that's why you clear out surrounding buildings before deploying ur hog rider
And you dont want the hog rider to be 'too powerful'.

Im sorry i don't think i got this, i said that hog riders are useless, what i could understand from this reply is that to you all troops are the same.
all of the troops is for dealing damage and its just that hog riders jump over walls lol
i really enjoy the strategy part of this game i use 8 different kinds of troops in every attack plus the 2heroes, I have never seen an attack with hog riders yield a better outcome than even just a wall breaker barbarian combination.
If there "exists" (lol using these words to show how seriously weak hog riders are) a chance that i just haven seen how good it is show me.

Hog Riders just must target archer towers. They will get your woman, hahahehe
Wow ummm.... So... You want hog riders to only attack the town hall or defences or therefore it will be useless? It like a barbarian except way OP. It doesn't matter if it has a favourite building or not it is really strong. They can jump over walls with a pig! Boy do i wish that I could ride pigs over walls...
Specific targeting is really powerful in this game. There's a reason why giants, golems, and balloons are slow and why goblins do not have a level 6 upgrade (yet). If hog riders target defense at the speed and DPS they have, then everyone and their mother would train hog riders and these forums will be filled with "what's the point of giants? balloons? golems?"
I agree that hog riders are not preferred over many other troop combinations at the moment, and SC is tweaking things as they go (e.g., dropping the housing cost), but a major change could completely throw any balance off.
In the end I think Hog Riders are cool in concept, but poor in practice. They get ahead of meat shields, and can get sidetracked before they spear deep into the defenses to do any good.
I honestly don't think tweaking the numbers will make the hog rider popular (unless they push to hard and end up OP until a hot fix). I think they could see more play time if they add a new troop that is designed to complement them. Perhaps another wall hopper than can target something, or another healer type.

Just read the update notes. We'll see if I am right. I think defense targeting is going to be really powerful for the Hog Rider. I think they'll see a lot more play time with Hogs + Healers wiping the defenses quickly.
