Is this breaking any rules for the game?

So my clan started a war this morning. Shorty after we got a request to join our clan from someone named cailie. Now cailie only stayed in our base for about 30-60 minutes and then left the clan, but before he/she left the clan they left a message in our clan saying that he/she is their #7 on the enemy clan and then shorty after we checked the base for the #7 and it had the words "I am cailie" spelt out using their walls....I have screenshots of everything but i just wanna know if this is even legal ..and its kinda fair cuz they got to see where our traps are and what we have in our cc...I can't put up the screenshots ATM cuz I'm on my phone..

It just highlights that clans should be more careful who they allow in before and during wars. Poor clan leadership really.

Did you fill clan castles? If yes, empty them and put different troops
Also move all your traps in your bases

This way they'll mess up

Yes, it is allowed. It us annoying and underhanded, but legal and allowed if im not mistaken.

I've always thought it would be an excellent idea to have 2 bases. One for prep day and one for war day, switch right before the buzzer. Same base, just different trap/tesla placement. Then encourage spies, maybe even make your clan "anyone can join".

I bet it would really screw the other clan up. Thinking you know where the traps are when it's wrong, is even worse then not knowing where they are, i think.

We're a relatively new clan and the same goes for our clanmates, so we didnt even know about this, so the inexperience is understandable....kinda sucks this kinda stuff is allowed anyways thanks for the replies ...

Completely legal. As legal as lightning DE storages until SC removes it recently.

The analogy is simple, a cute trojan horse knocks on your gate, and your gate keeper (leader / co / elder) opens the gate. The soldier comes out and spy your base.

The blame would be the gate keeper who opens the gate. Learn from mistakes, be more careful in subsequent wars.

It's all a part of war.

it's legal.. it's kinda old school war tactic where you need to send a spy..
just a note.. after clan war search make sure the clan info is closed
so no one can join when war is ongoing :D

They did this in WW1 and WW2, so why not Clash of Clans War? :smirk:

As far as the Terms of Conditions of the Services are concerned, War Spying does not violate it.

Can it be considered poor sportsmanship? Absolutely.
Can it be considered an exploit? No.

Do I believe it should be changed? No.

I don't think there's a first world nation on this planet that doesn't have an active spy agency, whether they're in an active conflict or not. American certainly does, whether at war or times of peace (anyone remember what that feels like?) and I believe spying is a natural part of war. It builds an added level of suspense, to be vigilant in who you accept and how you accept them.

During war, if someone tries to request entry, I'll usually decline or ask if someone is actively recruiting in Global. With no one actively recruiting or speaking in global, the likelihood of a random clan request is low unless you're in a famous clan, or recruit elsewhere like here in the forums.

Rule of thumb, decline everyone unless they were actively recruited.

Poor sportsmanship? You can hardly say sportsmanship has any place in a clan war. Its a war for exactly that reason. One team wins, one team looses.

This is the same as not being careful and letting an opponent see your hand in a card game, like poker. You will get taken to the cleaners if something like that happens.

As the saying goes, all is fair in love and war. And spying is as old as war itself. If there is a way to gain an advantage, people will explore it.

Considered poor sportsmanship. I don't consider it that, but we cannot deny that others have their own individual opinion on the matter and do consider it poor sportsmanship.

The advantage of spying does not use anything outside of built in game mechanics.

When people send spies, I hear little whiny mosquito noises around my ears. And when I listen closely, this is what I hear them saying:

The mechanics of playing cards allows you to sneak a glimpse at other people's hand. Do it 'break the game mechanics'? No. Does doing it make your friends mentally mark you down as a weirdo who completely missed the point? Yes!

And, uh, you might take the fact that traps are hidden by default as a hint about the 'mechanics of the game' and what supercell mean by that.

'Your clan isn't careful/serious enough! Serves them right!! etc'

So when you're in fulltime war, and your clan is clearly having a good enough time to attract random quality new members - as we often do - there's literally no measures you can take that 100% guarantee. So, because there are people out there who will relentlessly, in every aspect of their sad little lives, suck the fun out of everything, the only thing you can do is only accept pre-known members. Which adds to the recruitment work for everyone.

My clan has been firmly fair play since forever and we're completely awesome. In addition, we have this mad glow of moral righteousness. The view from this moral high ground is GREAT!

So yes. Have 'fun' trashing bases where you know where all the traps are, that must feel like a real achievement. Shame you can't win without it.

I do this all the time and 9/10 my base either gets no stars or 1 at the most.
But we as a clan have had to learn to stop taking people in when at war!!

Clan wars are about good clan management and accepting spies especially if they are still visible on the war map are an example of poor clan management. Set your clan to closed during war or to invite only and demote ever elder except for maybe 5.

We screenshot the full enemy clan list as soon as a match is found, but we still get the odd spy because they send minis from other clans, or leave before war is declared. It's not about naivety - you can manage a clan brilliantly [*cough*cough] but ♥♥♥♥♥ers gonna ♥♥♥♥♥.

yesterday , i weren't on my clan war(have few upgrades) , so i did a spy for them against a Chinese clan , changed language to Chinese ( i guess so cause there's no flags) , i sent request , they rejected , i joined another Chinese clan ( req nd go ) , after that , i quit it , they sent me a request , i accepted , i took sc for every base and trap , went back to my clan after a few hours. mission accomplished .

Close your clan all the time or at least during war day. Don't accept people you don't know. Never had a spy in my clan. After around 200 wars we never got a spy in clan just becausr clan is set to closed :)

Believe me, I understand how to make it work. We're constantly at war, so this is impractical. And we get genuine randoms applying who have turned out to be amazing clashers. We don't like missing out on that just because people like to ♥♥♥♥♥.

I accept the circumstances, the least people can do is accept that a) it's ♥♥♥♥♥ing and b) it's pissing up the game for everyone else. Nobody respects a ♥♥♥♥♥ clan's war record.

Fine, but some games are based on (or intentionally reward) deceit and sneakiness.

I'm sort of with you on some points but I don't think it is as clear cut as you think.

Nah, spying in war doesn't irritate me much. Sure, its deceptive and a little sneaky, but ultimately its another element of war that you have to consider.

And anyways, opposed to Perdita's moral high ground, i actually like the pre-war sneakiness. It adds another dimension of fun for me, and being the spy or even tricking the enemy spy's? Its like we're waging information wars before the battle has even started! :smirk:

Nope - least she was nice enough to tell you that she was the enemy, that way you know to change your bases, troops, and trap positions, 99% of the time you just get wrecked in the war because you were spied on without knowing.
