A little "love" for the town, please!

I'm reviving this thread in the spirit of Perky's request for suggestions for Hay Day's creative team. We had some good ideas going when the thread was started over a year ago. Even if the team didn't choose to use our ideas, I feel that the support for this thread indicated that there was significant interest in having town further developed in some meaningful way.

Historical context: This thread was introduced not long after the Derby (which was not requested..."Hey, SC, can you inject some serious competition in our happy farming game? We're getting bored with being friendly and cooperative and want something to fight about!") arrived and all creative resources were being directed toward "improving" the Derby. Derby was introduced in the big spring 2015 update, the summer update that had appeared before this thread was devoted to the Derby, and the fall update that came a couple of months later was also heavy on Derby. As I recollect, it was when the Leagues were introduced. Other than a new townie Derby task, absolutely nothing new has happened in town since this thread was originally started.

Personally, I still love my town even if I don't appreciate the weirdness of the visitors. I still feel that the way forward is through new ways to interact with town, not just more shops, visitors and land. The rest of the post is what I wrote originally. Items in red have been added in 2016.

I still feel like the town could benefit from some additional features and incentives to "visit". Since it was introduced (before my time on the farm, so I'm guessing) there have been only two productive things to do there: sell to townies and check the treasure chest. Yes, new shops get introduced, you can upgrade assorted things, provide your neighbors with visitors for their PTs, and you can decorate. However, there are a lot of farms I see when visiting through the DD who have fantastically elaborate, high level farms and "scorched earth" towns.

When the Derby was introduced, there was a flurry of interest in upgrading town shops and trains because the town visitor tasks were so attractive. At this point, that interest has fallen off. Right now, I'm "neglecting" my town in favor of filling boats for the current event and doing a "truck" Derby task. Yes, I'm doing exactly what the game intends which is managing my resources. However, I would like to see features in town that encourage me to be active there even if I'm not serving townies. Even if they are just an excuse to check in once a day, that would be nice. A new shop would, of course, be nice; but that wouldn't really add anything fundamentally different. There have been a variety of suggestions, some fairly frequent. Here are some I have made in the past, please chime in with others you may have made...or new ones!

• fishing pier (another fishing location with different fish)
• something like the WoF that can be "played" once a day (my thought is a wishing well or fountain that you toss a coin in and it produces a prize daily)
• town-specific pets (a koi pond, aviary)
• Derby task: serve a particular number of visitors in a particular building (for example, 12 people in the gift shop)
• produce stand: a "shop" that only sells crops
• becjam suggested a stall like Greg's that sells stuff to us once a day
• Mcl659 suggested a NH trading stall (I know we just got the trading feature at the farm, but I think there is still room for something different here)
• kwixi suggested exotic animals in some form and activity on the beach

Youve certainly described my style there! Decorated farm which gets my attention, town which has the buildings just shoved around the edge for no other purpose than to make it easy to see who is standing outside a building. IVe only opened two pieces of land in the town, only made it to level 14. Ive not fully expanded my buildings, my main train has only been upgraded once.....I remember when it was introduced, it was so exciting and I was looking forward to opening land, decorating and making my town match my farm. My enthusiasm waned very quickly because I got bored with it. I can go a fortnight and realise ive not been in my town in all that time and my thoughts only go back to town when I get the 'barn full' notification - my town is basically just a way to offload my barn...when I remember it.... So yes I certainly could do with some incentive and enthusiasm for my town once more!

Melly, thanks so much for your post! Your situation is exactly what I was picturing...farmers who are active but do not find town engaging. I also agree with your statement that town is a place to offload products in a useful manner when you get the "barn full" notice.

I think the Town has definitely become a Hay Day stepchild. There is no room to really expand, and you get all the buildings early on. Nothing really exciting happens after that. There are enough other demands on our attention, like the Derby and global events that it is easy to neglect the Town. I love my Town, and I would love to see an update that focuses on the Town. More land, new buildings, and decorations specific to the Town.

I once made a suggestion that it would be nice to see a little cwa stall in the town similar to greg, but it sells finished product like cakes, pies, sandwiches, candles etc at a lower price with 6 products a day.
That would encourage ppl to go to their town once a day but my idea didnt get much love except for someone to say as long as it was loaded with everything.

And for the sake of your players please add a ✨300+ pts townie serving task✨ (May be for 30 townies?)

I loved the town and all i did was town with a few exceptions. I worked hard to upgrade my buildings. Now that the derby is introduced, the town has become a disadvantage. I need to help with my nh mates' boats, trucks and stuff (i'm one of the leaders so i need to help with all boat tasks, all last minute truck tasks, all mining tools. imagine that!) and i even did a boat task this derby myself. So no room for feeding my townies!

