What can I do to prevent my troops from going abroad during an attack at war?

Hello guys! There is something that I noticed about my troops during an attack at war. I kind of imagine what my troops will do once I have set off the attack, so I expect at least some intentions of keeping together. But once I start the attack and when we are getting into the enemy's base, my troops just go wandering about in different directions and I ended up doing not enough damage to be rewarded with a star. I am like very dissappointed due to the fact that my game seems to be getting worse and worse instead of improving. By the way, I must mention that what I plan or want my troops to do or how to behave, are always things that I have seen them previoously done in other wars. I mean, is not like I am dreaming or expecting for my troops too much. The other thing is that I have been playing more than a year and have full maxed out troops. I thought that once I was at this level, I was going to stay in a War Clan and attack mostly at war since the game itself has a much slower pace compared to when the TH is 7 or 8.  I thank you in advance for any positive feedback and asure you that I will try all of your recommendations to the nitty gritty. Put it this way, I am so disappointed and embarrassed at this that I am considering staying out of any clan activity. After playing so much and so long and having the best troops, I feel as if I had the most weak and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ed troops. So, I really appreciated very much if you provide me with your best tips.
