Maxed out TH8 having a hard time in clan wars..

Hey there guys, As you might have noticed from the topic title that im actually SUCKING in every kind of attack strategy in clan wars. Kinda' shameful for a max th8 who can't even attack right..I've reached 370+ war stars, well actually the main were the 300 stars which i got when i was a TH7 but right after my journey in TH8 i embarrass my clan mates every time. Not to mention they are trying to help me alot instead of scolding, which im thankful for..

I've tried gowipe, fail everytime, either 2 star or no star. Mass hogs; 1-2 stars and usually no star. Why? no idea... springs take out many of my hogs.. then dgp ruin the whole raid.. try mass drags 1-2 star again. WHAT DO I DO...

I would be VERY thankful if any one of you would help me in this moment.


P.S: I've seen countless amounts of videos, including JTJ's universitie's dragons guide, OneHive TH8 raids.. clash of clans 3 star clanwars channels but none seem to work for me... Is there any one main army which is a guranteed 3 star?

There are no guaranteed 3 star attacks really against other TH8 players unless you've properly assessed the base you intend to attack & have build an army to match it.
What kind of attacks have you been using? Is it a matter of poor execution on your part or have you been using the wrong types of armies for different bases? What level are your troops? what's your typical attack style/spells/cc troops? More information will help us see where your're coming from & where you need to be.
Does your clan discuss strategy during war prep time?

TH 8 attacks always depend upon layout.

If there is no chance for DGB, hogs are usually the best bet, if they have DGB spots and you can funnel your dragons into the AD's properly that is best strat, if the have highly exposed AD's, best bet is Dragho, a few troops to draw and kill their CC, then just enough hogs and heal spells to take their exposed ADs (usually 8-10 hogs plus 5 in your CC) and either 3 heals or 2 heals and a rage.

Gowipe is more of a 2-star strat, if you do use gowipe, best CC troops are two witches, turning it into a gowiwi or a gowiwipe. Sometimes not using Pekkas is better.

I'm also using GoWiVA with CC witches atm & it's working well agaisnt TH8 opponents. Particularly the more open/low comparment bases.

I'm using mass hogs occasionly with some cleanup wiz, i do lure. My troops are maxed out for a th8 (lvl4 hogs, lvl3 pekka, lvl2 golem etc)

obviously i use 3 heals for mass hogs. For drags i use 2 rage and 1 heal but its rarely a 3 star..

the bases i come up to are usually popular YT bases. Even though i know the trap locations i still dont get how i lose my hogs, my heals are in time too..

2R1H is not nearly as effective of a strategy on most bases as 3 lightning on an AD.. 3 lightning reducing it to two ADs reduces damage a lot more than rages and heals save damage because you have to factor in the fact that the third AD is hitting you for a long time rather than being dead to begin with. Every time our clan gets a three star on a decent TH8 with dragloon, it's always lightning.

I totally understand that, there simply aren't enough attacks to use and they aren't exactly easy. I got out of my slump with hogs, 22 arch, 2 wiz, bk, rest hogs ( with hogs in cc ) if there is a spot where you can trigger a dbl bomb, do it, but if there is probably a dbl bomb in the mid then it's not a hog raid. Basically what I do is see if there are any big bombs I can set off, I do that, draw cc, then place hogs wherever you drew the cc because then your clean up troops won't be shot. The goal is to keep as many hogs alive as possible, they are your strongest clean up... Please try this and tell me how it goes!

I believe i wasted enough attacks testing out different strategies and don't want to risk it out more. But for the sake of attacking again and findgout the cons in my attacks i'mma do it. Will let you know.

Yeah, I remember that point in time when nothing made sense and every attack seemed doomed to fail.

Some bases just make some attacks tough. Maybe what you lack is more in depth knowledge of base designs, on how they affect your attacks.

Unluckily guides focus way too much on attack strategies. "Look at this powerful 3 star attack!" they say, but the attack is only as good as the base allows it to be.

So my recommendation would be to start paying more attention to the base you are attacking. Do not just try to mimic an attack you saw in some youtube video. It's your attack, you need to make the decisions about what troops to take and how to approach the base. Carefully observe the base and try to imagine how the attack will go.

The only way to learn is to keep going at it and don't just give up. Each fail is a lesson you can learn. Look at the replay closely, get a feel for what went wrong, what didn't go as you expected. Try something slightly different next time. Or choose a different attack for those kinds of bases.

It's not something that can be learned quickly/easily. It's not even something that's logical or can be explained. It only comes with enough time, experience, practice and simply confidence in your own skills.

Now, something that you could do to accelerate the process is to share the replays (either in your clan or via recording videos) and get mentoring from someone more experienced than you (in your clan or in forums).
