Replay Storage - war versus multiplayer
Ok, I know that retaining replays through maintenance is ruled out. If there is a technical reason such as the maintenance breaks them then I understand. However, my working presumption is that they are files/objects somewhere in Amazons S3 service, and maintenance deletes them to free up space and keep costs lower for SC.
For multiplayer I couldn't care less. That's fine.
However, for war the replays are critical. When maintenance occurs during war and prior replays are lost it creates a tactical advantage or disadvantage for a team. This is especially true when competing clans are on opposite sides of the planet and have a significant disparity in the number of attacks performed prior to maintenance. Replays for second attacks are a vital strategic need.
What I propose is that war and multiplayer replays are stored and cleaned up differently. Do whatever you want with multiplayer - delete those during maintenance as it is done today. But keep the war replays available as long as the war log exists. At the point in time that the war log is being purged, then and only then should the replays for that war also be purged. This typically means only storing the previous two wars worth of replays afaik. It shouldn't be a significant burden on the expense of running the game.
Again, if there is a functional reason why replays won't work after maintenance then fine. But if the reason is solely based on maintaining storage space, then please consider dealing with war replays differently.
Also, it is understandable that after a game update to the client that the replays may no longer function. This request does not involve preserving replays after a client side update to the game.
