Question

So, is is sustainable... if one were to purchase Tom for 10 days, and all you did was get shovels 4 times a day, would you think that you could mine enough diamonds to pay for Tom? Diamonds are a bit expensive in this game compared to clash of clans gems anyway, and I was wondering if this were possible before I make the plunge :).

Hi. I am sure there are forum members with statistics to back up a response to your question, but in my undocumented experience there once was a time when what you ask about was possible. But it is no longer like that.

I tend to agree with you, willow. I noticed I only get a diamond about every 20 mining tools redeemed or so.

It's become quite difficult.

If you are very diligent about sending Tom for shovels every two hours, and also get diamonds from other sources, it's possible, but don't expect to have a lot of extra diamonds.

I get more diamonds from finding unlocked mystery boxes than with mining. :p

You are getting the pickaxes, not the shovels, right?

⬆️ This is so true. Mining used to be the way to get the most diamonds. Not now. Not now at all. Lock boxes are the best way.

I'm having the same experience as Tiggerr. I just got two diamonds in a row from sticks of dynamite. That is NOT to say that I get enough from mining to make hiring Tom worthwhile.

Historically, I sold my dynamite and TNT and mined with picks and shovels. Now I save those for Derby mining tasks and use my "cheaper" mining tools for keeping my smelters running on an everyday basis. That's how I've made the "Hmmm, I'm getting diamonds from dynamite and TNT discovery."

I have noticed that mining tools from Tom tend to have a slower payout ratio of diamonds than normally getting them. I got 10 pickaxes normally and got 2 diamonds. I used Tom and it took about 30 to get 2 diamonds. With shovels I was lucky enough to get a diamond within 10 tries on both Tom and normally obtained. Tom was still slower than the normally obtained though. Even if you bought the best deal, 10 day tom on discount which is only 9 gems a day rather than 15 and if you used him 12 times a day, at those ratios using pickaxes would gives 8 diamonds or less a day, however at the normal rate of just obtaining them you could get with Tom up to about 20 gems.
