The update didn't really help me or hurt me.
I rarely got zapped - maybe once a month or so. I admit that I would occasionally zap de if I was a couple thousand short on a hero upgrade but I didn't rely on zapping.

I rarely got zapped - maybe once a month or so. I admit that I would occasionally zap de if I was a couple thousand short on a hero upgrade but I didn't rely on zapping.
And I have zapped in every single league. What I'm saying is that zapping was no longer a problem once you entered a trophy threshold where an easy TH snipe win for the league bonus is valued higher than the value of staying low to farm gold/elixir and get the occasional zap and surrender. That starts happening in high gold, but is essentially guaranteed come Crystal 2, when you're offering up decent gold/elixir plus a respectable amount of DE in the win bonus.
Would you say that the principle of the game is to purposefully lose all your battles? B/c there is no incentive to protecting your TH, as all it does is open you up to hemorrhaging loot as well as being crushed for 2 stars, vs the guaranteed TH snipe and End Battle, especially up in higher leagues. No, it's clearly not. So I hope you understand when I say that I'm not going to sit here and try to be told what the principles of the game are when it's so fundamentally flawed in the first place, on a global scale.
Try telling the community that TH sniping should be fixed. Go ahead and see what kind of reaction you get on the forums, lol.
P.S. And I'll let you in on a little hint: the same people who will viciously fight you on preserving TH sniping, are the exact same people who will also defend tooth and nail the decision to remove zapping, under this "doesn't abide by the principles of the game" excuse. It's completely hypocritical, but then again, most of the people you're dealing with on this forum don't like to think beyond Step 1, anyway.
And I think those are great ideas, actually. Dahimi, who used to post in here, offered up ideas like increased collector output, faster troop/spell cook times, etc. Things that would incentivise players to want to farm in all leagues, as there would be benefits up in higher leagues that to some, might outweigh the dead base hits down in silver/gold.
Here's the problem: Supercell isn't interested in any of that.
What they do instead is just babyproof the game; giving near maxed bases zero reason not to chill in an loot-free climate down in silver/gold now, with easy access to farming bases. Both the new matchmaking update and removal of zapping reinforced this behavior. How are we supposed to expect Supercell to come up with actual creative solutions that would encourage people to farm in higher leagues when the updates they release do exactly the opposite?
Removal of zapping made top bases unlootable in low leagues, and the new matchmaking update removed the main problem that those TH10s had down in silver/gold, which was Nexting over all the TH5-7s WHO BELONGED THERE, so that they could hit underdeveloped TH9/10s that resided there as their bases also couldn't push up to higher leagues. Are you going to try and tell me now that the matchmaking update was a good idea too, when that problem was also easily solved by simply farming up in trophy ranges where most bases within your TH level resided? Players want the easy dead base collectors and underdeveloped THs who rushed, but aren't willing to deal with the cost of Nexting through all the other bases that everyone would expect to also reside there. Same situation with the DE zapping: they want the fast gold/elixir, but they don't want the consequences of getting zapped and not shielded, when they should know all too well that the trophy range they're farming in provides little to no incentive to ensure a victory after the act. It's babyproofing the game.
You can sit here and try and find ways to debunk what I just clearly laid out before you--b/c it's clear you're already dug in against whatever I say at this point and more invested in me backing down rather than see the causes (and solutions) to these problems--but these are all facts.
First of all, I do know how to attack. Guess what I did after this garbage update was released? Dropped down from champs to low gold and started farming without consequences. Do you think I don't understand basic economic theories and how changes like these will result in adjusted playstyle behavior?
Secondly, LOL @ what I bolded. You're gonna sit here and build your argument against me based on "Supercell did what is best, b/c it's what they intended with the game" while simultaneously providing me with the material for which to tear that argument to shreds, in the same post?! That is rich.
So if Supercell wanted us to protect our THs (gonna add some words in and by all means tell me if this isn't what you were getting at, but protect our TH and increase in trophies while doing it)--if they didn't intend for all of us to stick it outside to mitigate both loot losses and even trophy losses, then tell me why they haven't addressed the TH sniping problem up in higher leagues? For years and years, it's gone without so much as a second thought regarding even toying with a potential solution. In fact, every time they just increase league bonuses across the board, they only further reinforce this behavior, and with each flat increase it sets the threshold for it at lower and lower leagues.
Please take the shoe out of your mouth and answer me that question before you try and continue to build your inept argument against me on a foundation of sticks.
Looking over you're response to me I wasn't sure if you were arguing anything I said, I only shared my personal experience.
However, I am one of those people that got on the forum and took people's advice.
I wanted DE, I wanted to keep it - raise my trophies and put my TH outside. Not to high tho or your playing with the big dogs.
I am a fan of the change in the matchmaking system personally but 100% see your point at the same time. But the reason I like it is for different reasons than the cons (very real ones) you present.
I typically maintain as high a trophy count as I can while still making profit. Why? Because I don't barch and DE is pretty much king to me. So the matchmaking system somewhat protects me from being steamrolled by Th10 players until I break into a range where their isn't enough Th8 players to go around. This has worked out great for me as the average player lacks the skills to take on their peer and has typically gone around feeding on the weak.
But I can hardly argue with you about the absolute ballooning gold/sliver leagues have experienced. As a clan leader I personally get annoyed when I get requests for "can you drop your trophies to 800 so I can request to join?" Your a freakin' Th10 at 800?!? But its really really common among players who are farming.
That does say to me something isn't working right. Their is such a gap between farming and pushing as it stands.
Anywho, I have found your comments interested. Good day :)
Stopping zapping was the best update out of all updates.
This update was a gift! I would farm hard for my DE, then Bob (Fictious name) would come and zap it like a true noob. A DE protection base was useless
Oh no I was just using you as an example with your TH10 account. That players will work within the constraints of the game Supercell provides/changes, and trying to show why these problems that many forumers complain about exist, and how to avoid/mitigate them until they are no longer problems. You valued DE enough to put yourself into a league where it wouldn't be zapped over and over again, and that shows someone who is both dedicated as a farmer and a critical thinker as they change their status to avoid problems felt in lower leagues.
Too many times I used to see members come on here and post about getting zapped all the time, to which I and several others explained to them why it was happening, and if they wanted to trade-off the best gold/elixir farming range to be able to save up DE, then they needed to move up in trophies. Of course, we're trying to explain this to children, so it falls on deaf ears and they just go and spam 10 more threads complaining about the "problem." This is why I am jaded towards those who try and defend the zapping thing, as I've dealt with far too many kids or even thick-headed adults who refuse to play a strategy game strategically.
Looking over all your recent replies to me after I completely and clearly explained why it objectively was a bad thing, you can see that you do enjoy replying, but don't really offer up anything to say. I should have known, as coming into this forum to discuss actual problems/solutions always results in the same de-evolution of thought.
I could have accurately predicted this whole discussion, just as it always played out in the past.

