I am just curious as to how this works? Is a th 8.5 basically a th 9 with th8 defenses? If so how do you do this I am nearly maxed th 8gettin ready to move to 9...i am just trying to gather all the info I can before I bump up... Any advice would be appreciated thanks guys
It's hard at the beginning . Once ur th finish upgrade , u will see the big difference. Just don't keep too much loot.
and when people destroy u, u have to accept it . Don't rage , it's normal . Thanks to the new match making system . People who just finish th upgrade will get fked in the beginning
TH8.5 and TH9.5 is a strategy that war buffs use, where they don't build any new TH9 or TH10 defenses so they are not weighted heavily in war. Your goal with the .5 town halls is to max your lab, upgrade your camps, upgrade your spell factory, upgrade your barracks, build and upgrade your walls, add new traps, add new storages, and add and upgrade the queen. It is advised not to upgrade or add any new defenses, most specifically xbows and inferno towers, as they weigh heavily in war. If you did build xbows right when you were a new TH9, you would be facing higher level TH9s which you would have to attack them with your TH8 level army. If you do TH8.5, you are matched up with TH8s, making it easier for you to win attacks as a new TH9.Quote:

My rule when going to 9, unless you're a hardcore war clan: Just don't build xbows until you have a level 4 spell factory, level 5 queen, 220 spaces, and witches. Then you have an army that can pull in a true 9 which your xbows will do. Kind of a common sense approach to 8.5.
So if I understood that right I do not add or upgrade any defense at all? But if I drop the archer queen wouldn't she be a defense especially in war? And if I didn't upgrade any defences until I have lvled up my troops and army camps I still get matched with a th 8 in wars?

Nope, a true .5 doesn't build any of the new defenses. If you want to be a quasi build .5 you can get the new defenses just avoid crossbows and infernos. You won't be as much of a mismatch though if you get the extra defenses. The goal is to keep your base weight low while increasing your offensive abilities beyond the ability of your mirror.
It's more complex than "matched with this" (that's not how the matching algorithm works, if you're in a mirror clan leave and join a smart clan).. It's really just about keeping the defensive war weight of an 8 while maxing your TH9 offense because offense>defense in warQuote:

The last 3 updates have all nerfed a mass dragon attack in some way so maybe not as important any more. The point of the 8.5 strat is a transitory stat. It is to help you transition from th8 to th9 in a way that is beneficial to ur clan war matchmaking wise. If your are a max th8 u already will pull rushed th9s. Once u go to th9 u will for sure pull th9s. The point of the 8.5 is to keep pulling rushed th9s while u get ur offense up and running. Cause it takes almost a month just to get ur farming troops up to speed. Let alone war troops.
I have 3 maxed TH8s going to TH9 right now and I'm telling them actually one step further. They aren't making any additional defensive buildings until they have what you said above. No walls, ats, cannons, wts...etc.Quote:

The 3rd I have doing valks, this is challenging on DE and makes upgrading AQ tough, but valks are very underrated TH9 troop.
Each will have about 2 weeks out of war, but then they go from not being able to do anything to being able to 3 star mid level TH9s and below.

Good thought, but your backward. You should get your troops up first and allow the defenses to lag behind. This is so logical I'm not sure why people are backward on this. Defense is automated, force the other team to demonstrate some skill and attack buildings. Offense is skill, give yourself as much offensive power as you can. If a player has weak defenses and great offenses they are worth +3 to you. 6 stars offensively and they can only be 3 starred once.Quote:

I have my clan go straight for war caliber troops, not raiding troops. If you are active, raiding, and donating then you can compensate in your raid quality and quantity and still show profit for base progress.
The point is simple: offense before defense.
And I don't think you need to go that extreme. As long as you have dragon 3 and balloon 6, you can 2* most TH9.
You can even 3* them with hogs 5. So, why bother? Just upgrade as you normally do.
If the whole clan do this, it will have some effects on the war match making. 1 out of 20 doesn't change anything.
