Is TH8.5 Useless?

I decided it was time to throw down everything I could except the xbows to see how that affected my matchups. It made no difference - I was still getting paired up with either rushed TH10s or TH9s that were at least somewhat ahead of me. At the same time, my base was desperately needing those Xbows to counter the AQs I was now having to deal with to try and keep my opponent from 2-starring me. I said screw it, and I put both Xbows down.

It made no difference. Exact same kinds of matchups, except now, I was defending better. I kept note of my "war weight" throughout the process, and before going to TH9, I was at 58. After going to TH9 with AQ and Spells, I was at 60. After putting all towers and xbows down, I'm at 62. My opponents through the entire process have been 62-66.

You rushed both offense and defense...that is bad. That isn't a premmie, that isn't an 8.5, that isn't smart, that's just plain rushed.

And for the love of god people please learn that no one base is matches with any other particular base.

YOU don't get matched to another base.

YOU do not get matched to another base.

Your clan is matched to another clan.

Your clan is matched to another clan.

I think TH8.5 is useless, why stop the development of your own base just for clan war, I'd rather just keep building my defense instead of letting my builders stay idle when they could be building defense,
I've heard of people building and cancelling xbows to get rid of the extra gold because they don't wanna build defense.

Because for some people the primary focus of the game is war. You can keep the builders going for a little while since they have to do the camps, drills, spell factory, lab, CC, traps, probably new AD, new gold storage, new elixir storage, archer queen, dark spell factory, both dark barracks, and upgrade DE storage. I think if you do it right and gain offensive skill/experience quickly enough, you can avoid idle builders.

I have never been close to having idle builders, personally, and I did 8.5 + am now doing 9.5.

Some people do choose to take it to an extreme and practically live at 8.5 when they have everything else finished and have made significant offensive progress, but I don't think that was the original intention or the main point of it.

You've seen people with all 250 lava walls and no xbows yet? Can't say I've witnessed such a thing myself. That's kind of nuts.

Personally I'm going to build the XBOWS ASAP at TH9 because they are good to protect against farming attacks and loot raids.

Every single super good wars clans do it like onehive, isn't that enough to prove it does something?

The thing with lower defences and higher th levels is ••••

When I was a max th8, the mirror match in war was usually a th9 with both xbows and I still 2-3 starred them with gowipe

Also, we have a rushed th10 with th8 defences but max troops, and the mirror match was usually max th9 defenses w/ infernos and sometimes even mid th10 defences (level 12 ATs and cannons)