"DE zapping is bad, I lose all my DE and never get a shield?"
Are you a high TH in a very low league?
"I'm a TH10 farming in silver/gold, and when I log off NOOBS zap me constantly."
Did you think that maybe you're not getting a shield b/c you are too strong to actually raid given the bases that are down there, and you don't offer much loot in the form of a league bonus b/c of how low you are? I'm in Masters/champs and I rarely get zapped, and when I do, it always, 100% of the time comes with a shield.
"It's too hard to find gold and elixir up there, so I farm down here where there is more loot."
So you pick on weaker bases, which is ok, but then you do see how they are going to retaliate with the only way that they can? And if you want to avoid that from happening, if you value DE more than the easy gold/elixir per hour you're getting, you can farm up in higher leagues and keep your DE safe.
"They should just remove zapping or add a lightning rod!"

Every single thread, it's like this. It's them complaining about something that affects them negatively (maybe a bit embellished, but def a problem to them, nonetheless), then we try and get them to understand that if they choose to head to a region where some resources are abundant, the consequences of that could result in getting hit for difference resources. One hundred times out of 100, they just gloss that part over and go back to complaining, and using other nonsensical arguments, rather than do something about it that would solve the problem entirely. Of course, the atrociously misspelled, 1000 re-spammed thread posts a day eventually worked, as Supercell catered to the lowest common denominators and removed it from the game.
I just get a bit aggravated when ignorance trumps logic and reason. I thought this game was supposed to be a strategy game; that it was supposed to reward intellectualism and good strategy, and not simply jam the rum-coated pacifier into the crying baby's mouth just to avoid the headache.
A person who can't get to your storages, should not be able to get what is in them. It was a wonderful update.
