GOWIPE won't three star a max 8 that knows how to defend, much less adding a queen and both Xbows
Regardless, I don't know why anyone debates this. Lower war weight for higher offense is good.

8.5s attract max th8s 90% of the time.
Lol seeing my thread pop up a week later was unexpected.
Anyway guys thanks for your answers!
Not to TC, but does TH6.5 or 7.5 makes sense for clan wars?
If yes, what to avoid at TH7 or 8 to make such a .5 base. Thanks.
6.5 maybe makes some sense, if you can do massdrag attacks weighting like a TH6...
7.5 too if you get golems/pekkas/hogs up...
But they will get 3 starred by TH6s and TH7s. Different from 8.5 that may not be 3 starred by other TH8s (because queen defending, and much new traps)
No.
For wars it does make sense to rush to TH7 for dragons and three spells, but I don't think there's any ".5' thing for that. It's just rushing to TH7 for dragons. Upgrading anything and everything as you please, with the emphasis being access to dragons for war as quickly as possible.
8.5 is a thing because xbows have a pretty heavy war weight, substantially heavier than any other defense you've had to that point, but don't necessarily add all that much to your actual defensive ability (particularly at lvl1). But you get a major offensive boost with TH9 in the extra 20 camp spaces, 5 CC spaces (allowing max golem or hound in CC), another spell, and archer queen (as well as tons of levels to the BK), and of course the troop upgrades and access to every troop type in the game
There is nothing like that at TH8. You don't get another spell or spell slot, you don't get any camp upgrades, and the troops you gain access to aren't exactly critical to any kind of 3* strategy. And no defense that adds major weight like the xbow. Sure you can get lvl5 heal and lvl4 hogs at TH8, but whole .5 thing just isn't really there until 8.5.
And then 9.5 is because you get CC upgrade, spell factory upgrade, camp upgrades...and infernos are a huge deal with massive war weight.
