Hiya.
So I have around 50,000 DE sat in my storage and I'm considering what to spend it on, it's taken a while to get 50k, this week of boosting has helped a lot. Hogs are fantasticcccc and I like golems too, but having max hogs would be pretty cool whereas having level 1 golems is n00by.

if you aren't spending it on heroes I'd go with the golem for now.
if you're a town hall 9, go with hogs
If you like using hogs go that way.
Lvl 5 hogs make a huge difference to all hog attacks there is so much more room for error.
Lvl 2 golems still aren't great and hopefully you can take a well upgraded golem in your cc to tank for a kill squad (going into the base to get the queen).
Lvl5 hogs make an attack, higher level golems support all attacks that require more then one golem.
Its always the case of whichever you use more of
Do both, in order of which you use more. At th9, GoHo is very strong, so you need both upgraded asap.

Ideally, you should already have golems level 2, but that doesn't matter. They aren't too much of a difference from level 1 golems, but Hogs level 5 have a huge buff compared to hogs 4. So, the most advantageous troop to upgrade would be the hogs :)
I was in the same situation and went with the Hogs. Originally I thought I would use them primarily for war which I still do but only for very specific base types. However they have been recruited as part of my farming army. I always have 3 on hand because they are awesome for
- Triggering cc's
- Taking out an air defense that is behind the first layer of walls. Great if you use GiBarch with a Healer.
- Setting off traps in forced path bases
