Another name for this thread might be 'Trap bases don't work as well, now that there's a Freeze spell'

Eric, good question- before Freeze spells I ran across bases like this pretty frequently. Most often, I'd pass, because the offer was too low and the risk/reward was just not there just in case something went wrong (or to justify troop costs). Most of the bases I saw like that were offers of 1-2 cups for a win, and minus 38-39 for a loss. Just not worth it.
Every now and then though, I ran across better offers. I'd say I probably attacked 30 bases like this prior to the Freeze spell- and I was successful on all but one. The one loss, when I looked back, had managed to put EVERY SINGLE DEFENSIVE TOWER within range of the gap, which was just a couple of spaces from the Town Hall, with no wall in between. I blindly attacked, without looking more closely and realizing that an attack from a standard angle would've likely been an easier win than most. But, in that case, I fell for the 'bait.' Props to him for the setup (I don't recall his name). :)
Efficiency of a base design like that also depends upon where the gap is. If there's a wall separating the gap and the Town Hall, it's going to be much more difficult to destroy the Town Hall in time- but then fewer players will likely fall for it...

I love finding bases with holes in them. Some perhaps intentionally, others by accident.
Funnily enough I accidentally clicked on a hole in a base the other day when going to re-size the screen and dropped one archer in - boom there goes a giant bomb. What a waste of money for that guy. :p
