Hi, I am a TH8 but just recently I have realized my funneling skills need work, especially with dragon attacks...my drags and loons tend to move away from the AD...I have watched Funneling 101 and TH8 Dragoon video of One Hive but any other advice you guys can give me to help improve my funneling skills
Dragon attacks have become very tricky. What most people fail at is the cutters, their placement make a huge difference, and giving them time to do their job. The dragons need to go inside, so that means outside buildings need to go first. We have some new TH 8s that are having a hard time, because they are use to the TH 7 method. I have been advocating dropping dragons from the outside in; outside cutters, wait a moment, one spot inside, wait a moment, main row, still outside in.
Those are great guides. The dragon funneling from OneHive is what I preach to my th7s and th8s for their dragon raids. Practice makes perfect.
Say you want to attack this base. Just an example mind you.. not saying this will get a 3* on this base.

Barb king on the north point at #1, first dragon on west point at #2 then #3 back by BK #4 back by first dragon, etc, etc. This will cause the outer ring to collapse first, forcing your dragons in the middle to go to the core. From there it's all about spell placement and when/where you release your CC.
The best advice I can give is to scout the bases thoroughly. Make sure the base you're attacking has been identified as a base that can be exploited by dragons. Or even be open to modifying the army. The base I posted above could benefit from 12 hogs and 3 lightning spells to eliminate all 3 ad. Send in 6 hogs each at the cannons by the AD, then zap out the remaining AD.
Hope that helps illustrate it a bit more.
The first step is to stop using Dragons at TH8. Hogs and GoWiPe are much better options. Last update gave buildings a huge HP increase. Dragons were already hard to reliably get 3 with before that on any almost max 8.
Getting past that, funneling is pretty simple in idea... Just clear the sides before you put the bulk of your army in to fight so they don't get lost running around the base. It's all about practice, you'll never really know how troops react until you do it yourself or watch a lot of YouTube videos.
Seriously though, if you're not a TH7, don't use dragons. You'll get lucky sometimes, but the other options are far and away better. Good luck man, wish I could help more.
I would use dragons on most TH8 with the exception of lvl 6 AD and other defenses nearly max. In order to use hogs you should have hogs at lvl4 but you should also have your heal spell maxed and you should have wizards at lvl5. This means that you can't do a hog attack from the beginning when you are a lvl 8 TH. Dragons are much easier to get when you are just a TH8. You simply upgrade your dragons and you are ready for most TH8 with the exception of nearly maxed out bases.
One tip I would like to give you when you start tunneling is that you should consider the hitpoints of the outside buildings. If you have eg. a builder hut next to a max elixir storage then it takes of course longer to burn down the elixir storage. It is then perfectly normal that the dragon you put on the builder hut goes into direction of the storage even if you started with a dragon on the storage. Sometimes I use then two dragons on a storage.
What you can best do is try to imagine what is burned down first and which directions are then possible for your dragons. Also keep in mind that not only the air defenses are shooting at your dragons but also archer towers. Two high level Archer towers shooting at a single dragon can also do a lot of damage very quickly. Keep that in mind when you decide where your attack starts. If it is possible then take out archer towers that are close to the edge. Sometimes it is possible to use your king to distract archer towers shooting at your dragons.
Drop 1-2 dragon on the outside, where you DON't want the dragons to go. Repeat on the other side. Unleash the swarm.
Not to stray too far off topic but I agree with this. I just spent a week learning GoWiPe and in two wars they have already passed what I was able to do with my drags. I was worried that it was going to be too complicated but I actually find it easier and more fun than doing dragon attacks all the time.Quote:

I'm a TH8 and use dragons, I always get 3 stars in regular raid but in war raid I only get 1 or 2 stars. Why is this?
but to answer the OP's questions use lightning to take out an AD then use your barbarian king to take out the extra buildings.

Because they are set up differently, to achieve different aims.
A normal base certainly at th8 and below will be trying to protect loot, so storages will be well protected, the TH may very well be outside, ADs will be in sub-prime locations yadda yadda.
War base, the opposite. Storages have no value other than as big hp shields, usually for ADs. The first objective for th8s particularly with sub-max ADs is to stop an easy 3* with drags. Either make it hard enough for drags to fail, or obviously hard enough to force smarter attackers into a more difficult army choice.
Add to that every def active, premium perma-full cc, awake king.....completely different.
In pushes I'll get plenty of 3 stars on weak, medium and sometimes fairly max th10s, purely because some of those conditions won't be met (couple defs down, or heroes asleep) even if base design is fairly similar to a war one.
Vvv rarely 3* any th10 in war, certainly not a strong one.
All that says is that you aren't particularly good with dragons.Quote:

I used to live by this strategy when i was a TH8 and i could 3 star max th8s 4 out of 5 times. however this was before the air sweaper came into place, and also before the HP hike. if you are looking at attacking weaker TH8s then sure use Dragaloon otherwise use hogs... and avoid gowipe. its only good for open base concepts and even then its not a great strategy.
Anyways back on topic. one thing i used to do is use my king to create the funnel, that way i had an extra dragon to contribute to my main force, also when i did use my king i would put him on the side that had the most archer towers or the closes AD. i would use my dragon where there were fewer archer towers and AD wasn't going to take it out right away. Big thing about funneling is that it isn't too difficult to do the funnel itself, the hard part is timing everything together so that your Balloons reach the AD at the right time. You wanted enemy ADs to lock onto your dragons at the same time as the balloons would basically surpass the dragons to get to that AD so that they get there quickly and take it out before they take any major damage.
That being said Dragoloon is not a good strategy anymore on maxed or near maxed out TH8s, other strategies such as hogs, goho, or gowiva are better. Gowipe could work depends on base type, dragaloon could work depends on base type but hogs can 3 star essentially any base type.

At th8 I'd always wait to drop my king. If my dragons started to move along the outside I'd drop the king in a way that it would head them off an force them back into the core.
Yes that's one of my problems, the cut drags, sometimes I wouldn't know which buildings the cut drags should be deployed. I am having a hard time making exact cuts to make your main dragon force to go to the core (which is where the Ads).Quote:
