Max TH8 but a noob CW attacker...please help!

Hi! After spending a couple of weeks sucking at GoWiPe, heart-wrenching HOG fails, and frustrating attempts to learn these strategies while farming too, I seek your expert advise on Mass Hogs attack.
My Hogs are lv4, max at TH8 and my spells are all lv5. In my countless failed Hogs attack, the primary hurdles I've faced (and failed to overcome) are:
1. B.King...he just follows my Hogs around the base and decimates them before all the defense is cleared, making it impossible for my clean-up troops (BK and couple of Wiz) to finish. Luring cc troops out with 1-2 Hogs depending on the enemy base layout and then spending BARCH and few Wiz to kill...leaves me with no time to lure/distract BK and the results are devastating FAILS.
2. Spells - 3 lv5 Heals...no problems dropping them strategically over DGB or single GB points, but the HOGS just are hellbent on splitting up. Consequently, I end up prioritising which group to use the spells on (Group with most Hogs after split, or Group attacking crucial defense structures). But hurdle no.1 just creeps up again.
I've hunted the foruum thread and perhaps was looking at the wrong places but just couldn't find a thread specifically answering my doubts.
P.S: I don't even wanna entertain the slightest hint of trying GoWiPe...yes, I suck at it, but the PEKKA is just ridiculously allergic to the core regardless of how cleanly I wipe the buildings outside the walls. So kindly help me with the MASS HOGS strategy only.

Hog rider attacks are hard to use. Try mass Dragon attacks, they're cheaper than Mass hogs. 10 lvl3 dragons placed skillfully can 3 star most th8 bases.

Just leave the tough bases to the th9s in your clan, :P

1. Do not listen to that...as a maxed TH8 u will be matched against maxed TH8 and Mass Dragons sucks against them. It is possible to 3 star with Dragloon but your best option is the hogs.

2. Watch videos of hog attacks and GoHo (Golem + Hogs). I particularly like very much the OneHive Raids channel on youtube. Jake doing his best to make us suck less...

3. Two finger deployment seems to make a huge difference on the final result of hog attacks for me. It means, deployng two columns of hogs simoultaneously.

4. On a Mass Hog atack u should take a maximum of 32 hogs. Levaing U with 40 troops plus CC to deal with enemy CC and clean up. Besides, a well executed hog attack will leave at least 6 hogs alive after destroying all weapons, which means your clean up problem is coming from an execution problem. Watch videos about destroying enemy CC to learn how to save troops. Basically u should use archers to make enemy troops walk back and forth untill they bunch up, place a decoy and them use the splash damage of your mages to take them all at once. If it is a dragon...do not deploy a troop at a time, surround it with some troops.

5. Use your heals wisely, deploying it too early or too late will ruin your attack.

on hogs you're gonna scout the pathing pretty well - try to destroy defenses that breaks your hogs path earlier (or possible while luring cc!)

you can also do a GoHo attack with a golem kill squad in before hand to kill CC, nullify a DGB spot or in this case, kill the king followed by hogs.

Thank you for reviewing my post and sharing, but I'm afraid MASS DRAGS are way past its ability (& chances) to achieve 2-3 stars for a Mid-to-Late TH8.
I always advise fellow TH8 clanmates to try other attack strategies before they reach that "max" level so that they will find it easier when it's time to use it. Likewise, I'd discourage you from adhering to MASS DRAGS for too long, or being too dependent on it. 👍

I couldn't agree more...Mid-to-Late TH8 levels cannot be mass Dragged for a successful 2-3 stars.
I am an ardent OneHive fan too, cheers! Sadly though, I am yet to watch their Hog tutorials..been a while since I YouTubed. Nonetheless, thank you so much for the detailed review and suggestions. Keep up the good work 👍..see ya around!

Before Air Sweeper Update: Was when I was upper th8 done w my splash towers working on ATs and Teslas.......this strategy 3 starred pretty much every TH8 that wasn't anti Dragon and total AD level is 15 or less unless they are poorly placed....,..

CC: 5x Loons l6 (2nd choice 1x Dragon L3 + 1x Loon l5)
Spells: 3x Rage l5 (most prefer 2x Rage and 1x Heal, I just rushed to take down the air defs and they were fine.,,,,


After the Sweeper Update I had to switch styles to GoWiPe, I usually take a Pekka in my CC instead of wiz so 3 total Pekkas, seems to help block the wiz later on.,.....my actual army was 2x Golenl2, 2x Pekkal2-3 8x WBs L5 and the rest Wiz l5....,,,

I'm sure mass hogsl4 will def be better on bases with no hog ring, I have never tried, heard l4 works but l5 works way better esp since you will have 4x spells instead of 3.......

I'm also wondering if any attacks are better than GoWiPe, whoch seems to be the default at the higher stages of TH8 esp w max troops.

For those of you who aren't quote maxed deciding on Golem vs Pekka what to upgrade first I would say Pekka2, theb Golem2, theb Pekka3. Noticed a huge improvement w Golen2s

PS: it's hilarious getting attacked in war by mass hogs, my base is anti Dragon anti Loon anti Hog, it's so funny to see all but 3 hogs die instantly when they trigger my double giant bombs, there are so maby possible spots my DGb can be but they usually hit them at the beginning it's hilarious, that's why surgical hogs are more popular now........

I've recently just started getting the hang of hog attacks. Like you I used to suck at them, hogs splitting up... heals not being used effectively enough etc most of the time they'd die with a couple defenses left making it hard for my king and wizards to clean up.


The main thing you'll need to work on is taking time to scout the base before hand. If there's lots of potential gb locations it might be best waiting till someone else attacks it and reveals them for you. The best bases are the ones with limited spaces between defenses.

You'll need to have a good idea of where the hogs will path too depending where you place them. Ideally you'll put your hogs on a defense where there's only 1 route they'll go to.

Heal spells need to be planned as well. I used to hesititate and heal on the fly which used to cost me a lot of hogs. Use those heals early on. Place them in the centre of a group of defenses to get the most out of them. As soon as the hogs move on place the other heal in a group of defenses ahead of the hogs. Effectively using heals will keep your hogs alive. once the base is 70% clear of defences and you have a good amount of hogs left you'll know the battle is won.


Army Composition: I take 28 hogs, 2 giants, 7 wiz, 3 barbs and rest archers. The giants come in handy tanking for your initial hog deployment and can help with the cc lure as well. The wizards, barbs and archers will be used for cc kill/cleanup. As for what cc troops to bring I go for either lvl 4/5 hogs or wizards and archers for clean up.
