Who Misses the "Good Ole Days"?

Maybe those who think the DD is worse now are actually comparing it to back when THEY themselves were a lower level. Lower levels sell dairy and sugar and expansion materials because they don't need the dairy and sugar to make so many things and they can't store those expansion materials because they are busy trying to make money first. The last time I found some real treasures in the DD was when I tapped on the farm of a level 27 farm. You need a lot less to expand then so each item isn't as valuable and any excess has to be sold. I remember actually using diamonds for that last bolt where now, I wouldn't dare. I know it will come eventually. I still get much better items shopping for my friends tab.

So maybe things look better from the DD point of view simply because of the level of the person reminiscing. In other words the DD wasn't better last month or last year but better at level 10 than level 110.

The Derby changed the game in a big way and has driven so many people crazy and split up a lot of hoods. I do miss pre derby sometimes, but i enjoy it now more than when it first came in to the game.

The key is to find a hood that isn't 100% focused on winning the derby every week. My hood gets it's 5 horseshoes every single week and that's enough for us, if we get in the top 3 rewards then that is just a bonus for us.

We were competitive and winning every week when it first came out...pre-trophy, and it was causing problems.

Now we just take a relaxed approach and have a much happier hood because of it. :thumbsup:

My neighborhood use to chat every day, be calm. But once derby task came, no chats, no one helps, no one does anything but derby task! That's why I made my own neighborhood.

Fond memories of that group and I still smile when I run across a few who still play in game.

Part of these delightful memories such as people helping out of kindness especially when there were no gift cards yet I also share however I also remember the darker side. Discussions about shop raiders and even RSS stalkers go back since very early on. Oh how much we wanted to be able to remove followers back then. Some may not remember but we haven't always been able to delete followers. Discussions like people stealing trades or people not doing their end of a trade etc are not exactly new either. So it wasn't all sunshine around the farm in the "good old days"

In a large community such as Hay Day there are all sorts of people from all walks of life. People with different ideas and opinions, people with different approaches to the game, people who find certain elements extremely fun or not so much. These things will show in NHs where there is conflicting playing styles especially where the derby is concerned so its important for a group of "like minded" players to find each other.

In general
as Tigg and 00becker and others mentioned I can't remember a DD ever being really good. BEM are always and always have been very scarce same as for SEM although they seem a bit easier. Land expansions however is a different story. If you were a newer player at one point you could easily find those in the DD this was between a long period of time of no expansions being added to the game. Lots of players finished their expanding and they started to show in the DD more and more. Then a new piece of land came along and as soon as the update hit the appstores the LEM vanished completely.

Slowly they were returning again until the recent addition. I haven't even finished yet I know some players have but my hood has several still working on them however people are starting to finish their expansions. Now if there is no other uses for them introduced in the near future we will eventually start seeing them more and more again in the DD. It is just the natural cycle of the DD. One day cloche hats and tofu dogs will almost disappear just like berry smoothies and wooly chaps are not as abundant as they once were. When land expansions were first added and no one had them they were even harder to come by since we now have many more sources of getting expansion items compared to a few years ago.

It would be so easy for Supercell to address this issue - simply spin off Hay Day into Hay Day Solo - the exact same game without neighborhoods or the Derby. They could either allow you to migrate your current farm or make you start from scratch. Either way, everyone goes home happy. You could even have it both ways by keeping your current farm in the current game and starting a new one in the solo game.

(Then they could spin off Hay Day Solo - Derby version, adding a single player Derby version. Now they have three games churning out revenue in place of one.)

Otherwise, one of the other farming games is going to clone the original (there are close imitations now) and suck up all the players who remember how peaceful it used to be.

Cbt, they could churn out a 100 different versions and there will always be someonebthat isn't satisfied. Ppl gave been moaning and groaning about the same things since I started playing 2 years ago. The players are the different and the game has changed, but it's the same complaint, even as the game has evolved.

The rest is not directed at you Cbt. Just wanted you to know, so you didn't think I was attacking you.

Ppl need to remember it's just a game, not life (I know someone is going jump on me for saying that). Nothing is perfect, but the world rolls on. DD will always be loaded with lots of junk and not what we want. This game in many way is an imitation of life. There will always be gives, but a lot more takers. And takers only share what benefits them. So the DD will always be loaded mostly with junk that you need to weed through to find the good stuff.

I will share one thing I've observed. The longer you play and the style in which you play determines what things show up in the DD. It's the algorithm they use to run the game. I've learned the new farms see a lot more expansion material in their DD. Again it's much like in real life. Things where so much simpler when we were kids, then we grow up and realize if we had only known what we knew today back then, things would have been easier on us. In reality, we needed those lessons to recognize the things we know today.

So everyone: Chin Up and Play On!

Cbt has a point but why would you have a completely different version just for single player derbys? Single player should still have live newspapers and some online features but no derby or neighborhoods. And to convert farms, they would have to mess with the player database and have a unique code for every player that can only be used once to convert their farm to hay day solo. Otherwise, great concept!

Remember also that the DD is shown to you by level, so that lower level farmers get editions with other lower level farms, and these farmers are selling lots of butter, cheeses, sugars and even EMs, because that's all they can make or hold. :)

First of all, thank you to the OP for starting the thread and walking us down memory lane.

I feel that I'm blessed because I started playing in June 2014 which was several months after the neighborhood was introduced. I know I wouldn't have enjoyed the game as much if neighborhoods didn't exist.

Prior to playing HD, I was playing Clash and appreciated the generosity from my clanmates and reciprocated. I was hoping players in the neighborhoods I joined would be just as generous and I wasn't disappointed.

BTW, the "good ole days" I missed is Tireless Tom bringing me items without doing a celebratory dance at the end. ;)
