Is TH8.5 Useless?

How are you at a disadvantage? Your base carries the weight of a base with a full th below you. Therefore your mirror will be "weaker". You have all the troop capabilities of a th9. Therefore your mirror would be at a "disadvantage".

In other words, it's the equivalent of the big muscular jock kicking sand in the smaller nerdy guy's face. Or whatever other expression you would prefer.

Going into battle with weaker defenses:
1. Is dumb as well as selfish
2. Puts your clan at a disadvantage
3. Is unnecessary

If you have a weaker base then odds are you will be 3 starred. So the absolute best you can hope for is that you 3 star someone. Thereby cancelling yourself out. How is that brave? You've rendered yourself a liability or useless to your clan.

It boils down to this: you want to be able to get 3 stars and pad your war hero stats but you don't want to actually earn them against an equal or better base. This is by definition..... wait for it..... wait for it...... COWARDLY! :thumbsup:

Ok. Let me settle this argument once and for all.

Town hall 8.5 is not useless. Being an 8.5 allows you to upgrade your attacking power so you are CAPABLE of 3 starring a town hall 9 with xbows. Xbows are weighted enourmously. If you get your xbows first, you would not be able to 3* your equal in war, and you would be a hinderance to your clan. The time you spend at 8.5 is a personal preference. Once you upgrade your troops enough and you feel comfortable with 3 starring a th9 with xbows, go right ahead, build away.

If that doesn't make sense, here's an example:

Building xbows before upgrading at least one war troop is basically equivalent to racing in a Nascar race with a bicycle. You need to have the troops (read as 'car' in this example) to even consider competing at that level, not to mention the skill and practice.

Off>def thats the point. When it comes to match ups my th10 gets matched up against an opponent with lvl1 infernos but weak other defenses so i crush him. Actually it's the other th10 in my clan. I'm still matched up against th9.
People like to call unfair match ups all the time but those who know how to use the system to their advantage. I bet those complaining do the same. Do you hit next when farming? Why? To get an easier opponent or more loot. If you want things fair take the 1st opponent who comes or use the system to your advantage. Just like clan wars.
its not an unfair advantage we just choose to play the game differently. Btw if everyone did the .5 method it would be even again.
Its a game stop crying foul when the cards don't go to your way.

Comparing farming to war is like comparing a monkey to a carrot. You farm for loot and you war for glory. Hollow victories mean nothing.

The main point of 8.5 is to have th8 defense BUT th9 offense, that mean that you will get matched against maxed th8 or newbies th9s... And you will be able to wreck both...even you can take out strong th9s...

People seem to be both arguing against TH8.5 on the grounds that an 8.5 will be matched against a TH9 anyway, so will be at a disadvantage. And also arguing the defence weight of an 8.5 is the same as a max TH8, but you have weaker troops, so you have a huge advantage and that's cowardly.

I think the anti-TH8.5 brigade need to make up their minds whether it is an unfair advantage, or a stupid disadvantage.

Where did I say I was at a disadvantage? I only said the defenses will be weaker. Knowing I have a weak base and still participating in war is courageous.

1. incorrect. I selflessly sacrifice my base and resources by having weaker defenses, for the benefit of the clan. Very smart strategy.
2. incorrect. If the th.5 strategy puts the clan at a disadvantage people wouldn't be whining about it on the internet.
3. correct. It's not necessary. But it's an effective strategy and worth pursuing.

With a weaker base odds are pretty good I will be 3 starred. Most th8s get 3 starred in wars. Sometimes the th9s have to come down to help clean up the th8s. Is that unfair?

The absolute best I can hope for is actually 3 starring two bases, because we each get two attacks. Since they can only get 3 stars out of my base, and if I can get 6 stars from their bases, I am not canceled out. If I fail both my attacks I'm not helping the clan. It's brave to do this because if you don't succeed your clan will be at a disadvantage.

You can't claim it puts my clan at a disadvantage while also complaining it's cowardly. Because it's not. It's brave.

Why are you comparing real life to a game? Especially a game where we constantly attack others.
Am i gonna feel bad when i raid that th8 because they had 300k of Gold and Elixir their base? NOPE.
Seems IRRELEVANT to the topic imo /you're not bullying a base....
The advantage of 8.5 is being able to attack BELOW YOU, ABOVE YOU and ACROSS FROM YOU.
Even if you get 3 *ed you can still pull through and potentially get 6 stars from your clan, so technically you're not really cancelling yourself out.

How can you possibly say sacrificing your base to the opponent is a good startegy???

1. You don't lose resources during war attacks. And you haven't spent any on the defenses. You then give the opponent an easy 3 star attack; allowing them to "save"an extra attack to focus elsewhere. How can you sit there and claim selflessness. You've literally done NOTHING to help your clan here.

2. People whine about EVERYTHING. Just because someone complains about it doesn't make it a viable strategy. For example, I've seen several posts complaining they can't spend elixir on walls at th8. Anyone who remembers when you could also remembers how badly it screwed up the economy.

3. By definition of being cowardly, you put your clan at a disadvantage so i can absolutely claim both at once.

By making more than 1 th8 attack your base and possibly a th9 having to clean it up. You have helped your clan by wasting enemy attacks. By giving them 3 stars on the first try you have, for all intents and purposes, helped your opponent. Selfless is not a word I'd use to describe that.....

Sacrificing the base outside of war. It's easier to loot a th.5 base. I get looted all the time. Not a big deal, farming makes up for it, but it's still a sacrifice. Some might call it a heroic sacrifice. But I just call it a sacrifice.

If you think the th.5 bases always get 3 starred on their first try, you're wrong, again. Just like that time you incorrectly said th.5s aren't a viable strategy. Wrong. And the time you said it puts the clan at a disadvantage. Wrong.

WHOA?! So it's okay for a big bully th9 to clean up a th8? But what about the jocks kicking sand in the nerds face thing? Isn't that cowardice, by your definition? You aren't being consistent in your arguments.