Keep it at 305-310 range so your big spenders will keep speeding up boats if they want to complete that 320 pts boat task. But its such a shame that after all the effort we put in town we get a 281 pts task. Even wheating or collecting eggs gives you better points!

I loved the town event personally. And please take your players' ideas into account with the derby as well.

Madeleine, your experience with helping others with Derby tasks (and doing your own) is exactly what prompted me to start this thread. Recently, I've found myself doing things around the farm that were "chores"--things I didn't really want to do--rather than actually managing my farm to make everything run smoothly. Between Derby tasks that require the resources I would have used for townies and events overlapping with Derby tasks, my town gets neglected; and I am one farmer who likes filling townie orders WAY more than boats and trucks.

I agree that there should be a 300+ point task for the town. Maybe it needs to be for a huge number of townies so that it is a real feat to "stack" them all. Maybe it's for serving only one shop--serve 15 visitors in the B&B. Somehow there must be something Derby related that can draw more attention to town.

I think serving *any* 30 townies for 300+ points is quite fair without any other specifications. We worked on our personal trains to pick multiple passengers so why wouldn't we be rewarded in return? Town is not as easy as it looks. You need to collect a lot of metal bars for the trains and most townies ask for candy machine goods, pillows and blankets. Plus you cannot turn them away so easily as you need to wait hours till you can pick up new ones :)

I do not have the town activated yet, but I am in favor of any derby task being over 300 pts and of any derby task with "until derby ends" setting.

I like the idea of a wishing fountain, and the town would be the perfect place for it.

I like these ideas. Here's some more.
I see numerous posts asking for NH slots in RSS. Why not have a NH shop in the town. Also perhaps have a tab to "Like" your town similar to "like" farm.

I don't neglect my town, ( although I don't work it to its max, and I do keep a lot of actresses and cowboys wandering around until I feel like serving them ), but love all these ideas for giving more reasons to go there, especially ' town specific ' pets. When someone else suggested a safari park or zoo, I thought it would be a great idea to have, for instance, elephants, chimps, giraffes, , Dolphins, kept in the town but in the same way that we keep the pets on the farm, ie roaming around, rather than as caged animals. ( I am picturing the designers and animators having a lot of fun with creating different antics for the animals).
boat trips from the beach would be good too. Slightly off topic I know, but is it just me, or does anyone else get annoyed with the townies ?... I've made them a lovely beach, but they never SIT on it! Just walk around a bit and go back to town to stuff themselves on cream cakes!

We need a town task worth over 300. Town will not be valued enough until we get that high scoring task. Catering to townies is my favorite pastime but I'm not encouragd to do so when other tasks are worth more. Please make a town task over 300!!!

I have suggested this in the main thread (I think) but I would like to see a carnival in town with rides for visitors like a ferris wheel and roller coaster and a Midway.

Or a midway of games which gives US a prize once per day. Tap the game and play some kind of matching game or something.

Edit: Ooooh... a town full of stuffed animals!

At least do something with the beach and finally make that pier.... :)

I love my town,, it gives you lots of tools and help you level up very fast,, I suggested for the town to be able to flag like we do with boats so people will actually visit your town or they own one,, the flag can be a different shape or color to distinguish from the other.
Another idea can be having a avatar or our own person and become the visitor, we could get in our train visit a neighbors town get in a shop and order something, with a set up number of items not a crazy list lol,,

The beach area could offer a resort with a ship that is a large shop with multiple mini shops inside (Photo Studio, Florist, etc). Beach volley ball with 2 teams, one the farm owner, the other a hood member's team. Randomly generated winner gets all the exp, coins, etc. A beach concession stand serving hot dogs, ice cream, etc. A resort hotel, helicopter rides, surfboard rentals, the list goes on and on. So much potential in the town and beach area.

Now I want a beach vacation! :)

I like my town too but I would love to do more with it.
I like the idea of a pier with a Ferris wheel or carousel at the end. Maybe some carnival food outlets to sell our popcorn, hotdogs, ice creams etc
Also more town/beach specific decorations that you don't use on the farm. Colourful beach huts, a children's playground or waterslide, some palm trees perhaps?
I know some of these ideas have been mentioned on the forum before but I think they are worth revisiting :)

I would love it if I could take my train and visit more than one neigbour at the time to pick up visitors. And return when train is full or if you have the visitors you want (visitors task)

This is a popular idea, but I don't think people would like it if it was implemented.

My personal train can pick up 10 people every 90 minutes. If I could go from town to town until it was full, I would get the lion's share of available visitors, leaving few (if any) for everyone else.

I love the town, really want it to get some attention.

I wish when we used the personal train a small number would appear near each member name to let us know how many visitors can be picked up.

Having a big personal train feels like a curse at times, on several occasions I have had to visit 10+ towns to get the magical 10 townies to pick up.

I would like a new shop too, a green grocer; where townies want silo items ONLY.
