 career. Though it certainly is annoying to the extreme.

That's just how the game works. You always go after weaker bases to take their loot and trophies.
As a TH9, I definitely look for TH8s to attack. Especially if the collectors are full.
A couple of suggestions if the action is getting too hot for you-
Set your TH out in a corner. Give it up. Accept the loss of only a couple trophies and the subsequent free shield you get. The loot loss is minimal and if you play in extended sessions, the trophy loss is negligible as well.
But, do not set up traps (bombs, teslas, etc) around your TH. that's just going to make players mad and you will be back to getting 3-starred again. It will also cost you a lot more loot.

Drop down in trophy levels. If you are in Crystal, drop back down to Gold. If you're in Gold, drop down to Silver. See if the action is a little more to your liking in a different trophy level.

Use up all of your resources before logging off. Those big, bright pink elixir storages act like a giant billboard screaming "RAID ME AND TAKE MY LOOT!!" Burn off everything you can. Build walls. Upgrade troops. Cook up high value troops in your barracks, even if you don't plan to use them. Anything to make your loot levels lower.

TH8s are definitely very handicapped at defense. The offense at TH9 is overly superior to TH8 defense with an extra 20 camp space, queen, more hero levels and extra 5 units in the CC- don't expect to ever properly defend against half-decent TH9s.

Instead, focus on evasion. Place your TH in the corner of the map, completely unprotected and surround it with decorations. Keep a builder free for loot dumps into walls and keep your storages empty when offline as much as possible.

TH8 wasn't too enjoyable in terms of base building and defense, so the best solution is to avoid TH9s altogether.

One does not simply avoid TH9 :smirk: Same goes for TH10. We can't help it if we get rekt by TH10. And we can't retaliate also. We have nuts to stop that inferno. :smirk:

But the gap between TH9 and TH10 is nothing between 8 and 9. The increase in firepower is by far way too overpowered for TH8s to prevent.

As a TH8, you will never defend against a TH9. Against a TH9 that knows what it's doing..

That is very noble of you, but could you please go back to attacking th7s for loot? I am farming lavas and I'd like you to have more yourself when I come across your base :)

Big fish eat little fish, that's the circle of life. Once you hit th9 you're gonna be so happy when you stumble upon a juicy th8. I'm all for being a good samaritan and all, but loot is loot. If I can take it, I will take it.

Having an AD upgrading is indeed a huge weakness against th9 attacks. You can better upgrade them all 3 at once and be over with it asap. Once they're maxed they will at least stop the poor th9 attackers.

That being said...Deal with it. It is a war game and picking on the weak is the name of the game. I applaud you for taking the stance and not attacking lower townhalls but I find it hard to believe you wouldn't attacked a loaded inactive TH7 collector base. You should just be happy TH8 farming is some of the easiest and most abundant farming there is. Yes you will get crushed by TH9 but you will be able to farm far more then you could possibly lose.

I got smacked around by TH9 when I was TH8 and I happily smash any loaded TH8 I come across as a max TH9 working on heroes and lava and thus the circle of life continues...*cue lion king song*
