In our clan we have it at invite only since we get to choose who gets in.
If a ton of people randomly joins there is a fear the sudden flood may make our older members leave.
We actually have raised our trophy requirement up to about 2600 just to stop lowbies from requesting to join every-time one of our Champs went on global. (Just me at the moment :))
We at it at 1200 earlier, not many people usually request to join. And those that did, didn't usually stay long.
Just got to get lucky on who you can find on global, found no-one from the forum who wanted to join.

Don't think the hardcore farmers are gonna come to your clan no offense but it depends on the amount of players you want. Seeing that your clan is already at 40 players, you either want to develop all the players if they are active and at the same time warring. Without good war wins, active, strong players, no one will want to join. Do this and the good players will come to you.

Should always be 0 unless your clan is focused on pushing. There's no point in eliminating possible members.
