I'm a semi fresh th8 and I'm working on walls already. Just for the simple fact that I want to get them out of the way. I don't concentrate on one thing in particular though, I just upgrade things here and there ensuring that 4 builders are always busy. I find that the wall grind on its own is just boring. The way I do it might not be the right way but it works for me :)
First choices, do your walls, it's not a grind, two levels of wall at TH9 is a bit of a grind, and join the social elite of clashers who show back bone.
Or
Second choice, skip your walls and have three levels of walls to do, which realistically, if you can't do one level, you're not going to do three levels, and join the underclass of clashers that the social elite feed off.
Ignore the rushers, they just want more weak bases so they feel better about theirs.
I'm fairly new to TH8 and everytime a builder gets free I do some skulls
I have 40 skull walls atm, doing 4/5 everytime a builder gets free (I can usually farm around 4M gold a day and most of my upgrades are less than 2M expensive)
I guess this is good because I'm not "wasting elixir" in any way and TH10s won't get after me
DE goes on king (going to 7) and research (hogs going to 3)
Walls add to your war weight, but don't help much in war as a th9 because most attacks fly or jump over them (or earthquake them now). So long as you can farm enough to cover any losses from raids I think you should leave them and move up now
Are you active enough to keep all but one builder plus your lab busy while having enough excess resources to upgrade walls until another builder or the lab becomes free? Then I'd suggest moving up to TH9. There, you can continue to make use of your builders and lab while working on two levels of walls - one lego with elixir for every skull you complete with gold.
If you aren't this active, you could always take your time and slowly upgrade those walls at TH8. But you'll be there for quite a while with sleeping builders and an idle lab with nothing but your army to spend your elixir on.

I'll give u my personal opinion to help u make your decision. This is not the only way just the way I recommend.
I say yes grind them out. If your lab is already maxed then that means you didn't manage your time wisely. Lab tskes twice the time that buildings do in th8 so plenty of time to do walls if you are active.
Personally I wanted to max everything at th8 so I did. I would argue that it is a huge benefit to your base as far as clan wars go. Trust me it takes skill to 3 star a max th8 with a good layout as a th8. Also the benefit of this is in th9 now (2 months ago) I can do walls with gold and elixir. No more pesky skulls.
However..... if your lab is done you should go to th9 as much as it pains me to say it. You will have extra gold soon enough to finish ur skulls if you are active due to long upgrade times.

Oh how wrong you are my friend. It's relatively easy to build an anti hog anti lavaloon base. However if you have lvl 7 walls it won't matter. A simple max lvl gowiwi can 3 star u. Walls are your defense against golem based armies. Layout is for air and hogs.Quote:

i disagree with your post. if he moves up and doesnt build defenses, he wont have any gold to steal really, and getting a little elixir and de stolen wont matter much if you farm consistently. the game is 90% offense, and the little elixir that you'll lose wont be nearly as much as the amount of elixir you would waste if you stay and grind wallsQuote:
