They did this so your only intention when donating is for the win. Not to up your stats or gain gems from achievements. They knew if they did that, there'd be plenty of trolls offering up Giants just to up their stats. Especially now that troops can just be dumped, you can easily donate, dump, donate, dump, donate, dump, to get all of your clan mates to max this stat/achievement for easy gems.
Weird that just because a statistic exists, people just want to have the highest number in that stat slot regardless of benefit or rewards.... this will change the reasons for donation from winning the war to getting a statistical achievement...

*Have clan war troop donations count towards donation statistics

I was in favor of this until i realized that fact.. poor stupid me :P
War donations should get recognition, but not via XP as previously stated.
Instead it should show a log of who donated what, that way leaders know who is doing the heavy lifting; or alternatively donating dud troops.
Critical information in knowing which members are worthy of promotion, or demotion.
Simple enough solution that should make it not "ruled out":
Only make the donations count once battle day has begun, and then only if the donations weren't removed/deleted. In other words:
Player A donates 4 giants to player B's war clan castle (20 friend in need achievement pending)
Player B removes the 4 giants (0 friend in need achievement pending)
Player A donates 4 wizards to player B's war clan castle (16 friend in need achievement pending)
Battle Day begins
Player A is awarded experience and their pending 16 friend in need achievement is released and added to their profile statistics.
They should already be tracking who donates what anyways (so we can hopefully have a (co-)leader log of donations someday, this just takes all that information and puts it to additional use.
Before you judge: Do I think getting the achievements is good and the gems that come with it... YES! but the experience points... NO! mainly because I'm lv 95 but I should be about level 85
This one statistic makes my level irrelevant to how strong I actually am. And level COULD AND SHOULD have been used to better match wars.
but; I don't think the developers want us to be able to define who has the advantage. Although if you study or scout the stats you can find out quite easily.
But at this point I ,being the leader of my clan, would be like level 110 at least. Which makes me wonder, why. do we have levels in the first place if they are in fact irrelevant? :/
