If you have a small group of friends and just want to put 5 players in wars then maybe add 5 person wars and would make it interesting.

Not a bad idea. Maybe you could make it like a half war: half the time, half the people, half the exp. That way you can't earn exp any faster than normal. As someone else said, you will have to add a tie breaker to the wars. Possibly make the clan with fewer attacks win?
