I'll go one further and say champions.....been up here for just over a month to do the last 10 levels of my heroes and right now have 1 level of each left. With the matchmaking update I see all the way down to c1 and there are some th9s that are bloated with dark and top that off with a 1200 dark bonus and I've been as too keep them going with generally a 2-3 day overlap where I have no heroes available. Granted you have to be really confident you will win those as a loss will set you back 39 trophies but I've made it work really effectively.
Sorry if I sound rude but this thread is ♥♥... do you have any evidence? Apparently not.. im a high-end TH9 and I've been farming ONLY DE for the past few months in Master 2.
I was able to upgrade both heroes from L20 to 25 and now my AQ is ready to go to L30
you can farm DE almost anywhere.
However, it depends on your style, gem budget, and level of free time.
Since I attack and log off while army rebuilds (no boosting and minimal fee time) masters worked really well for me. I would search for 2k plus de, regardless of gold or elixir, and when I found a TH9 I would try to get it. I attacked with barbs archers giants, queen, wall breakers and a few minions. 75% of the time I would be successful. ( I am not a perfect CoC raider). so combined with my wins of the day and the loot bonus from masters, my pumps and any losses I took from myself being raided, I was netting approximately 125k to 130k DE a week. I upgraded my king back to back from level 20-30.
Now everyone's different and has different amount of free time and some can boost so they can attack back to back in lower leagues, that is fine. But when you have to raid, log off, raid, log off, raid etc... the instant shield you get in masters can help alot.
There is no one right answer.
Anyone who says masters is the best for DE has clearly not been to silver leagues in the last few months. I may never need to go to masters again, might do once both heroes are maxed.
I have 3 bases and all are TH10. Two are in masters and one is in crystal. I basically just build up a big expensive army and attack whenever for at least one star and get the loot bonus, because it's reliable and faster that way.
Attack the first base I see for one star and get 100k+/each and some DE? Plus the DE they put in the core with their TH i just killed? And be done with it?
Or...
Go down to lower leagues, hit Next 5000 times until a base with worthwhile loot finally shows up (which costs a lot of gold , nevermind time which I have little of sometimes), and may or may not actually bring down all the storages to get said loot before my troops fizzle.
I just feel right now that the former is more reliable.. but then again I haven't dropped down to low leagues since the update that changed matchmaking... Would it be cheaper and faster to barch? Sure.. if I have the time to take advantage of this, but often times I can't just sit and play only CoC for hours back to back to do this. Nevermind the fact all that nexting is very costly too, in gold, which I need the most right now (still trying to upgrade all these 6-7mil costing defenses!)

Farming DE in Masters works well when you can't play in sessions and login every couple hours to raid with a beefy army that gets 2.5k+ the win bonus.
It depends on your playing style.
If you use a time consuming army with several spells, and possibly have heroe(s) available to use, higher leagues will be better for you. If you use a fast training army with few spells, and possibly don't have any heroes available, lower leagues will be better for you.
I'm using GiBAG in C3-C2. Both of my heroes are constantly upgrading, so I can never use them, and I rarely use any spells. I often boost my barracks, but not spell factory. When boosting, I'll hit any base with 1k+ DE. During one boost session, I find lots of 2k+ raids, and several 3k+ raids. I make an average of 30k per boost.
I've tried DE farming everywhere from Crystal to Champion, and I've found that Crystal suits me best. Both of my heroes are on their way to level 32 right now, and I'll be staying here until I get them to 40.
