Yup.. that's what we've been using. Lvl 4/5 dragon along with a few loons would do for now.

I find it ammusing that people are saying cc are no too easy to predict and that they all have dragons or hounds in them, so this makes clan castle diversity extinct.
I'm sorry, but before the update pretty much all war clan castles used to have a wizard and witch combo, some had dragons, rarely we saw a hound. That was it! Not very diverse at all.
Now we have dragons and hounds yes, but there are a lot of dragon combos you can have. You can have drag, valk, loon, you can have drag witch, you can have drag archers etc etc. Personally I think a Dragon and witch combo works well. The witch means they are forced to lure or poison the cc, and then the drag will do decent damage before it is killed.
If you set uo your clan castles correctly then they are certainly not predictable.
As for the opening poster! Well seriously, what do you expect if you are filling your defensive cc with low hp troops. It isnt the spell thats overpowered, it's you that doesn't know how to defend against it, or you are in a clan that doesn't give good troops on request.
The problem with the spell is there is no middle ground. The funny part is they gave level 5 dragons and in the same update made it, so everyone uses their counter (hound cc). Well played SC. Not like dragon armies are good, but it is a funny coincidence.
