I'm a th9 and I use two healers in my farming army and they work out just fine with lvl6 giants and/or my AQ. I'm unusual in that I use two valks too. I just rock along while people diss healers and valks. I love them.
For lower TH levels the giant/healer strategy is pretty solid, and healers are pretty decent as a whole, no matter what composition you're running, however later TH's such as TH8 you're better off using the heal spells, due to the increased number of air defense & newly added air sweepers. These beefier anti-air raid bases makes healers extremely vulnerable. And just a side note, although healers can heal any single troop for an unlimited amount of time, and the heal spells have a fixed time on them (increases with level) the heal spell also has a much bigger radius and can heal a larger amount of troops. Although it really comes down to preference, that's just mine.
Max healers have become a huge part of both war attacking and farming for th9s and 10s. Max healers on high lvl Queens make for a deadly queen walk. Queller raids are amazing for farming de. Look up these strategies and you will forsure be maxing your healers

I can only speak for myself that I don't use healers in my army, and I have only used healer once for almost 3 years. They wouldn't last for 3 seconds give or take if you don't know how to use it.
