HELP with GoWiPe TH8 3 stars?

9 out of 10? That's an extraordinary ratio. I'd love to see some videos of your attacks, particularly the last 10 attacks, as you should have netted 27 stars.

Also, that base that you showed was far from maxed out. 3-starring an upper end TH8, especially a max/near max TH8, with GoWiPe isn't easy (barring a base that begs for it), despite claims to the contrary.

I don't understand how anyone can argue that backend loons or hogs don't significantly improve on a GoWiPe. A straight GoWiPe, in my mind, is a vastly inferior attack. What is often the case is that your pekkas/B King/troops get stuck on walls once through the core and this allows the remaining defenses to just tee off on them. Those two options are often great ways to deal with the last defenses and help secure the 3-star.

The absolute key to any of these types of attacks is the golem and the wizards. Pekkas just come for the ride and can easily be replaced with other strong troops, like, say, valks.

The thread starter is specifically talking about th8 gowipe, which will 3 star max th8s. blankly saying its not a 3 star strategy is false. Instead it would be accurate to say that 3 star potential for gowipe peaks at th8 then goes down hill from there.

Sure, but it's equally faulty to say that it will 3-star max TH8 bases.

It can, sure, but GoWiPe is often very base specific, requiring lots of walkways. A "tight" base and the GoWiPe will likely struggle.

I think the reason people say it's mostly a 2-star strategy is because you just don't often see a GoWiPe 3-star attack much, or, shall we say, anywhere near as often as, say, mass drags (with or without hogsd/loons) and/or a hog run (& it's variants). Overwhelmingly, the results of most GoWiPes is a 2-star. Perhaps this is because most people don't know how to attack/use it on the wrong base/whatever, but I think that at least plays a role in the conclusions people have about it.

Personally, I'm not a fan of GoWiPe, unless it's got backend loons, or, my favorite (& clan's favorite) hogs with it. You put a L5 Pekka in the CC, get golems, B King, and wizards working into the core, that's one of the strongest attacks I've seen against max/near max TH8 bases

Ive watched alot of failed mass dragon attacks, and was apart of a clan where me and a few others consistently 3 starred max 8s with gowipe and variations of gowipe, so I don't understand why people see mass dragons as more viable. I prefer just about every ground attack over dragons.

i am sorry, but i must agree with John, perhaps i am not a great player like most of you are >__< but i took the cue to move on to ground attacks because i was having difficulty three starring max bases with mass dragons. I use to get 5-6 stars with dragons but i upgraded more i was having difficulty 3 starring my mirror enemy bases and 1 up enemy... definitely base layout had something to do with it (i guess?) but i knew i needed to learn another attack and have it under my belt for the rest of my TH8 days...
Your opinions are very much appreciated. i read every one of them and take it all into consideration though :)

Sure, if you're facing, say, AD666/max/near max TH8, no way do I check to dragons unless I can execute something like a dragon snipe. Just not consistent enough. Low to mid, however, it's pretty easy to 3-star with dragons.

But, by the same token, no way do I just blindly think of GoWiPe either. The base has to really call for it. But I'm looking hog first and foremost at max TH8 levels, for it really takes a DGB to stop most hog attacks and even then variants (like GoHo) can deal with DGB locations.

Most of the work on a dragon attack goes into the planning. Once you deploy, you're almost on cruise controls. In other words, it's often an easier attack as well. This helps younger TH8 players execute (hopefully) solid attacks.

And, once again, dragons probably appear more viable because people likely see far, FAR more 3-stars with dragon attacks than GoWiPes over the course of their TH8 career. Granted, the introduction of the leaf blower does change things, but low to mid TH8, it's still just too easy in many, if not most, wars to get 3 from a drag attack

Yes, barring a dragon snipe attack (or similar), I don't even consider drags against a max/near max TH8. But a GoWiPe will often struggle, big time, against a great many (most?) max TH8 bases as well. A true GoWiPe often requires a specific base to execute elegantly, otherwise it loses serious steam once it powers to/through the core. There's a reason why serious clans like, say, OneHive, frowns on them (unless the base screams for it)

Totally depends on what base you are attacking and what troops are available.

As a new/mid TH8, I'd almost always be going drags in war. Far too many bases are just awful and/or the ADs are so weak that L2 drags, to say nothing about L3 drags, just torch 'em, even with the leaf blower.

Somewhere along the line, which I'd loosely (make that very loosely) define as, say, AD665 (or higher), the game changes. Mass drags (even L3) just get too hard, barring a dragon snipe attack (search JTJU for this term, although, I don't necessarily use hogs to snipe all 3 ADs, it totally depends on the lay of the base, but if you can get to the ADs fast, you can light up max TH8s with this attack and I'll always go to it first if it's there---it's just taking candy from a baby type of attack...)

In my mind, which I'm sure others may disagree with, at mid to especially max TH8, it's overwhelmingly about hogs. L4 hogs can do a ton of work on a TH8 base, especially if the bacon doesn't get spring trapped or blow up in a GB. As an example, I can think of several dragon snipe attacks where I went 8 drags (+ rage) to get one AD and 13 hogs to get the other 2 (this was just prior to poison and drags/loons dominating CC--a loon will torch hog attacks and must be dealt with carefully, but that is another story...) and the 13 hogs were the star of the show. It just cracked the entire clan up---hogs rule.

So many hog attacks can blow up max TH8s, be it a GoHo or a straight hog run (my favorite right now, despite its simplicity!). A few of my clan mates just rock GoWiPe with hogs, it's not even funny. Their skill with that attack crushes mine and they just light bases up. I can do it, but I find a straight 30-31 hog run easier and more enjoyable...haha Ultimately, you will be amazed to find how many bases do NOT run DGB and many stick GBs on the outside of the base where a single barb can pop it!! /DUH! You can rest assured, a 31ish hog attack will follow and likely 3 star the base...

I also think a variant of GoWiPe/GoWiVa with backside loons/hogs can also be nasty, but the key to the 3 always seems to be those hogs/loons. Some of the best clans/attackers I've ever seen use this idea as well, up to and including against my clan, which sucked!! haha

Unlike townhall 7 which mostly revolve around dragons and lightning spells against other townhall 7s, townhall 8 has plenty of varieties of attacks to choose from like Hogs, Dragon and Dragoon Varieties, GoWi attacks like GoWiPe varieties or GoWiVa...Pretty much the right tool for the right job...you just have to make a good call in knowing which attack to use...
