Beginner's Guide/Tips?

I've started playing hay day last night. I am currently lv 11. Anything I should be doing or shouldn't be doing? Any other tips are welcome.

here some tips from me:
1.never sell crops at their full prices
2.always use free ads when available, pay attention to the countdown
3.use your diamonds to open slot in roadside shop
4.don't buy decorations (plants, dogs, cats, horses, etc), if you're still having problem with getting coin, you can use the mail box to get free decorations if you're lucky
5.you can thrash the truck orders (touch the thrash icon) if you can't/don't want do the orders

I think PP was suggesting that if you help people with their boats or fixing up their wilted trees/bushes, you get thank you letters, which are delivered to the blue mail box. Get enough thank you letters and you can exchange them for a package, which often contains decorations.

you will get the gift cards after doing these:

-you can help others revive their bushes and trees, just look for bouncing trees or bushes that has ! sign
-help others filling their boat orders, you can see the orders if you touch the boat and the owner has requested help, if not you won't be able to see inside the boat
don't force yourself to do this boat orders, if you're having trouble with your own truck/boat orders, just help yourself first :rolleyes:
if the ones you helped already sent the thanks cards, then next day you will receive these thanks cards in your mail box, if you're lucky you will get a gift card inside these thanks cards, if not don't sweat it just keep helping others as you can :o

ps:usually i only receive 4-8 max gift cards after helping tens people :eek:

If you can read the guide that was suggested to you kindly by Lisa, It contains link to the postman guide, Which very thoroughly explains how the system works and how the last gift package is usually a decoration package which changes, sometimes offering a tractor, sometimes not.

I thought you guys were talking about the mailbox with the newspaper in it. As I've said, I saw those guides and they weren't what I was looking for since I haven't unlocked many things including the postman mailbox.

My tips & tricks :
1. Have selfcontrol in planting & harvesing trees & bushes otherwise you'll end up with alot dead trees unlees its part of your deco
2. Fill your barn & silo with items you cant buy from newspaper
3. Do your boat orders and help filling people's boat as many as possible until you reach 15.000 boat score, you'll get 50 diamonds as a reward for completing the final challenge
4. Visit people farms as many as possible, find the mystery boxes, you'll get that 5 free diamonds eventually
4. If you have 100 diamonds to hire tom, keep asking Tom to find 9 shovels every 2 hours, save the shovels until you have 27+ shovels than use all of them to mine the ores and get 6-11 free diamonds - more if you lucky. I get 100 diamonds in 5 days means i got 100 diamonds back and i still have tom for 5 days for free - tell him to find only for shovels for extra diamonds and ring/necklace/bracelet for vouchers - you'll get golden vouchers from blue truck orders if you're lucky
5. Find your own way to make this game fun for your own pleasure and suit your time and energy. You cant have everything overnight.


Well basicly its all depends what do you want for your farm and how you play this game.

i dont have the luxury of diamonds like you do, so i can only afford to hire tom occasionally by the day, which is 15 diamonds, plus its too stressful to get him to fetch stuff every two hours so i do not like to hire him often lol

I wouldn't recommend to buy slots in the roadside shop with diamonds - unless of course it was a priority to someone. Adding friends trough game center also gives you more slots in your shop, and you don't need to pay for them. In the beginning of the game I would recommend to use your diamonds to expand your queue on you machines, especially the dairy and sugar machines. This would give you more production in the time you're inactive. When you come back to your game you have more stuff that you need and also more stuff to sell.

It is of course easier to sell crops with low prices, but if you want to earn coins I would suggest to sell them full priced. High lvl players who need them is going to buy them anyway, since coins is not really an issue later in the game. I mean fast-growing crops, like wheat, corn, soybeans. I would not suggest to sell strawberrys for instance at full price. But you'll find out what you think is best of course.

This is an excellent answer- I totally agree with this, especially about using diamonds to open more production slots as opposed to roadside shop- which I did once and regretted.
